The group of players representing the United States in basketball in a highly competitive and close game in Gold Medal game

Submitted by mGrowOld on

Up only 3 with under 2 minutes to go in third with the refs blowing the whistle on seemingly every possession for both teams so anything is possible.

Kobe has to wondering where this version of Pau Gasol was hiding during the NBA season.

Edit: Title changed

Where is the fight? I didn't neg you though, because I only use the app and can't (and don't care) about points.

by Ewing and Robinson. Robinson would destroy them by himself. His speed, athleticism, and skill would have been too much for the Gasols. Now add the size of Bird, Malone, and Magic with the athleticism of Jordan andPippin, and I don't see anyway how Spain stays within 30. Too much size, speed, and skill.

In other words the talent differential does not matter for the Dream Team is still 1,000x more talented then the foreign teams of today.

Maybe, but remember that this year's team was supposed to have Dwight Howard (as well as Derrick Rose) on it.  With Howard, the frontcourt would have been a lot closer to the '92 group.

I don't think the Dream Team had an athletic edge over this team.  There were several guys on that team (Magic, Bird, Mullin, Barkley, Laettner) who basically couldn't play defense.  It didn't matter because their opposition stunk, but it'd be an issue now.

Well, since this team was supposed to have Dwight Howard.... ;)

I'll actually admit if Dwight was on the team, then I'd be willing do think about a discussion.  Howard, Bryant, James, and maybe Durant will end up being in the same league as Jordan, Malone, Barkley, Thomas, Bird, etc.  But 4 of those guys is not quite the dream team.

Good point.  Don't forget Wade, and Bosh too.  The roster should have been:

C - Howard

PF - Bosh

SF - James

SG - Bryant

PG - Rose

Bench:

C - Chandler

PF - Love

SF - Melo, Durant

SG - Wade

PG - Paul

I'm guessing the last spot would have either gone to Westbrook, or Williams.

The team that won Gold is no where near the same level as the Dream Team.  The line up that should have been, I can definitely see the arguement between who is better.

I wonder if they would have played a Spanish song if Spain had won.  Seems kinda weird to celebrate a team so much at the Olympics when it's not even in their home country.  Basketball's a different animal than gymnastics I guess.

song detailing effects of the Vietnam War on blue collar America. I believe a Republican used this same song as a theme song until Springsteen forbade him to do so. It would not have made sense for a politician of any stripe to use it because the song is not patriotic in the least. Apparently no one listens to the lyrics.

I DVR'd the game and didn't want to be spoiled, but now I know from your thread title that it was close.  Why did you do that?

When I DVR a game, I don't want to know anything about it.  I want to be surprised by what I see.  After Mgrowold blabbed that it was a tight game, then I knew that the first half of the game wasn't going to be decisive, and I ended up fast-forwarding a lot of it.

What makes this particularly annoying to me is that I wasn't even going to visit the board at all.  I briefly checked the front page and then I saw this thread's super-long title in the sidebar.  I get that Mgrowold despises LeBron and probably was geeked to see him in danger of losing, but that's no excuse.

I guess when I watch a game, I like to see how it happened, and how the game progressed to the end. Unless the us was blowing them out by 30 in the 1st half, it's not going to be decisive either way. If you just fast forwarded, you would've missed USA's fast start, then a run by Spain in the 2nd to come back. Also the terrible reffing that led to 22 fouls in 10 min, or how Marc gasol picked up 4 fouls so that's why you didn't see him for the most of the 2nd half. I guess I'm just trying to say knowing its close, doesn't tell the whole story.

Who would be so stupid to go on a sports blog while trying to not see a score? Ridiculous that he or she was then dumb enough to whine about the idiotic move. It would be similar to answering an officer, "yes I know why you pulled me over, must be the cocaine in my trunk."

I apologize if I ruined the fun of watching it but the reason I posted as I did was because if they did lose (and when I posted it was anything but a sure thing they wouldn't) I thought people might want to turn it on and watch.  Cause there would be no way that anybody would be able to avoid that news...especially on a Sunday!  I thought the rules on spoilers were different on weekends.

And no, I was not rooting against Lebron here.  For the first time since "The Decision" I cheered him....especially late in the game.  He was representing my country and I wanted him to do well.

The best part is that 80% of the people watching will be unaware of the irony inherent in playing 'Born in the USA' during the victory celebration of Team USA
