What "not-so veiled shot"?  You mean where she says UM practices like a real game?

If that's what you mean, it's pretty weak.  I read that as saying nothing more than UM is competitive - even in practices.  No chance to heal when you're always competitive.  I didn't see any shot in that statement, at all.

You couldn’t resist, huh?  Did you call Don and have a good old fashioned grumble session before you posted this? Always stirring the pot, always trying to foment discord and outrage!

She commenting that at Michigan it’s “go or no go” nothing in between — oh the humanity ... won’t someone please think about the children!

It's amazing.  She says her son wasnt given adequate time to heal but fuck me if I point out that I see that as a rather direct shot at the staff.  Who is responsible for giving him time to heal if not the staff?

Jesus it's just amazing how much guys like you HATE anything that might even appear like an opinion that runs counter to yours.  Cause I'm sure you're batting 1000% in all life's decisions to date.

No I just detest shit heads like you who are always trying to stir the pot and find ways to discredit and shame the coaching staff.

If she’s taking a “direct shot at the staff” and believes it’s their fault he’s in this predicament, why would she continue to point out his commitment to the team and the program?  You LOOK for these things over and over, just like Don, Butterfield, etc.  It’s like you desperately want something to go badly and wrong.

It’s not about being contrary to my opinion that rankles me, it’s being anti-Michigan — and nearly everything you post has a subtle (and overt, at times) anti-Michigan/Harbaugh tone.

I posted this yesterday - my anti Michigan bias is pretty clear dont you think?: And you can stop with name calling.  People are allowed to have different opinions on things than you.  You'll learn that when you grow up.

I believe.

And despite my reputation here to the contrary I picked Michigan to beat MSU last Saturday because I now have faith in our players and our coaches.  And the #1 reason why I think this team has the ability to go as far as they want is that they have a very good QB for the first time since pre Iowa 2016.

Our defense is lights out, deep everywhere and led by one of if not the best DC in the country.  Our offense has a very good QB, a very good RB, a stable of young but rapidly improving WRs, a deep and talented TE pool and an offensive line that is improving weekly and led by an excellent OL coach for the first time in forever.  We have a great punter and once Nordin figures out what's bothering him we have a kicker that gives us a threat to score from about the 45 in.

We have Jim motherfucking Harbaugh as our Head Coach.  A man who loves Michigan as much as anybody alive (just watch the locker room video from post game on Saturday if you doubt that) and the worlds biggest and most supportive fan base.

Who's got it better than us right now?

Nobody.

You are more than happy to jump onto the pile when something negative happens or you don't think a recruit is good enough but are the #1 cheerleader during the good times.  That is a lot to be proud of.

When we are in the CFP (hopefully this year) and win a championship or two, you will be crowing about how you were always a loyal supporter of the team.  There are about 20 folks like you on the board - I would be embarrassed to support the team now if I was in that group.

Edit - I did like your edit which tells me something when you can admit that you may have gotten something wrong.  So I give you props for that.

I've supported my alma mater (I have two degrees from Michigan) since the early 70's when my father (who went to undergrad & Dental school there) and my brother (same) started taking me to games.  After I graduated in 81 I held season tickets until 2014 travelling three hours each way each Saturday to go to games and went to one or two road games each year.  And I recruited for the team here in Northern Ohio from 92-94.

So GTFOH on being a bandwagon fan.  I'm not naive enough to think we're going to win every game hundred jillion to nothing like some here or think every recruit we get or dont get is great news so perhaps you're confusing that for not supporting the team.

I don’t think you’re a shithead or a bandwagon fan. I’m still disappointed you gave up your season tickets, though. Did you get them back? Are you planning to?

At any rate, your interpretation was plausible, so I didn’t neg you or anything. I just think it was wrong. Seems like she actually kind of complimented M for trying to have him play through it, giving the correct diagnosis to the further injury, and leaving the decision whether to play or not with Gary.

But then again, I still defend Borges, so I tend to side with the staffs, generally.

Sadly no.  My tailgate disbanded this year so the #1 reason to make the trip outside of the game went away.  Everybody just got old and I think a bit tired of putting it on.

And the moral of today's story is if you feel the need to make a comment that virtually the entire board reads and violently disagrees with make sure you make it now before Seth fixes the point calculator thingie.  I dont think in 8 years of offering up my very important thoughts I've ever struck a negative chord quite like this one.

While you don't have to be excited and comment on new recruit "Hello" posts.  Any supposed fan who actively shits on a new recruit is an asshole.

You are literally shitting on a teenager on what is supposed to be one of the best days of their life when you know that he and his family are 99% guaranteed to read it.  It is the equivalent of going up to a bride on her wedding day and telling her that she looks like shit.

By the way, we are the only fan base that shits on recruits en masse.  I have ready equivalent "Hello" posts for 3 stars on OSU, MSU, Georgia and Iowa boards and have never seen more than maybe 1 person question if that players' commitment should have been accepted.  It was an OSU poster for one of their 3 stars this year and the Eleven Warriors mods blanked it out although you could still read it.

Except I dont.  Nice try in accusing me of doing something I dont do and have never done in order to fit your narrative.

Like I said before I actually recruited for Michigan for three years.  I actually DID it.  Went out and watched games, met with friends and family,  filed reports and spoke to the recruiting coordinator about the kids I was assaigned to cover.  And what have you done?

So kiss my ass in trying to say I shit on any recruit, ever.  That's a bold-face lie.

You definitely shit on Jeff George Jr. which I admit is not as bad as shitting on teenagers.  If you are not part of the starz mafia - then I apologize that your nearly constant negativity about the program made me think that you were part of that group.

Btw/ I keep going to the well on JGJ because that was literally the post where this website bottomed out.  This ridiculous fanbase literally went into hysteria over a f&cking PWO spot.  I have cut my posting by 90% because it made me feel dirty even being part of the board.

I made one comment in that thread.  And if you consider this "shitting on him" then I guess we've got completely different definitions of what that means.  I thought it was kinda funny (as did three others)

Maybe he wasnt paying close attention to our offseason and only has the OSU & South Carolina games fresh in his mind.  If so I get it.  He probably thought "Shit....even I could start for these guys"

Ok Oldie,

I apologize for calling you a shit head — especially in light of the effusive praise of the program just yesterday!

Once again, I’m 100% tolerant of opinions with which I disagree.  However, if I disagree I will challenge them — in large part, that’s was fan boards are for.

Sans name calling (see apology above), I’ve neither the time nor the inclination to sift through 1000’s of MGoBlog posts looking for those that display the negative  slant of which is spoke.  But, your post yesterday aside, do you deny that you’re often negative?

mGrowOld

October 24th, 2018 at 11:29 AM ^

Apology accepted and thank you.

Yes, I do deny I'm often negative.  I think I'm realistic.   If you read virtually every post I've made since the ND game they have had one consistent theme - until we hit the gauntlet mid season we're going to have no idea what we've got.  And I believed that.  And now we do now - we've got one hell of team this year.

I predicted we'd lost the ND game and we did.  That's not negative - it's correct.   I predicted we'd go 9-3 this season with losses to ND, either MSU or Wisconsin and OSU.  Right now I hope like hell that's wrong but it's certainly not out of the question if things dont go well next Saturday (and I for the record I think we'll kill PSU).  I said scheduling the ND game was stupid when we did it and now i think that even more so.  Recruiting I've been less than thrilled with but you've never once seen me say anything negative about an individual recruit - not once.  And hey, maybe I'll be wrong there too when all is said and done.

And it sure looks like I was wrong on Gary.  Like you said - isnt that what fan boards are for?

I don’t think your interpretation is crazy or clearly wrong, but I also don’t think it’s as obvious as you seem to think it is. She said Gary decided to play through it, hoping it would heal on its own but given how tough practice is, it never had the chance. You could read that as criticism of the coaching staff for not letting him ease up in practice at the start of the season to give him time to heal or you could read that as him making his own decision about his rehab and it not working out.

I think either reading is plausible, but I suspect that Harbaugh would have rather had Gary miss SMU than MSU and would not have rushed him back if Gary didn’t want to play.

Prince Lover

October 24th, 2018 at 9:51 AM ^

What she said sounded like, you can’t practice, you can’t play. I think that is fairly common in coaching philosophies. And that’s why he kept practicing. But then was told by the medical staff, you should stop practicing otherwise surgery may be required. So he stopped.

She also more than implied he is a wolverine and didn’t want to play where it wouldn’t help his teammates. And she fairly clearly stated stop the rumors and speculations.

So maybe stop spreading a rumor and speculating that she’s taking shots at Harbaugh and staff.

I respect your opinion and input on this board, but you are looking too deep into a rock on this one.  The complete sentence is that.... HE (Gary) chose to practice and rehab, BUT practice is too intense.

It does not give any indication the coaching staff 'forced' Gary to practice.  They allowed him to decide his own fate.

Gary gave it a try for a few weeks, then decided to follow the Medical Staff recommendation of complete rest (4-6 week).  Good for him, and there has been ZERO evidence / rumors / hidden messages from the coaching staff is dissatisfied with Gary's decision.

Rest up Gary, plenty of big games await your return....Columbus, Big Ten Championship, and CFP

Others have pointed it out and I will repeat it. I took that as it is full go practice and he could further injure himself. I find her to be one of the human beings who will speak her mind, going back to commitment and rhe discussions during that time. Nothing more and nothing else. I value your opinion most of the team, including your level headedness with ND, but not this one. MHO.

I didn't miss it and took her implication to mean that had the coaching staff allowed him to heal during September that he would have been fully available for October and November.  She didn't have to mention it, yet she felt compelled to do so.  So yes, a not so veiled shot at the coaching staff.

You are being unfairly (IMO) negged on this. Re-read her statement- It "sounds" like Rashan wanted to be held out of practice and still play. This is done all of the time in the NFL- see Aaron Rogers and dozens of other examples. In college, I don't know. At Michigan, under Harbaugh (and certainly under Bo), if you don't practice you don't play. Still believe that the team athletic staff cleared him and he was getting separate advice which differed from that.

Franz Schubert

October 24th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^

I took it the same way but I want to believe it wasn’t a shot at the staff. I think the timing of this, coinciding with Bosa making the decision he did and numerous articles being written that this is the new trend, all this absolves the fans.

Rodriguesqe

Whats interesting about this comment is you are exactly the person she was actually complaining about - the dumbass that compared Rashan to Bosa... And you are projecting that to the coaching staff. Its sad to me that Michigan can awardt two degrees to such a dunce.

Academic universities are good, but are falllable like the rest of us!

Yes.

It is sad Rashan's mom had to comment at all.

She has never changed her goals for her son--and neither has he.

They invested in Michigan because of academics and his football opportunities--they have become delightful Michigan role models.

Safety never takes a holiday--he will play when he can safely play like Rashan Gary again.

End of conversation.
