Why is LSU on that list? I just can't see the logic in that.

College football is about recruiting, which makes any school in a great recruiting state a fantastic job, especially where there's only one powerhouse school in the state.

I should have been more clear. Why is LSU on that list over, for example, USC? Or even Oklahoma? Both have far more history than LSU. Heck, USC trumps LSU on in-state talent and intangibles (i.e weather, the ladies, etc).

Les Miles has 3.75 million reason$ why this is a good job. In addition, LSU has won two MNC's in the past nine years (and played in another MNC game). That's really all you need to know about the quality of the job.

The Saints could move to Alaska and few people would care. Let LSU get the death penalty and they'll lower the flags at half mast.

You don't say????
December 12th, 2012 at 2:19 PM ^
There are 11 jobs in the Top 10???? Stupid ESPN.

Well, when Rich Rod took the job here he was asked "Why Michigan?", he replied if you asked anyone in his profession to name the top 5 coaching jobs in America, everyone of them will have Michigan. It appears ESPN agrees.

It actually looks like ESPN disagrees.... but I cant count to 5 that well either.
Not enough fingers and toes i presume...
December 12th, 2012 at 2:45 PM ^
Ehhhhhhhhhh I went to colledge
Kinda like one of the colleges on this list.
Of which there are 5
I might not have learned to filter data sets until Jr. High. And since you already passed finger and toe counting, you're past the first grade. I guess that puts you in elementary school.
Does you're mom know you're trolling the internet this uninformed?

*6 colleges are on the list.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
But then I noticed it's a mix of pro and college coaching positions.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
Houston? Is it just because of their patience with Kubiak?

Houston?
Not USC?
December 12th, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
Oh come on. Think of the rich tradition of the Texans.... errr... um how about all their playoff wins... um... they must have won a Superbowl to be on this list.... oh shit...
REALLY ESPN... REALLY!?!
December 12th, 2012 at 2:27 PM ^
I think coaching at Michigan is a much better job than coaching at Oregon State. They should not be tied with us!
December 12th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
Total crap conjecture that's meaningless. I hate lists like this. I'd agree with Packers being #1. Short of that, I don't agree with any of the ordering or even some being ON the list.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:26 PM ^
No Steelers. I think its fair to say you can trade LSU for them..
December 12th, 2012 at 2:26 PM ^
Houston Texans? LOL what?
December 12th, 2012 at 2:26 PM ^
Same info 4 posts down.

Sorry, missed that one. My bad.

This is stupid in so many ways. Just because ND has a good year doesn't mean that's suddenly an awesome job. ND doesn't have nearly the built in advantages of a Florida(which is why Urban chose the Gators when given the choice) or USC or OSU. And as much as I love Michigan, we don't have near the built in advantages of an OSU(better in state talent, no major in state rival) or a Florida (flagship school in a state with a LOT more talent). I guess maybe if you change it to prestiious it makes it better, but then it's impossible to compare prestige between NFL/College Football.
I'd also say it's harder to win in any NFL job than the top college programs because of the diverging philosophies. The NFL is all about parity, while in College Football, it's all about the rich getting richer via recruiting advantages.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
Although ND was on Urbans list of dream jobs, it was never his ideal. tOSU was always his target.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:36 PM ^
by the presence of FSU and Miami. I'd put the top three as Texas, USC (I know UCLA exists, but they don't recruit on anywhere near the same level), and OSU, with LSU having a good argument for #4.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:32 PM ^
Houston Texas is a WTF
December 12th, 2012 at 3:11 PM ^
Although I wouldn't say that the Texans job isn't a great job, but I think there's a number of programs that would belong on this list before them.

December 12th, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
How are Houston and NE on there? The Cowboys, Steelers and probably the 49ers should all be above them. NE with out Brady isn't a great job.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:56 PM ^
As much as I loathe ND, I feel like they are the top coaching job in not just football, but all of sports - despite the pas two decades of average product on the field. I just feel if you ask any football coach which job he could have if he were to pick, it would be to coach the Domers.
My list would go like this:
Notre Dame
Green Bay Packers
New York Giants
Pittsburgh Steelers
SF 49ers
Texas
Alabama
Ohio State
USC
Michigan

that is all ... Go Blue!

I am not sure the Texans are a top job in Texas. I think Texas, Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M are all better jobs.

To be totally unbiased, I'd say the top 3 jobs in college (in no particular order) are Texas, USC and Ohio. I'd put michigan on a short list, but our instate talent is somewhat lacking to be considered one of the best.
Who the hell would want to live in Alabama or Louisiana? And up until about 5 years ago, Bama sucked for an entire decade. LSU was pretty much irrevelant before 2000.
Just more ESPiN shining the SEC's knob.
December 12th, 2012 at 9:42 PM ^
I don't think people would want to live in Oklahoma either

I never knew you could coach both U-M and Ohio at the same time.
December 13th, 2012 at 10:43 AM ^
What qualifies these jobs as a top coaching job? They have a TON of pressure to succeed. I'd rather coach a team like Clemson, Florida (before Spurrier) or LSU (before Saban/Miles) because the pressure is lower, they have some tradition, and in-state talent is amazing.
