Happy Memorial Weekend Posbang!!

Submitted by UM Griff on
Having insomnia, so I thought I would get the party started! My family is at the cottage on Lake Michigan for the weekend - lots of barbecuing, card games, and catching the Indy 500. What will you be doing to kick off summer? Wishing all my MGoFriends a safe and happy Memorial Weekend!

Happy Friday and the unofficial start of summer.

Not sure on the exact plans, but my weekend will involve some Founders Doom at one point or another. That is enough to get me excited.

I also plan to take some time to remember those that gave their lives for our country.

I'll be watching the Indy 500 too.

As a kid, I thought the Johnny Lightning Special was the coolest thing that ever existed.

Ms. EM committed me to chauffeur 8 +/- middle school Girl Scouts and pilot a pontoon boat with said Girl Scouts and a couple of other adults tomorrow.  A/k/a one of the busiest boating days of the year.  She had the sense to ask me to do so a few weeks ago ("the troop leader has never driven a boat"), when the prospect of it actually happening seemed dim. Damn you, moment of weakness!

Last time I drove a pontoon boat?  Two years ago.  Thoughts and prayers for the dock and the pontoons are appreciated.  Local beer sales will skyrocket once I get back home tomorrow night.

Bang me.

Mrs. X: There's a baby. It's at the hospital.
Mary X: Mom!
Mrs. X: And you're the father.
Henry: Well that's impossible! It's only been...
Mary X: Mother, they're still not sure it is a baby!

Mary X: You wouldn't mind marrying me, would you Henry?
Henry: Well... No.

Such great memories!

A mile from the Canadian border in Sault Ste Marie (MI), having spent the last few days here on work assignment. My weekend begins today! I do have plans later this Decoration Day weekend to visit and decorate the gravesites of my Grandpa (Veteran of The Great War) and 3 uncles (WWII and Korea), all of whom served and were fortunate enough to return and tell about it. Flags and flowers and a moment in remembrance to honor them...

If you've not done it before, try to make time to cross the International Bridge and explore a bit of SSM, Ontario.  I lived in SSM, MI for a summer, and it took me a month to realize that the Canadian side is absolutely gorgeous, just about two miles inland from the St. Mary's River.

God's Country, that.

Clyde's Drive-in, right? I passed up on Clyde's a few days ago when over by the Sugar Island Ferry, then heard from a local the food is pretty good for a little place that looks like a dive.

for over 50 years.  Cottage is on Sugar Island so we would pass Clydes on an almost daily basis.

We also used to drive our boat to the island rotary park there when younger every saturday for the month of August.

It's your typical greasy spoon, but the onion rings & shakes in particular are good.

My dad used to take us fishing on Sugar Island when we were in grade school. We got bored but what I wouldn't give to have him back to do it again. I don't remember seeing any others on the island once we got off the ferry.

Just flew in from Phoenix after having spent the week at a conference. I could have flown back today, but it's good to have those extra hours at home with my family. Man Gen (Ret.) Vincent Boles gave the conference keynote. He concluded with a reminder that Memorial Day is a good time to be grateful for the men and women who sacrificed because they thought our freedom was worth it.

Work day vs. planned PTO day. Ugh. Subbing in for colleague who is in Germany. Yard work tomorrow. Ugh. Lawn looks pimpin' before days of heat and humidity roll in. Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR on Sunday. Tailgate starts at 8:00 am. Leave track about 11:00 pm A long day of beer drinking, BBQ and watching cars go fast and turn left. Hoping no rain ! Monday ... recovery. Tuesday. Work. Ugh. Did I have a weekend?

I do plan on having fun and enjoying our freedoms this weekend (leaving work early, family, friends, food, etc) and am grateful for those who paid for that freedom with all they had.

Why does the battery run low only at like 4:00 AM??

And when exactly did we run out of 9V batteries!?

Great way to start off the weekend....good morning, everyone!

Heading to Chicago for the weekend for the food and the sights. It'll be my daughter's first trip so we'll be doing the tourist stuff.

A bit different than when I lived on the North Side post college.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to you all...

I am actualy currently at work, but only for a couple hours to take care of some items and be on one hopefully brief conference call. After that's all finished, it is off to get some wine and supplies, off to get my new glasses and then off through Tuesday. Although I always tell people I am available by phone, that doesn't always mean I answer it right away....or indeed at all depending on who it is.

Hoping to have a nice, relaxing extended weekend.

Wife is a teacher, and her last day with the students is today. Celebrating tonight with a bottle or two of wine, driving down to FL over the weekend to see the family for a couple of days, and then off to Europe for two weeks for our honeymoon. Next Wednesday can't get here soon enough!

Not just any long weekend it's Memorial weekend. I will make mention of the hero's who fought and died in wars at the dinner tables grace tonight in part so we could enjoy these weekend postbangs but mainly our way of life. God bless all our heros and their families who sacraficed more than I would dare to imagine.

because my wife got elected to the school board in April, so she has to spend Sunday handing out diplomas at 3 high school graduation ceremonies.  I had enough trouble sitting through my son and daughter's ceremonies, let alone three long ceremonies, given there are roughly 1000 students in each graduating class.  Gives me time to watch the Indy 500 in peace, but I'd rather be at the lake house for the weekend.

I need a bang.  Missing my chance to hang at the beach, pull the boat out of the garage, and get things running for the summer season.  I can always drink beer here instead of there!

I have no formal plans for the weekend but may step away from the computer early after my 130 call with the boss. Honestly, I just want to sit outside on my new deck and watch the world go by...
