Florida/LSU Cancelled

Submitted by JClay on

Apparently LSU offered to move the game to Baton Rogue but Florida refused. Game is cancelled with a "chance of rescheduling" later in the season. Some talk both teams will buy their way out of their 11/19 patsy games but no common bye weeks.

Tennessee's next two games are at A&M and home against Bama.  It's not that far fetched that Tennessee loses both of those games, which means if Florida wins out they'd win the SEC East.

If I were Tennessee at 6-2 and Florida was declared the SEC East winner at 6-1 without playing LSU, I'd be furious.

Was under the impression that cross divisional games mean next to nothing when comparing divisional records.

Yes, Tennessee could lose both of those games, but there's a very good chance they could sweep the Eastern division. They've already beaten the two toughest opponents they have in the East.

I would think losing to Alabama and A&M would not make any difference in them making it to Atlanta if they win all of their divisional games.

In college football between inter and intra division games when it comes to standings. All conference games count equally. If UT goes 6-2 with a win over Florida with the two losses to teams in the West and Florida goes 7-1, the Gators win the East. It's why Whisky kind of gets hosed this year - they have to play both OSU and UM in the East. They could beat everyone in the West and be 6-2, but if Nebraska finishes conference play 7-1, the Huskers go to the title game.

I wasn't exactly sure what the poster I replied to was projecting for Tennessee and Florida's final conference records.  Unless the SEC comes up with a temporary rule for Florida possibly only playing 7 conference games, conferences usually place equal weight on conference games whether in or out of a team's respective division.

Yeah. But South Carolina was 1-4 at the time and on their way to a 3-9 season.

Florida and LSU have somewhat of a rivalry. It's been a pretty big game over the years. The mere thought that LSU would even think Florida would agree to move the game to their stadium is pretty comical.

Florida still has a solid shot at an sec east title, not sure how a cancelled game impacts that.

And for everyone saying LSU would never give a game up, well in 2005 after Katrina they played in Tempe Arizona rather than a home game against ASU.  Florida is being pretty petty about it.

not being played this year. They will find a way to squeeze it in sometime. Way too important of a game in the SEC and a lot of money lost if not played.

The only date I see is to play the game on LSU's bye week on oct 29th and move Florida's game vs Georgia up one week to the 22nd (both Fla and Ga are on bye the 22nd)

Its doable. I can't believe they waited this long to make a decisions. Guess the almighty ESS EEE SEE speed we hear about doesn't translate to decision making

Remember that episode of Friday Night Lights when the Coach Taylor decided to play their evil rival on a makeshift neutral field?  Why couldn't they just meet at the GA dome or somesuch?

They are headstrong and holding on lol. Safety and statewide evacuation be damned lol. Miami won't move the game to Tampa either.....the sensible option. Miami brass is about as ignorant as they come.

This REALLY has to suck for Miami. They're undefeated, they're playing much better football than anyone expected and they have their main rival (who has been punched in the mouth in recent weeks) at home.

Plus, since the opponent is FSU, this would be the one game where they have more than 50 fans in the stadium.

1. FSU has to travel to Miami....now. 2. Will there be power? 3. Will there be resources and means to return? 4. The storm is supposed to hit Florida twice. 5. There is a statewide evacuation. 6. Nearly 300 people have been killed by this storm already. 7. To hell with a football game.

Here is the thing....the hurricane warnings for that area are already terminated. The biggest wind gust forecast is 50 miles an hour on Friday. They aren't putting people in danger by keeping the game in Miami, the danger would be moving it at this late stage. Baring a massive loss of power, which is highly doubtful for that area dude to the grid being run off the turkey point nuke plant, the game will go on....its that simple.

They can play in our stadium, it's an away game.  We keep the profits.  We can laugh at the lowest attendance football game in Michigan stadium ever.

I mean at least the gators fans are having to mostly drive north to avoid storms anyway right?

I mean we can at least offer it?

We don't really want their drunk fans in AA.

Annnnnd LSU just turned down UF's recommendation to play the game November 19th. So this game really isn't going to get played. In 2016, they can't figure out a way to play the damned thing. And I'd wager players have no fucking vote in all of this, either.

It seems there should have been some other option. Playing in Georgia  at  the Falcons Stadium  .

Playing the game Thursday through Monday . We all know they dont give a shit about their Student Athletes .

This cancellation is on Florida. They've known about this storm all week and had plenty of time to come up with a contingency plane. LSU offered up their stadium and to provide transportation to and from Baton Rouge for Florida. Florida didn't like that, so they should have had some other neutral site set up. I get not wanting to make a home game an away game, but they should have had a contingency plan beyond a new date that would require LSU to give up a home game.

And honestly this is exactly what Florida wants. For Florida to beat Tennessee in the SEC East, Tennesse needs to lose two more times than Florida the rest of the year. So if Florida wins out, Tennessee needs to lose twice.

So basically Florida would need to go 7-1 in conference while Tennessee goes 6-2. With this game now cancelled, Florida would still win the SEC East at 6-1 with a better winning percentage tie-breaker, so now Florida only needs to win 4 games the rest of the year instead of 5, and doesn't have to play their toughest game left in LSU.

Similarly this screws LSU. If LSU were to win out, normally they'd be 7-1. If Bama also went 7-1 (loss to LSU obviously), LSU would win the SEC West based on a the head to head tie-breaker. Now LSU can only go 6-1, which gives Alabama the SEC West based on the winning percentage tie-breaker.

Agreed. UCF rescheduled their home game with Tulane to later in the season bc they had a mutual open week.

Moreover, UCF reached out to USF and was able to use their facilities for home soccer and volleyball matches this weekend. UF dropped the ball on this one
