Get your bum ass out of bed, it isn't about USC or OSU today!

While Utah looked a lot like us (read that as formidable), today is about derailing Purdue's Choo-Choo train.  Lots of things to do before the game. What's your Championship Gameday ritual.  For myself, I'm continuing what seems like an never ending drive across Texas.  You know it's a long way when the first milage sign you see on I-10 outside of Beaumont read 880.  I'll be thinking about the boys in all-blue and scoffing at the notion that this Purdue team has magical powers, despite the gas bags on Fox hardee-har-har'ing about how their the 'spoilermakers'.  Not Today!

Had a friend (briefly a roommate) whose nickname was "ten o'clock". Called him that because he was one of those "cheerful early risers" who always fell asleep by 10pm. He would have a breakfast ready to go by 7am and then loudly proclaim to the world, "rise and shine, breakfast is on!".

He did that to me, once, on a Saturday morning after we all had politely quieted the Friday night party waaaaay down but continued into the early morning hours. Woke (jolted) me up much too early, much.

Later that same day/evening, we all quieted down *again* to let him sleep. Promptly at midnight, I cranked the music way up to 10 and started loudly bellowing "midnight snacks, come and get it!". He was, uh, not amused but the rest of us were, very.

He thereafter dropped that rise and shine behavior. 50 years later, he's still a good, if now grumpy, friend who never tries to call me until noon. 👍😁👍

Catch ya later tonight, Grampy! Drive safe!

Go Blue!

Time to derail that Boiler Train!

Today driving straight thru the heart of choo-choo land, leaving the GR area shortly and heading down US-31 to Indy.

The ultimate destination this evening is section 349, after first meeting up in Indy for food and drinks with my regular tailgating party/Big House crew.

Ready for the Maize-out!

I'm up!  I'm up, already, don't throw that trash can again.  Good God...

Been listening to the rain since 4:30, more or less.  And now the Pyr has tracked it all over the house.  I'll drop Chihuahua's at the groomer for stuff I'd rather write a check for, and my car at Firestone for new tires.  Otherwise, will be watching football all day.  Hopefully football that includes better tackling than that soft-as-OSU USC defense displayed...  Got damn Riley should be embarrassed today!

Gonna be a good day of football, even though my old ass immune system is working to fight off some kavorka virus that my son brought home from school. Let the top 3 stay where they are and drub Brohm and his dirty POS coaching ways.

I mean they wouldn’t be doing their job if they didn’t try to add some juice to a 3 score spread, but yeah- don’t overlook the “spoilermakers” I guess.

Think I need to get some beef smoked real quick and in the dutch oven for barbacoa tonight…🤔

Those two signs — there’s a very similar one outside of El Paso, heading east — are two of my favorites. The “Everything’s Bigger in Texas” is emphatically implied.

How I'm feeling this morning, One of my favorite songs - Mr Blue Sky:

Morning! Today's forecast calls for blue skies

The sun is shining in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped raining
Everybody's in the play
And don't you know, it's a beautiful new day
Hey, hey, hey!

Running down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
All the streets where once was pity
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today!
Hey, hey, hey!

Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?

Hey, you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race!
A celebration
Mr. Blue Sky's up there waiting
And today is the day we've waited for
Ah, ah, ah

Oh, Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there Mr. Blue!
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around, see what you do
Everybody smiles at you

Hey there Mr. Blue!
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around, see what you do
Everybody smiles at you!

Mr. Blue Sky
Mr. Blue Sky
Mr. Blue Sky

Mr. Blue, you did it right
But soon comes Mr. Night
Creeping over, now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind, I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way!

Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there Mr. Blue (sky)
We're so pleased to be with you (sky)
Look around see what you do (blue)
Everybody smiles at you

Please turn me over

Irish coffee in the mug. Watching the niece and nephew who were up early. They saw deer in the yard and excitedly asked if they were Santa's reindeer. Bless their little hearts, they didn't know any better.

My wife is an awesome Michigan fan.

Last year we blitzed down & back to Indy the same day because she had work shifts at the hospital both Saturday until 3pm & Sunday starting at 9am. This year my 79 year old dad happens to be visiting us this week. Despite my daughter dancing in the Nutcracker tonight, my wife turned to me before The Game & said “If we win, you should take your dad to the BTCG in Indy as a surprise. (He’s a huge M fan & hasn’t been to a game since COVID).

So after making a big breakfast for the family, I’ll be driving w my dad down from Chicagoland to Indy. This time we’ve got a hotel & tomorrow morning we’ll drive back & watch my daughter in her Sunday matinee performance.

It’s 9 degrees with a brisk wind blowing in the northwoods of Wisconsin.

The wood stove is roaring and my dog is curled up on the couch with me.

We’ll watch the US-NED match, then fell a couple of dead standing trees.  After warming up again, it’s time to split a pile of wood that has mocked me for the last 2 months.

And then it’s go time.  It will feel great warming up at the end day while watching our beloved Wolverines take the field.

(After rereading my post, I realize that this is quite possibly the perfect day!)

I did the ritual of buying a glazed donut for my daughter, a danish for me,  along with putting the house Michigan flag up on the way to my truck.
