First Camp Randall Visit

Submitted by Dennis on
1st Camp Randall visit... what are must see food/drink spots in Madison? And are Wisco fans as heathenous as OSU fans?

But been to Madison and it's a really nice campus.  Kind of a similar feel to Ann Arbor.  Hope you enjoy the trip and the fans don't mistreat you, especially after we win.

I’ll be there on Saturday as well. Weather looks chilly, but will anybody be out tailgating? A lot of bar suggestions, is that kind of how the pre-gaming in Madison is set up? Or are people gonna be getting together somewhere to tailgate? If so, what are the best places for that?

People will set up "old fashioned" tailgating in some of the private business parking lots around the stadium, but it's not pervasive. There are some bigger lots down by the lakeshore where most of that happens. In the immediate stadium/campus area it's largely bars and house parties.

We're gonna be hitting the road here in a bit. Safe travels to everyone heading to town. Despite the weather and early kick it should be a festive weekend. If you see a group around town tonight including a guy and two girls in matching Wisconsin Christmas sweaters, give a holler, that's us. (The sweaters weren't my idea, but I'm powerless.)

I always attend a September game so that I can enjoy the Union Terrace afterwards. As others noted, too damn cold and miserable this weekend for that. But the Rathskellar inside is a lot of fun, also. Probably pretty crowded after an 11:00AM game, but it's on the way to a dozen other places so worth a look.

I really like Paul's Club which is on State Street closer to the Capitol. I'm old enough to have kids in college and it's mellow but still offbeat.

Honestly, just wander around. The restaurants and bars are innumerable.

If you've got kids (or even if you don't) and you've got a little time on Sunday, Madison has a really nice, free zoo. A visit to the Capital building is worth the time, too.
