Hanging Onto Brandon Gives Michigan the Best Chance At Harbaugh For Next Season--Sam Webb

The gist is that it would take too long to fire Brandon, bring in a new AD, and then hire a new football coach.  So if we want a chance Harbaugh next season, we should want Brandon to remain AD at least through the football coach hiring process.

Incorrect.  He said won't come "from the current administration" not won't "come here under" the current administration.  Do you understand the difference?  If not, I can't help you.

You sir, are the source of misinformation.  As I continue to point out.

Stop misquoting others to further your agenda!  It does not display integrity that is expected of Michigan students/alumni.

I know you didn't respond to me, but I am a little bit on his side here.

I've grown a little more skeptical of Bacon over the past few weeks.  He obviously doesn't like Brandon, he wants to please Michigan people, and right after the Brandon protest he goes on the radio and basically says Brandon will be fired and a Harbaugh is going to be our coach next year.

Talk about saying something everybody wants to hear.

This post by Sam Webb seems to be more of him hedging his bet than anything.  He probably knows more than anyone if the AD is pushing for Harbaugh, but it seems like if Brandon were going to be fired he would be by now, so he is just riding that train.

From everything we have heard about how Brandon and Jim Harbaugh feel about each other, this claim makes no sense.

Agree.  Also telling is the fact that Bacon did not speak out during stretchgate.  Yes, stretchgate seemed to many, including me, like a jihad.  But this doesn't hide the fact that the football program received its first ever sanctions.  The fact that Bacon kept quiet then, and is now leading the charge, to me is very telling, given that Bacon basically had an all access pass during RR's tenure, and no press pass under Brandon's.

Are you saying that Bacon said nothing, to anyone, about Stretchgate (in which case you need some evidence), or that you don't know of anything Bacon said to anyone about Stretchgate (in which your statement is about what you know, and not about what Bacon may or may not have said)?

That you don't know of anything Bacon may have said isn't very telling at all, except in your own mind.  It strikes me as selecting information to support an a priori position.

Alright, if we want to talk out about mischaracterizations... What Bacon said was more along the lines of "based on what I'm hearing, I expect Brandon will be fired." He also gave his best estimate at who would coach Michigan next year and guessed a Harbaugh. He never intimated certainty. The man just said what he'd been hearing and spoke from his gut about the implications of that information.

"...it seems like if Brandon were going to be fired he would be by now..."

...quote/viewpoint is Schlissel; the man has been in place as President since June (iirc), and he is obviously trying not to be perceived as a hasty decision-maker, which could affect the rest of his tenure as President.  Say what you will about the effect of the deliberate process he's undertaken as it relates to the concept and timing of a coaching search, but I don't think Sam can rest his laurels on the idea that Brandon is staying based on the simple fact that Schlissel is being deliberative.

Eh is anyone really complaining about a shortened Brandon tenure? But yeah meh all this speculation is driving me crazy...

Kinda wish our FOOTBALL TEAM didn't have to blow the season 2 weeks in -__-

I've had the feeling for a while that Webb is in the Brandon corner and blind to reason. Just from the way he's reported everything from the past few months, seems like he's put a little bit of spin on each story.

Because it's Michigan Fergodsakes.

I think the more telling question is why Wouldn't  JH want to work for DB.  We already know why he would want to come here.  It's Michigan - an institution that shaped and molded him into the man he is today. That supercedes in many respects the prospect of who your boss "in name" would be.

Realize how powerful DB is and how much he actually does for the University - team 135 does not define his tenure and he will definitely be given another chance to turn things around with 136.

New buildings are great (those would come with or without DB) but in the end not a lot of people care about lacrosse. I'm really happy we have all these varsity sports but if football suffers it's not worth it. They all die if football dies. Period. Feed your Eagles... In this case, wolverines.

I doubt you know that. You may believe it. But I am more inclined to believe the leadership of the university is much more upset with Brandon than hoke. Heck, one could argue that hoke shouldn't go anywhere until he's had a chance to coach the team without db meddling.

But it definitelty isn't the same if he can't get Greg Roman and Vic Fangio to come with him.

He's got two GREAT coordinators and had another in Shaw.

I worry just a touch about Harbaugh without his coordinators. Still want him, still an obvious upgrade...but it definitely makes you think.

At one point Les Miles has Jimbo Fisher and Bo Pelini as his coordinators...then he got John Chavis. IMO, that's been a huge reason he's continued to be successful.

No doubt Harbaugh couldn't attract top coordinators if Roman and/or Fangio didn't come, but I'd be just a liiiiiiiiittle worried. Those have been "his guys" for quite some time.

Per Sam's twitter it seems like his argument that to clean house is unlikely in one move. This defintly seems to contradict everything we've been hearing the past month. If I wans't so lazy I'd love to look up times where both the AD and Head Coach (Football or Basketball) have switched within 12 months of another.

Brandon finally pulled out the pictures he has on Webb!  Not worth listening to anything Mr. Webb says until Brandon is gone.

Can you imagine the hit to Webb's credibility if Brandon is gone and Jim Harbaugh comes here?  Or what if Brandon is still here and Jim Harbaugh goes to Kansas??  Those who will remember will never respect Webb's gut ever again.
