Is this the greatest Michigan team of our lifetimes?

I know I'm still feeling the "high" but I think the question has to be asked and my response would be "YES!".  As much as I LOVED the 97 team....they were primarily a generational talent in Charles Woodson and a strong supporting cast of the D Line and O Line.   This year's team was complementary in all three phases and there really are no "superstars".  It's a team of 11 guys in 3 phases who all work together and in each game they leaned on each phase differently.  My closing thought last night was:  We finished 15-0 and still never saw a COMPLETE game from this team for 60 minutes.  Think about how good they were to never have to play perfectly.....and still beat everyone.

For my money, Team 144 is the greatest Michigan team of the modern era.

PS - if anyone can reach D'Mello or any other video makers, I have wanted to use this song for hype videos but I lack the editing skills.  It fits our championship season and the JJ "crowning".

Yes. Full stop.

The ‘97 team, as great as it was, did not have to go through a big 10 championship game, and a two game playoff gauntlet against two of the four best teams in the country. They had Woodson, who is a generational talent, but that team was nowhere near complete as this one is.

The point a minute teams are probably the only other comparison, but if we’re going to be realistic here, they are dinosaurs. A relic from a game that has evolved and expanded 30 times over since then.

This is the best team Michigan has ever had, and its entire history. They are one of only four programs to have ever gone 15-0.

Alabama hasn’t done that. OSU hasn’t done that. Michigan is in elite company right now.

Yup, I was saying this last night. Also, it might be the greatest defensive football team of the modern era, period. There were better players on great defenses (how many guys went in the first round for Georgia?), but no one swarmed like this, no one was this relentless, no one played as such a cohesive unit as this defense.

I would like to see this 2023 team with Woodson on it.  He'd bump Will Johnson to CB2, add some dynamism/gadgetry to the offense, and handle punt/kick returns.  But that's just being greedy.
