ESPN's "Way-Too-Early" All-American team
While most of us are still basking in the glow of the National Championship, the rest of the college football world is already looking forward to next season. We have preseason rankings, preseason Heisman favorites, preseason All-American teams, etc. Of course, none of these really matter, but it’s always fun to look at the projections.
ESPN has put out it’s Way-Too-Early All-American team. Here are the most represented teams (and Colorado).
- OSU: 6
- Alabama: 5
- Georgia: 5
- Michigan: 4
- Colorado: 2 (Travis Hunter and Travis Hunter)
Here’s the full list (I only included the blurbs for Michigan players).
OFFENSE
QB: Carson Beck, Georgia
- Second team: Dillon Gabriel, Oregon
RB: Ollie Gordon II, Oklahoma State
- Second team: Omarion Hampton, North Carolina
RB: TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
- Second team: Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State
WR: Luther Burden III, Missouri
- Second team: Tory Horton, Colorado State
WR: Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
- Second team: Tre Harris, Ole Miss
TE: Colston Loveland, Michigan
The 6-foot-5 Loveland bulked up to 245 pounds and emerged as a staple in the Wolverines' offense on their way to the national championship. He finished third on the team with 45 catches, averaging 14.4 yards per catch, and hauled in four touchdown receptions while earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. There will be several high-quality tight ends around the country in 2024, but Loveland's skills as both a receiver and blocker pushed him to the top of the list.
- Second team: Brant Kuithe, Utah
OT: Will Campbell, LSU
- Second team: Earnest Greene, Georgia
OG: Tate Ratledge, Georgia
- Second team: Tyler Booker, Alabama
C: Parker Brailsford, Alabama
- Second team: Tyler Booker, Alabama
OG: Donovan Jackson, Ohio State
- Second team: Dylan Fairchild, Georgia
OT: Kelvin Banks Jr., Texas
- Second team: Ajani Cornelius, Oregon
All-Purpose: Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
- Second team: Travis Hunter, Colorado
DEFENSE
DE: James Pearce Jr., Tennessee
- Second team: Rueben Bain Jr., Miami
DT: Tyleik Williams, Ohio State
- Second team: Howard Cross III, Notre Dame
DT: Mason Graham, Michigan
Graham was an integral piece of a Michigan defense that was the backbone of the Wolverines' national championship team. He returns as one of the top interior defensive linemen in college football after earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. The 6-3, 318-pound Graham played with a broken thumb through much of last season and was at his best in the postseason.
- Second team: Deone Walker, Kentucky
DE: Ashton Gillotte, Louisville
- Second team: Landon Jackson, Arkansas
LB: Harold Perkins, LSU
- Second team: Jay Higgins, Iowa
LB: Deontae Lawson, Alabama
- Second team: Danny Stutsman, Oklahoma
LB: Barrett Carter, Clemson
- Second team: Abdul Carter, Penn State
CB: Travis Hunter, Colorado
- Second team: Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame
CB: Will Johnson, Michigan
In 2023, Johnson went from being one of the best freshmen in the country to one of the best cornerbacks in the country. He's poised to be even better next season after earning consensus first-team All-Big Ten honors. Johnson (6-2, 202) has great size for a cornerback and didn't give up any touchdowns in 321 coverage snaps. He was the defensive MVP in the national championship game.
- Second team: Denzel Burke, Ohio State
S: Caleb Downs, Ohio State
- Second team: Xavier Watts, Notre Dame
S: Malaki Starks, Georgia
- Second team: Rod Moore, Michigan
SPECIAL TEAMS
K: Graham Nicholson, Miami (Ohio)
- Second team: Andres Borregales, Miami
P: Alex Mastromanno, Florida State
- Second team: James Burnip, Alabama
Returner: Zachariah Branch, USC
- Second team: Barion Brown, Kentucky

Unless Day let's BoB go run-happy there's no chance they're both AA and it's pretty unlikely either gets there

I hate when these stupid lists still manage to pull some sort of reaction out of me. I respect TreVeyon Henderson, I think he's a tremendous player who should have gone pro purely because of injury history and the position he plays. Having said that, a guy who may not even start is 1st team all american? There's no way they got that kid from Ole Miss without some assurances as far as playing time.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:42 AM ^
I do not actually like any Buckeyes. That being said, within those boundaries, I am a big TreVeyon Henderson fan. I think for some reason Michigan fans underrate him consistently while everybody else sees that he's really good.

There are plenty of players they had who I hated, but on the whole I hate their fans exponentially more than their players.
I actively despise MSU players on the other hand because their team culture (and gutter trash fan base) encourages dirty play. Begrudgingly, it seems like Jonathan Smith is a solid guy, I hope he changes that

After the Michigan game this season, for the first time in literally ages, I saw MSU play with a degree of sportsmanship. It was actually pretty startling. I hope the new staff builds off of that. Frankly, the MSU kids deserve better than they have been getting. College football can be a lot more fun than the players have at MSU.

Jonathan Smith retained Harlon Barnett. It was a good call. Barnett held the team together throughout a brutal year, and they were shockingly more-successful-than-expected.
Whatever he did worked as well as it possibly could have. And if his leadership helps the culture, I’m all for it.
unfortunately, Barnett disagrees, and announced his departure from MSU.
I WANT the Michigan-MSU rivalry to be intense and mutually beneficial. It starts internally for them.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:15 AM ^
Well put. Yeah, the new staff needs to dig deep at State. There could be something good there down deep, but they have several layers of grime to get through.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
Maybe underating him because he was a high 5 star elite cant miss number 1 running back out of high school, and he has not been that?
January 24th, 2024 at 11:26 AM ^
I think he has been. He is injury prone, that is for sure. But when he is on the field he is explosive.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:00 AM ^
When healthy and things are blocked Henderson can hit dingers. Dangerous player. I haven't seen Judkins play a snap. And I'm obviously biased. Ignorance and bias makes for great posts, I know. But I'm not sure either of these guys finish AAs. I also like Mich's RB room as a whole more.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:12 AM ^
Henderson is good, don't get me wrong - he is absolutely a guy who can make an amazing steak with Wagyu beef, but we haven't seen him be a guy who can make chicken salad out of chicken shit
January 24th, 2024 at 1:03 PM ^
I saw a story last season talking about how the NFL under values running backs. They showed a drafted player, I believe it was in the 5th round, who was a very good college RB (I can't remember who it was.) and showed his 5th round NFL salary compared to a college player (I want to say it was TreVeyon Henderson but I am not positive, so I won't make the name comparison.) and the college player was making quite a bit more than the NFL player. I'm pretty sure that factored into Blake Corum's decision to return for this season.

LOL at Donovan Jackson and Tyliek Williams being on this list.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:51 AM ^
Donovan Jackson has been so bad that even OSU fans wanted him to declare for the draft. And those guys think any 5 star that goes to Columbus walks on water.
January 24th, 2024 at 12:38 PM ^
I was talking to my Buckeye student and told him their LBs were bad. His response was "but they are 5 stars".
January 24th, 2024 at 10:55 AM ^
Williams is a good player. He's no Graham, but he's a good player.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
I personally did not want to see Williams come back
January 24th, 2024 at 10:55 AM ^
Ollie Gordon is a beast. Deone Walker would of looked nice in Maize and Blue.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:59 AM ^
Kenneth Grant not on the list? Lost all credibility. That guy is going to be a top 10 pick in the NFL draft after next season.
Ask Ohio State if they would rather have Kenneth Grant or Tyleik Williams.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:01 AM ^
I still think an Iowa punter ends up on that list by season's end.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
Brace yourselves before you click on the Will Johnson link.
You'll never believe what he looks like now!

Holy shit. He transferred too? How did I not hear about this?
(Looks like I fell victim to one of the classic blunders: trusting the ESPN links in the original article.)
January 24th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
I do not watch all of the OSU games, but neither Henderson nor Jackson has ever struck me as an All American based on how they have played against Michigan. Harrison, Olave, JSN, those guys, yes. But not these two.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:23 AM ^
OSU really has the most overhyped roster every year. Their incoming transfer safety looks great (developed elsewhere), but some of this is just absurd.
Treyveon is Donovan Edwards minus big plays in actually meaningful games.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:23 AM ^
I just don't see how there will be enough RB snaps at OSU to produce not one but two all-americans.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:29 AM ^
Also have they not seen how Michigan deploys the run game? Hard to imagine Khalil / The Don not challenging for all Big Ten/American/Mr Universe.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:28 AM ^
I think they should remove Denzel Burke and just pencil in UM CB2.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
Can we all just agree here, on this happy space, that we would take our entire defense against this amalgam all-american mashup (minus of course our own players mentioned)…?
January 24th, 2024 at 11:43 AM ^
We will have top 5 O-Line and D-Line in the nation next year. Book it!
January 24th, 2024 at 11:56 AM ^
This is the first year in as long as I can remember where I am in no rush to get to the next season. National Championships tend to have that effect. I'm sure the summer doldrums will have me wishing for the start of the season, but this feeling is still so glorious and I'm soaking in every minute of it!! Remember through all of this; every other team is leaning into the next season for the mere chance to be where we are now :) The view is nice... Go Blue!!

Comedy that both C are for Alabama and their starter was ran out after the rose bowl
January 24th, 2024 at 1:22 PM ^
Pretty funny how after Bama had all those problems with their center (now Ohio State‘s center😂) that they now have the 1st and 2nd team preseason All-American centers on their team. Hope we’ve gotten in their heads.
