Football Injury Updates

Submitted by winterblue75 on December 17th, 2022 at 11:58 AM

Was at a holiday party last night and a member of the defensive staff was there:

Mike Morris is a go for TCU

Donavan Edwards had hand surgery the day after the Purdue game, he’s expected to be a go

Corum will not be playing at all, if there was any wishful thinking

Sam said in his show that DE's Dad did not think they will do the surgery until the season is over. So, the defensive staff is messing around and the reverse of OP is a possibility and hoping both BC and DE are full go, but DE with a cast and he has been practicing one handed catches for 4 weeks.

That "expected" has me a bit worried. Hopefully he's fully healed and can catch some passes out of the backfield.

Thanks for providing the information!

Why?  If he was, say 70% with a cast, but you think you can get him to 100% by the playoffs...go for it.

Could also be a situation where it was healing incorrectly and needed to be fixed to prevent long term issues.  Maybe they eeked out 2 weeks, but knew they had to act before it healed wrong.

I'm super bummed for Corum that he's missing this, and also bummed for us that we won't have him, but having a fully operational Edwards is so crucial, esp against a hypothetical Georgia national championship game.

Bummed about Corum.

I was working under the assumption that Edwards' hand was healing in a protective cast, not that it would require surgery.

I don't like your update. Boo. Go to better parties.

Yikes! Let’s hope not…

Most wear a soft splint for the first week and then spend four to six weeks in a cast to allow the ligament to heal. Rehabilitation with a certified hand therapist helps regain strength and stability. Patients generally return to daily activities and work within a few weeks, often with a splint to avoid stressing the UCL too much. Return to sports usually takes about three to four months.

"if there was any wishful thinking"

Please use the subjunctive.

Ha! Points aren't working! I can be a grammar nazi with zero consequences! Go ahead! Negbang me! I double dog dare you!

In fact, reread my post pretending it is in all caps! Also, when I post elsewhere I use "Sharty" and "O$U."

Also, I had a nightmare last night in which we were in the CFP finals against Ohio State and we had two (I kid you not, two!) safeties and we were ahead in the first quarter 7-4. I woke in a cold sweat....

Edit: Crap! Points are now working! I apologize! I am full of contrition! /s x 3!!!!

Thought Sam said on the Roundtable that he had just talked to Edwards dad and he said that the surgery would be after the season. Maybe I misheard that.

Hopefully the hand surgery recovery goes as planned.  One positive either way is he played well with a cast so even if it's not 100% he'll still know he can perform.

Yeah, I didn't think Corum was coming back anyway so not a surprise.  I know the official word around here was "so you're telling me there's a chance" but given how limited he looked before the injury even an aggressive recovery timeline felt unlikely.

Edwards surgery probably just to install a brace or pin. Doubtful this keeps him out. He's a one handed back anyway.

Definitely having Morris makes us even better against Duggan who is the kind of player like Clifford but better passer and maybe better runner.

So had this coach had a few drinks at the time? It's hard for me to believe that anyone on staff was supposed to talk about things like that.

Is there a glimmer of hope that Corum could play if they make it to the title game? It seems odd that there wasn’t official confirmation from Harbaugh or anyone within the program that Corum is done for the year?

I’m assuming he is done-zo and off to the draft to go make his money, but maybe I’m foolishly thinking there’s still a small sliver of chance he comes back for the title game if they’re fortunate enough to make it that far.
