Ugh. I take no political "side" on this, but I detest when our political leadership-red, blue or purple-at a state or federal level, pander to fan bases like this. These are employees of tax payers. I don't want them wasting their time or our resources on this type of unproductive activity. Do your job, which is to try to improve the state.

I'm sure that's incorrect. Someone drafted this, another staffer checked it, Whitmer certainly reviewed it, there was more likely than not a consultation with someone in charge of PR and/or the governor's legal counsel.

And yet, it's unreasonable to assume that this prevented then from spending time on other priorities. It's just a fun thing they did at work. That is allowed, you know. You can't honestly say that you spend every moment of your workday being "productive" and that you would get criticized for having some good clean fun at work every now and then.
