Gus Johnson "Back to School" show

I hope you guys were able to watch the "Back to School" show with Gus Johnson. Or rather about Gus Johnson. There is so much I didn't know about that man. They featured a game at Michigan and I almost cried with his words. I was never a Gus Johnson fan before this because I didn't understand lots of things including the "world famous" Ohio state phrase. But that is an ode to a very famous Olympic athlete that you all know or have heard about. Jesse Johnson. It has nothing to do with things currently. I hope you had the opportunity to watch it.

Gus Johnson is one of those guys where you could listen to his calls forever.

In games that your team wins.

In games that they lose…..you’re not sure you ever want to listen to it again. Gus had plenty of calls in the 2021 MSU game that I think I’d cringe and shrivel up if I ever had to listen to them again. Not his fault, but with the energy and passion he brings to the calls, it’s equally as deflating when you’re on the wrong end of it.

Its like how I’m sure USC fans feel whenever they hear “4th and 5 the national championship on the line” from Keith Jackson. It’s euphoric for Texas fans, and hell-inducing for USC fans.

My great uncle competed against Jesse during his record breaking day at the BTC. I’ve heard the stories from someone who was there, and his brother, my grandpa. I still don’t know what the “World Famous” refers to but I’m guessing it has something to do with how famous Jesse was in his day setting records and showing up Hitler.

The Gus Johnson thing sounds interesting.

Glad more people know why he says this. Shouldn’t matter though, people should be better to not be Gus Johnson fans before they find this out. He’s human.

Gus Johnson does sports play-by-play for a living.

Broadcasting should be fun. It should be entertainment.

Gus Johnson is fun and entertaining.

Gus Johnson is good at sports play-by-play.

...it's really that simple for me. People who get pissed at "world famous" and the nicknames are taking something seriously that doesn't need to be taken seriously.

If you don't like it, the mute button was invented in 1956. Every TV has one.

Gus Johnson doing the news after a national tragedy, maybe that is not a good choice. Gus Johnson for a basketball or football game...the best.

As a second generation, very frequent user of the mute button. I am pleased to  learn a little of its history.

My Dad famously muted every commercial for a while growing up. But he would also sometimes walk to the kitchen to get a snack and forget to set the remote down. So we stayed on mute way longer than a commercial break and I would have to run in there and grab it.

Going 13-0 this fall was amazing, but the icing on that cake was having Gus and Joel on the call for the majority of those games. We were really spoiled to have Gus be essentially the voice of Michigan football in 2022.
