It's probably more accurate to say that transfer portal players don't have much interest in Michigan. There's going to be 12 schools in the playoff next year and we're one of the only ones that won't offer monetary incentives until after you've been on campus 2-3 years and proven to be a star on the field. That's not going to attract any level of talent in the portal.

But then how did UM draw in guys last year?  They didn't offer any different NIL deals then, and while you can argue that the 12-team playoff makes more schools attractive it's not like the usual big players - LSU, TAMU, Miami, etc.- weren't in similar positions than they were this offseason.

There are still lots of guys out there, and UM will take a run at some of them.  They already got a couple of starter-ish guys in Pribe and Barham, and the far bigger issue is likely Harbaugh's ongoing uncertainty as HC at UM than some NIL program that hasn't changed in years and, if anything, is purportedly becoming more aggressive.

One thing to keep in mind, if Harbaugh does stay, there will be a Spring Portal, that he can use to fill any missing pieces and the Spring portal has the potential for some very good players, who may have stuck around only to see they have been replaced.
