as the ESPN 'Outside the Lines' info in the other Nassar thread is sure to disappear from MGoBoard's page one by morning tomorrow: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/really-disturbing-article-nassar-apparently… As putrid and disgusting the Nassar story is, it deserves full examination in the brightest light possible. The only way to prevent it from happening again and again and again is to expose fully all who were involved in the cover-up and the sickening "pass the buck" to dodge blame. Damn to hell EVERYONE who participated in allowing and enabling Nassar to go unchecked all those years as he terrorized so many children and young women!! May they all be locked up in Jerry Sandusky's cell til their dying day!

1. if you're mad about NCAA lack of involvement, you're basically asking that they nuke the gymnastics team. does that seem fair to these girls? I guess they could do something to the AD, but what? this is not a competitive advantage issue so the NCAA can't and shouldn't do much here. 2. This is a big deal. To me, comments like this come across as lacking any concern for victims and instead wanting to damage a rival. it's a bad look. Let's instead hope that law enforcement and regents do their jobs and punish any one involved with actual penalties: prison, firing or both. The NCAA can't do that. 3. the NCAA is powerless in investigations, why would you want them mucking up a very serious and very real investigation and prosecution? 4. The NCAA might be in a weird whistleblower violation for handing down sanctions or penalties because it could directly hurt the victims/athletes. How would it look if a girl says, I'm on the MSU gymnastics team and I was assaulted by the team doctor and the NCAA says, oh ok we will penalize you and your teammates but I can't do anything about the doctor. have a great day! we all like to laugh at the NCAA and rightfully so but please keep them far away from this situation.

Nassar - well, he's going to jail anyway.

Klages - yes, the NCAA could ban her or slap a show-cause penalty on her.  But, now's not quite the time for that.  She very likely WAS negligent as regards Nassar, but no investigation/criminal proceedings have proven that as of yet.  Besides, if she gets charged criminally a show-cause will be the least of her concerns.

Hollis/Simon - see above.  I suppose the NCAA has a "show-cause" as a weapon here too.  But then again, the NCAA didn't even bother to slap a show-cause penalty on Curley or Spanier in the PSU case.  Likely a road they don't go down.

MSU gymnastics - what's the point?  At least in the PSU case, you could argue "high-profile program, hit the school where it really hurts, they'll lose tons of $$$."  Shutting down MSU gymnastics - what does that do?  That's literally a case of handing down a penalty while creating nothing but pointless collateral damage.

Izzo and/or Dantonio getting tied to this (there's the occasional post here thinking this might happen)?  Not impossible, but that seems more like a home-run wish vs. something that's actually likely.

"10 year ban on the entire athletic department from any postseason appearances" Good point.  i bet all those 15 year olds that have been crying themselves to sleep and keeping this dark secret for years will finally sleep well knowing that the football team can't go to the Meinke Car Care Bowl.  Get your priorities straight here.  Your vengence is thinly veiled anger towards the success of their football program.  That is disgusting to me.  Unless more evidence comes out (or i'm missing a connection) you should feel terrible about that opinion.

"Bet the next program that has a problem takes action quite swiftly."  I wouldn't take that bet.  You tell me which scenario Hollis (or any administrator) would prefer:  A. MSU gets postseason bans for 10 years but he keeps making $600k and living a comfortable life.  B. Hollis is fired, drug through the court of public opinion, spends millions on legal fees, is exposed as an awful human being and ultimately arrested and convicted and possibly jailed.  If I'm Hollis, go ahead and bomb the shit out of my program.

While I agree that the NCAA should steer clear of anything that might fall within the purview of a criminal investigation, I think there is a role they need to play here.  I don't buy the notion that there's no issue with competitive advantage behind this whole scandal simply because it involves a low profile, non-revenue sport.

MSU is in the midst of a crescendo of prestige for their revenue-generating sports.  Basketball has been relevant under Izzo for going on 20 years and football under Dantonio for almost a decade.  Is it such a leap to determine that the motivation for the leadership within the MSU Athletic Department to cover-up or look the other way with it comes to Nassar was to protect the overall image and cache that MSU has built in recent years?  If so, then the culture of denial there is no different than that which allowed Sandusky to flourish at Penn State and I think warrants some kind of response from the NCAA.

The NCAA should be in the business of protecting student-athletes and I think the message needs to continue to be sent to Athletic Administrations that any compromise in that department in the cause of protecting their bottom-lines will not be tolerated.  Is it fair to punish athletes for sins of the past?  Probably not, but that's the system we have.  The alternative is to do nothing and simply hope that scandals like Nassar and Sandusky never happen again because ADs suddenly find ethics.

"I don't buy the notion that there's no issue with competitive advantage behind this whole scandal simply because it involves a low profile, non-revenue sport. "  I'm not saying it's because it's a low revenue sport and I'll admit there might be a competive and/or prestige/marketing advantage to being tied to Nassar and the Olympics.  What I don't agree is your next statement about football and basketball's crescendo of prestige and any connection to Nassar.  The scandal unfolding now is not hurting either of those programs so no I don't believe they covered up anything to protect those teams.  It seems like they might have covered up (no solid evidence yet) but I expect that was to protect themselves and/or the programs impacted.  If it comes out that Izzo demanded this be covered up (and the AD agreed) so he can keep a clean image, then holy shit yes let's destroy the entire university.  This would be closer to the PSU situation.

I agree NCAA needs to be in the business of protecting student athletes, but this is just bigger than them now.  Your logic implies that an AD (or anyone in power) will feel more impact (and thus deterrence) if the school gets punsihed than if they lose their job and go to jail.  Do you feel that way?  Would you rather lose your job and be in jail than have your company be penalized?  NCAA might play a role here, but it's much later and much smaller.  I'd rather see FBI, Ingham County, MSU Police, Title IX investigators, and then NCAA.  So far, we have only seen a little bit of the first shoe drop (child porn conviction).  Don't forget, we only know one fact for sure: Nassar is guilty.  We don't know have (I haven't seen) the smoking gun yet.  PSU had emails uncovered that led to arrests, I don't see that here... yet.  It all smells bad, but we have to let it play out more.

Finally, my biggest concern with ncaa is your last comment: "Is it fair to punish athletes for sins of the past?  Probably not, but that's the system we have. "  This is missing the point.  Yes, that's an unfortunate situation but that happens when future Ole Miss players are punished because half the team was banging hookers that Hugh was buying - no one feels bad for players making bad decision and/or cheating.  In the MSU situation, the students would be punished for being sexually assaulted.  Sorry, but that is not ok by me.  in one sentence you want the ncaa to protect the student athletes, but here you want student athletes to be penalized for coming forward with sexual assault.  It's already hard enough for them to come forward with this, don't hang the fact that it could hurt all of their teammates over their head when trying to cope with the fact that they were abused.  that is just crazy to me and is definitely not my definition of "protecting student athletes."

Finally, think of this from the perspective of the victims.  If you were a 15 year old (or the parent of one) that was violated by this scum bag, what justice do you seek?  Are you happy to hear that the gymnastics team can no longer go to nationals (or in your scenario the basketball/football teams received a post season ban)?  Or do you want everyone who hurt you or enabled Nassar to get fired/arrested?  If it's my daughter, i want jail time, not post season bans.

more intoxicating than champagne, for the people at MSU who enabled him.    Olympic photos on the wall, connected to MSU....well the connection is twisted and evil, a pedophile allowed unimpeded access to victim after victim.

This is no warmed up oatmeal! It’s time to get this travesty out in the open for true justice! Too many women have suffered and are scarred for life. The enablers have a moral price to pay.

...I am getting tired of this board celebrating every time a new victim comes forward or new details of this scumbag's antics comes to light.  Seems like some of you WANT to hear about more victims or worse examples of this sick bastard's violation of teenagers.

If you're taking some perverse satisfaction in the fact he happened to be in East Lansing and associated with Little Brother, you can go to hell.
