Pretty please with sugar on top don’t turn this into a political dog fight.

Very cool gesture on her part.

I was going to say generous for a Sparty, but apparently her kids chose the correct school.

I do think the "Whereas" makes the line "Whereas Ohioans proudly sing a song called "We Don't Give A Damn For the Whole State of Michigan" but spend the vast majority of their time crossing out the letter M on campus and throughout the state." much funnier.

I voted for Whitmer and will again but this kind of stuff is just politically dumb. It won't win her a single vote in re-election and just provides her opponents with an easy opportunity to bash her over something that's ultimate completely irrelevant.

My problem is that this isn’t “free.”

I went to U of M and my wife’s entire family went to MSU. When Whitmer did the “rivalry” thing week, my first thought was “ how much did this cost taxpayers?”  The time, effort, resources.
I voted for her in the last election and say that only because I’m not complaining because she’s outside of my political interest.
But this stuff is dumb. We have people (in every single state) who have no food or shelter for Thanksgiving tomorrow.
More than zero dollars of resources went to do this. I don’t care if it was $50 or a couple grand, buy some people in need some warm jackets instead.

I would make the argument that engagement with constituents is an important part of government. That doesn't have to just be getting their input on bills; it can also be sharing a laugh on social media. In theory, these types of interactions make government officials appear more accessible, which may encourage voters in an indirect way to engage more with the civic process. You can argue that we should spend less on this engagement than basic needs (which I'm sure we do), but this is still a function of government and we should spend at least *some* money on it.

All I see is a tweet so overall, less time, effort, and resources than it took for you to complain about it.

Now, if you've found a way to convert a single tweet into a $50 warm jacket, I'd say you've solved a lot of problems.

If not, then please kindly shut the fuck up, because whining about the "government waste" of an effin' tweet is exactly the sort of disingenuous political crap OP begged us to avoid.

I’m surprised my response triggered such vitriol. I’m front line medical and handle the Covid cases for cancer patients. I’ve spent the last 20 months being understaffed and under supplied and am watching Covid cases start to rise again. I posted my comment while taking my one 4-minute break of the day.
I don’t really give a fuck about politics. I was posting some really superficial thoughts about it.
Like, the nightmares I have every night have nothing to do with government spending.

My super-strongly-felt comment is that I hope everyone wears their masks tomorrow, EVEN if they’re vaccinated.

A dude whose business acumen led to him selling branded steaks and meat out of an electronics/gadget store won the presidency by claiming he'd build a giant border wall and the country on the other side would pay for it, just because...

Don't ever underestimate the stupidity/gullibility of the American voter.

I am actually not a fan of her at all but despite the fact that I don’t agree with her politics, I think that things like this are fun. Support for a common theme should be one thing that can unite people who have different political views. We need more of that in this society, even if it is silly and lighthearted.

I voted against Whitmer and will continue to vote against Whitmer. I don't care if she put on a uniform and kicked the winning field goal against Ohio State, I would still vote against her. If she had a son and he was the number one all-time high school football player and picked Michigan, I would still vote against her.
