Friday Hoops Open Thread
Slew of good games today with several potentially impacting Michigan's seeding and RPI, as found in Seth's rooting guide (link). Two of the early games, VCU/URI and SMU/Cincy, fall into that category and both are close at the half (though VCU had a garbage last offensive possession and then did nothing to stop the ball and allowed URI an uncontested three that they buried).
Today's schedule:
Happy viewing!!
Not sure it was mentioned anywhere, but LaVall Jordan coached Butler to their first Big East Tournament win yesterday. Go Bulldogs! Beat Villanova!
But if I don't see
M
I'm not interested. Go Blue.
think that ESPN has over-saturated the Duke/NC rivalry with the amount of hype and attention they give it every time they play. I am no longer really intrigued when I see that matchup.
I know ESPN gets a bad rap for the amount of hype they give, but I don't think this rivalry is an example of that. Duke/UNC never disappoints!
Yeah, they have actually split the last 102. So whoever wins tonight gets the advantage for ten/eleven months (unless they meet in the Elite 8, Final 4, or National Title Game).
Duke/UNC is not one of them.
Yes, I am a biased UNC fan. And yes, I find it utterly ridiculous to say a rivalry like Duke-UNC can be "overhyped."
it's going that way. Collin Sexton lighting Auburn up ever time I check in.
(sung to the tune of Boola-Boola) "Bama Bama, Bama Bama. Bama Bammmma, Bama Bammmma"
This should keep Auburn on the 3 or 4 line.
+Bama whooping Auburn!
Good for M I guess?
Thanks for posting the Conference Tunamelt schedule! I've got my rootbeer guide handy so I know who to cheer for.
I'll be watching the Big East games so I can listen to Raftery...Onions, manaman, withakiss!
Go Blue!
I watched the BTT championship game on Youtube this week at 2x speed. It was worth it for about five minutes.
We WERE HOT!!!
Who knows another week from now?!
DELANEY!!!!!!!
They've been upsetting teams and make deep tournament runs for years even though they have an 8-10 day layoff every year.
Plus, most first round upsets are by teams that finished their conference tournament days before their opponent.
We'll be fine.
VCU and Ponies! Hang in there!!!
Ponies... lol, they're falling a bit behind coming down to the gun. Down 10 now. :/
Yeah, SMU faltered in the final furlong, they dun now...
(a little horse humor)
the Pony Express is loaded with nags ready for the glue factory. If only Eric Dickerson had another year of eligibility, he could have helped bring them home.
Dang. SMU and VCU are much closer that I expected them to be. Maybe our luck has turned? Would be great to get Cincy and URI knocked off early.
Cincy likely has to win their tourament to lock up solid a 2. Still a chance they could lose in the semis (losing to Wichita in the finals would not help, as it won't hurt Cincy much and may boost Wichita above Michigan).
This A10 game is some sloppy basketball - very different from any B1G game I've seen all year
It is a little weird going from our 0 turnover first half against Purdue to watching this junk, isn't it?
UM is an extreme case with our turnover avereness, but I feel like even Rutgers would look clean compared to these guys
Considering Rutgers would fit right in with the A10 I think that's a pretty good example.
Bama up 18?? Go to a meeting and look what happens. Sheesh.
After watching multiple League Tourney games this week my main take away is Mich BB is a much more aesthetically pleasing brand of ball.I'm seeing an epidemic of low quality shots taken,a rash of turn overs and generally sloppy play akin to rec ball...A 2nd observation is the significant talent advantage teams like NC & Duke have over us (not saying Mich couldn't beat either)....God Bless John Beilein for providing Mich BB fans a high quality brand of ball, consistantly doing more with less and doing it without breaking any rules...Also,am I only one who got sick of ESPN's day long pimping for ND to get into the NCAA Tourney? Today's ESPN project is mentioning the upcoming NC-Duke game tonite..*Dammit even I just gave a plug to that game.
You're not the only one sick of hearing about Notre Dame. I was so glad when Grayson Allen and Marvin Bagley were going off last night!
I am also sick of hearing about Oklahoma, too. Glad Oklahoma State won that one, too.
Something good!
That has to drop them below us. They were first 3 seed, but unless Bama keeps rolling they'll have others ahead of them from the SEC now. Gotta keep rooting for Bama I guess.
Bama is #43 in RPI, somehow, so this counts as a Q1 game for Auburn. Even with this loss, their Q1 record and probably their RPI will still be better than ours. I don't see this affecting us at all. Auburn is probably still ahead of us.
41-31 at half. Bama outscored them 50-22 in 2nd half - final score 81-63. Wow...
There is NO way that Auburn gets a 3 seed after that debacle, and now losers of 4 of their last 6. It was asinine that the brackets had them at 3 (and some at 2) heading into this game.
They will get no better than a 4 or 5 seed - and that is a gift for this team. They suck - big time - and even the morons on the Selection Committee can't screw this particular one up.
Stick a fork in Auburn - they are done. One less team to worry about for #3 seed competition. Now let's see Tennessee get beat!!!
in St. Louis makes about as much sense as Big 10 in NYC. Probably less given NYC market>>>>>>StL market.
What a difference between BB & FB
And Villanova to win today and tomorrow (probably against Xavier).
got taken out by Providence.
