ESPN's Haney on the coaching search

He says that Harbaugh (either actually) isn't happening and that problems at Michigan are systemic and go beyond coaching. I get the sense that this guy isn't really close to our coaching search, and doesn't know what he's talking about, but judge for yourself.

So your going to say that michigan problem is because RR failing the Defense instead of saying he had no support and he rebuild the offense and Defense coach he hired couldnt put a capable defense on the field. Well It michigan fault for not letting RR hired his own defense coach. Look at Arizona there big difference of comfortable and uncomfortable on who he has to hired.

First, Rodriguez is ultimately responsible for his team's performance in all three phases: offense, defense and special teams. His teams were only relevant on offense. That's on him,

Your assertion that he lacked the requisite support, resources etc. is ridiculous. Jeff Casteel wasn't coming for family reasons and it wasn't finances that kept him away. Rod couldn't make it work with Scott Shafer (such a terrible coach that he's now HC at Syracuse). Well, he is a bad HC, it seems. Not a bad DC though...except with Rod. Similarly, Rod gets GERG...and some beaver. Bottom line, incoherent approach to defense...that's on Rod.

I cannot understand RichRod Revisionists.

I'm curious about your source that casteel didn't come due to family reasons. The general understanding at that time was Michigan did not pay coaches to come. Plus, now our offense is atrocious and we have made a 5 star qb look like a walk on. Rr got better every year while hoke gets worse. Until you show me proof that casteel didn't come for personal reasons that magically where resolved when rr was hired at Arizona, I'm calling bs.

You're calling bs? Ease up with the tone there killer.

Lost Lettermen provides some coverage on this; that Casteel grew up about 2 hours from Morgantown and "cited his family and comfort in West Virginia as reasons for staying"

I think the Rich Rod Revisionists would like to frame his failings in the Defensive and Special Teams phases as somewhow external to him, institutionally driven etc. This is patently ridiculous and particularly given Scott Shafer's ability to work everywhere but with Rodriguez.

As this article notes, Casteel would have taken a significant pay raise to come to Michigan as occurred for all of his assistants (including Barwis, Magee etc.).

"On why he'd come to Arizona after turning down Michigan in 2008: "That's a good question. I just think that things had changed a bit, and I think that it was tiem to move away from West Virginia and move on to this challenge."

Here's a few grains of smelling salts to bring you back from whatever nasty fall utterly removed your memory:  (Courtesy ESPN/GameHQ Post-game Wrap Gator Bowl 1/1/11)....

"The 38-point drubbing was the worst bowl loss in Michigan's storied history and might have sealed Rodriguez's future. His three-year tenure has been tainted by consecutive losing seasons, NCAA sanctions and late-season slides."

Oh, about that getting better every year while Hoke gets worse...

"Michigan lost six of its final eight games....It was hard to tell how much it affected Michigan, which allowed 34 or more points for the eighth time in the last nine games."

When u start at 3-9, it's not saying much to be getting "better" to a 7-5 season with 6 losses in final 8 games and losing by WORST EVER margin of defeat in a UM Bowl Game.  That trend ended, correctly in the majority of fan opinions expressed at the time, with the firing of RR.

"Michigan coach Brady Hoke's seat was so hot  . . . but the ice on which he stands is perilously thin".

I'M CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Is he sitting on a hot seat or is he standing on ice which I assume would be cold?

Discuss.

South Park understands your confusion:

Stan: Wait wait wait wait wait. I thought we were gonna cool his hot heart with a cool island song.

Cartman: No, he has an icy heart.

Kyle: But you can't melt ice with a cool song, r-tard.

Stan: So we have to warm his icy heart with a hot island song.

Cartman: But it's a cool island song.

Kyle: Well then we're gonna end up freezing his hellish heart with a cool island song.

I think it's great that reporters can simply use the words "Sources tell me..." and spew any bullshit they'd like.

Not saying that some of that isn't possible, but I'd love to know who these sources are.

What's left, the irrational expectations of MGoBlog users putting extreme pressure on the coaching staff, that is collapsing under the weight of all our electronic wind? /s

"Things have been looking up for Brady Hoke and Michigan of late. Could the embattled coach be back for the 2015 campaign?"

Sweet baby Jeebus. In what world are things looking up? The fact that we beat awful teams in an awful fashion? This schmuck clearly has only looked at the fact that M has won a couple games and didn't watch any of them.

For as shitty as things have been, I would say that winning 3 out of 4 actually does qualify as things are looking up.  Add in the fact that the much despised Brandon is gone, and they are definitely looking up.

I mean the end result is the same, but at least its a little sunny on the way to our destination now instead of the normal gloom and doom.
