First Playing Time for Glenn Robinson III + other UM NBA Players.

Submitted by Smoothitron on

In his first playing time for the Pacers, GRIII made a big impact with 10 points on 3-4 shooting(4/5 FT); he also chipped in 2 boards and a steal in 19 minutes.  Perhaps most importantly, he found himself on the floor with the score tied and less than a minute left against Evan Turner, Jared Sullinger and the Celtics.  The preseason noise about his development might not be the mirage it appeared to be after starting the season with 4 straight DNPs.

Stauskas started again for the Sixers and currently has 14 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists in the 3rd quarter, albeit not very efficiently(5/14 FG, 3/10 3pt)

Tim Hardaway and Mitch McGary's teams are both in action tonight, although neither have played.  McGary has 4 quality big men in front of him in OKC, while Tim Hardaway appears to be the literal last man off the bench for Atlanta at this point.

Final lines:

Robinson: 10 PTS, 3-4 FG, 4-5 FT, 2 REB, 1 STL, 1 TO, 19 Minutes
Stauskas: 14 PTS, 5-19 FG, 3-14 3PT, 1-1 FT, 7 REB, 4 AST, 4 TO, 35 Minutes
Hardaway: DNP-CD
McGary: DNP-CD
Burke: 17 PTS, 7-13 FG, 1-4 3PT, 2-2 FT, 2 REB, 1 STL, 2 TO, 26 Minutes
Crawford: 8 PTS, 4-15 FG, 0-3 3PT, 5 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 20 Minutes

It might be just me, but has anyone else noticed that OKC has some affinity for getting centers? I think I remember hearing on this board - and I could be wrong - that McGary was behind a guy or two on the Thunder's bench. That is a bit surprising considering how intensely they scouted him while he was still at Michigan - up to and including scouting the way he interacted with the team, from what I understand.

I still tend to believe they must have a plan for McGary though.

They have Adams who is a great defensive center, and Kanter who is a great scorer. If they want to go smallish they can put in Ibaka. The thunder have built their team around Durant and Westbrook which means accumulating good defensive big men and Adams fits the best with those plans.

I wouldn't be too concerned about McGary, it would be tough for any young player to bust into that rotation.  Ibaka and Steven Adams are a great front line and Kanter is a luxury off the bench.  Collison has been on that team since Seattle and fulfills the wily/crafty veteran role. McGary will find time when injuries strike and show what he's made of.

Hardaway on the other hand...being on the Knicks did nothing for his development.  His time might be about up.

Even worse, Tim hasn't been activated at all. Wouldn't even be allowed to leave his place on the bench.

There's gotta be more to it. As I shared in the other thread, they gave up a first round pick for him. A lot of talk of him not moving on from the trade, might be an attitude thing. Hope it's something he gets through. Still has a good shot at having a productive career.

I dont understand why OKC is keeping all these centers. McGary is skrewed behind 3 other guys and i am sure from what Ive seen from him last year that he is a starter on most other teams

Good for Nik and GRIII that they've seemingly landed on teams which fit them well. Also glad that Trey seems to be finding his shot.

But man...Andre Drummond-WTF? His rbd numbers are absurd. Dude's literally averaging 20/gm...6 more than the next guy (DeAndre Jordan).

I talked to Stauskas at a preseason game at MSG a few weeks ago. I had a feeling I would get a shot since my boss's seats are where the visiting team enters/leaves the court. Nik was nice enough to sign a bottle of Sauce Castillo that I smuggled into the Garden. Great kid - was bummed he didn't get to play, but it was only preseason.

Thanks for posting this. I don't follow the NBA, but I enjoy hearing how our guys are doing at that level.

Trey Burke had a good game today with 17pts (7-13FGA, 1-4 3PT), 1STL, 2REB. The encouraging sign is that he has hit all his FTs this year. Last year, he didn't shoot FT as well as we have known Burke to shoot. Nice to see him having a solid game and start to the season.

I was at the game and GRIII looked good. He hit a big shot as the shot clock was about out. Big boost for the Pacers last night when some of their other scorers were off.
