Florida/LSU Cancelled

Submitted by JClay on

Apparently LSU offered to move the game to Baton Rogue but Florida refused. Game is cancelled with a "chance of rescheduling" later in the season. Some talk both teams will buy their way out of their 11/19 patsy games but no common bye weeks.

This will never happen but they could push back the SEC Championship game to the following week and play LSU/Florida that week. If Army/Navy can play the week after then I don't see why the SEC couldn't. Of course that would fuck up all the CFP scheduling and bowl posistioning. What if one year Army or Navy went undefeated and were good enough to make the Playoff? They would have to postpone the rankings a week anyway.

Oh and fuck the SEC!

I live in Gainesville and go to UF games regularly.  State Police are an issue, but not the deciding factor.  Most of the security is provided by Gainesville PD, whose officers are VERY ENTHUSIASTIC about the extra OT pay on gameday.  They should have moved the game to 5pm Sat. or Sunday.  Moderate rain and 30mph gusts in Gainesville right now, with only a 10% chance of showers on Saturday.

But we know, according to some, Miami and much of the florida coast will be under water in a couple decades.  Just can't quite predict where a hurricane will hit when its 25miles off the coast and just hours away.

Football as big business leads to some cynicism, like Florida is lying that they couldn't travel on short notice. Well they also have over 70 players with families living in the hurricane warning area. That could be part of it too, just maybe What will be interesting to me is if they cancel the tomato cans. Insurance will cover the cancellation of *this* game for Florida, but LSU would have to pay out almost $2 mil to South AL and also the lost $$ from their home game, which i doubt insurance would cover. Also LSU is supposed to play A&M just 5 days after that, and the tomato can are scheduled that week for a reason - practically a bye week before the big finale. Everyone hates that cowardice, but don't expect LSU to give all that up unless the SEC makes them. If Tenn is 6-2 and UF 6-1 i expect that to happen because Tenn would hold the tiebreaker. If UF needs a big win to make the playoff (like rank 6-10th), i expect it to happen. If not, they will keep the tomato cans Ultimately all involved will look terrible if they keep the tomato cans

1 - move the Georgia-Florida game up one week and then LSU and Florida can play the following week - byes would line up

2 - play each other the week they were supposed to play out of conference games - they can make those up the week they play the SEC championship game and if one of those teams are in the game they can cancel the OOC game and the SEC/Insurance can pay off the OOC opponent

and the location of Gainesville, I was a bit surprised they cancelled it this early. Given cancelling it might be a benefit to the Gators, perhaps they pulled the trigger a bit more readily than they otherwise would have.
