Friday Hoops Open Thread

Submitted by MH20 on

Slew of good games today with several potentially impacting Michigan's seeding and RPI, as found in Seth's rooting guide (link).  Two of the early games, VCU/URI and SMU/Cincy, fall into that category and both are close at the half (though VCU had a garbage last offensive possession and then did nothing to stop the ball and allowed URI an uncontested three that they buried).

Not sure it was mentioned anywhere, but LaVall Jordan coached Butler to their first Big East Tournament win yesterday. Go Bulldogs! Beat Villanova!

think that ESPN has over-saturated the Duke/NC rivalry with the amount of hype and attention they give it every time they play.  I am no longer really intrigued when I see that matchup.

I know ESPN gets a bad rap for the amount of hype they give, but I don't think this rivalry is an example of that. Duke/UNC never disappoints!

UNC/Duke have split the last 100 games. That’s insane and the true definition of a rivalry. Personally, I think it deserves more attention.

Thanks for posting the Conference Tunamelt schedule!  I've got my rootbeer guide handy so I know who to cheer for.

I'll be watching the Big East games so I can listen to Raftery...Onions, manaman, withakiss!

Go Blue!

Dang. SMU and VCU are much closer that I expected them to be. Maybe our luck has turned? Would be great to get Cincy and URI knocked off early.

After watching multiple League Tourney games this week my main take away is Mich BB is a much more aesthetically pleasing brand of ball.I'm seeing an epidemic of low quality shots taken,a rash of turn overs and generally sloppy play akin to rec ball...A 2nd observation is the significant talent advantage teams like NC & Duke have over us (not saying Mich couldn't beat either)....God Bless John Beilein for providing Mich BB fans a high quality brand of ball, consistantly doing more with less and doing it without breaking any rules...Also,am I only one who got sick of ESPN's day long pimping for ND to get into the NCAA Tourney? Today's ESPN project is mentioning the upcoming NC-Duke game tonite..*Dammit even I just gave a plug to that game.

You're not the only one sick of hearing about Notre Dame. I was so glad when Grayson Allen and Marvin Bagley were going off last night!

I am also sick of hearing about Oklahoma, too. Glad Oklahoma State won that one, too.

So 20 point thrashing by a bubble team, you'd think this would definitely push us ahead of auburn. But alas, the committee does love to screw us in our sleep.

Bama is #43 in RPI, somehow, so this counts as a Q1 game for Auburn.  Even with this loss, their Q1 record and probably their RPI will still be better than ours.  I don't see this affecting us at all.  Auburn is probably still ahead of us.

41-31 at half.  Bama outscored them 50-22 in 2nd half - final score 81-63.  Wow...

There is NO way that Auburn gets a 3 seed after that debacle, and now losers of 4 of their last 6.  It was asinine that the brackets had them at 3 (and some at 2) heading into this game.

They will get no better than a 4 or 5 seed - and that is a gift for this team.  They suck - big time - and even the morons on the Selection Committee can't screw this particular one up.

Stick a fork in Auburn - they are done.  One less team to worry about for #3 seed competition.  Now let's see Tennessee get beat!!!
