What I'm suggesting is exactly what I wrote. I'm not going to appreciate a guy whose defense gave up 31 to Notre Dame and 404 passing yards to Gary Nova because he was able to shut down a team with one of the worst offensive lines in the country. Rutgers gave up 13 to Penn State too.

We've been good defensively in pretty much all of our games besides Rutgers. It's hard to be stout when your offense sucks. Plus we get Peppers back in 2 weeks.

Penn State's OL is garbage and everyone knew that going in to this game. They still have trouble stopping 3rd downs and still give tons of cushion. I don't get it.

The best thing about the defense against PSU was they did not give up the big play. It's a lot harder to flip the field when you have to get 3 first downs in a row. IMO that was the key to the game.

I'll withhold any statements about Mattison's performance at Michigan for the sake of upholding the OP's intent. What I do hope is that last night's performance gives the defense confidence going forward.
