Emil Ekiyor on the verge of decommitting

Submitted by Maizen on

Per the recruiting roundup from Sam this morning as well as an update on his board. Essentially confirms what guys like Wiltfong and Lorenz have been saying for weeks. He'll be at Bama next fall. Another big loss for OL recruiting.

I don't blame him for one second. Bama churns out monsters on its OL and sends them in the first round of the draft every year for the last decade. Their OL lays waste to anyone and everyone in it's path. Our OL struggles to block hapless Purdue and Cincinnatti teams. Our OL has been anywhere from an unmitigated disaster to meh for nearly a decade.

If I'm a completely unbiased OL recruit, and I thought I had a future in the NFL, I'd go to Bama over almost any other school in a heartbeat.

If it is any consolation a guy at work says 2 of OSU's top recruits, Jones a qb and Cox a de are about to decommit and flip to Bama. Bright side is we are only losing one to them.

why don't we put Hurst, Mone and Gary in at RG, RT and right side TE on goal line situations ?  I think with zone blocking they could move the line of scrimmage at least 1 yard.  Then give the ball to the Panda.  Touchdown Michigan !

This is misleading. Did you actually listen to the Recruiting Roundup this morning?

Sam said that Emil is visiting campus this weekend for the Rutgers game with his whole family. He also said that the Michigan coaching staff is now pursuing other interior OL options "so they won't be left holding the bag" but that Emil still has a spot in the class.

Sam closed by saying that Emil has had a committable offer on the table from 'Bama for a while now, so there must be a reason he hasn't accepted it. There was no point in the Roundup where it seemed like Sam was trying to say Emil will definitelty stick with his Michigan committment, but there was also no point where Sam infered that Emil is on the verge of decommitting either. I got the sense that the visit this weekend is important and that Sam doesn't know what Emil is going to do because Emil hasn't decided yet.

Did he post something entirely different from what he said this morning on his radio show? Because that would be odd.

And if that's really the case, don't point to the Recruiting Roundup as evidence that Emil is on the verge of decommitting. Because that is NOT what Sam said on the air this morning.

So visiting campus for the game this weekend, with his whole family in tow, plus Sam's comments this morning that Emil is currently committed but it will be a fight to the finish to keep him in the class... you're just ignoring all of that?

It sounds like you're reading too much into one board post, and should probably change the title of this thread to something else.

Fine. But using "Per the recruiting roundup from Sam this morning" when his Recruiting Roundup didn't actually support the claim you're making seems pretty disingenuous to me. Most people who read that and heard the Roundup are going to think you're just trying to stir up more negativity on the board and it takes credibility away from whatever else you have to say.

I listened to his recruiting roundup this morning and I didn't hear anything that would lead me to believe that Emil is on the verge of decommitting.  Sam simply stated that Alabama is a threat (which surprises no one) and that Emil visited Alabama this past weekend.

Emil is also slated to visit Michigan this weekend.

So...unless Sam has posted something different than what I heard this morning, I didn't really hear anything different than what we've been hearing on Emil...

I think there is real concern about him decommitting. But the minute I saw who the OP was for this post, I sort of dismissed this as the usual "sky is falling, look at me" posts he puts out. As always, sometimes a blind squirrel finds a nut, but it does seem like this is a lot of extrapolation based on some crystal ball moves and people wanting to see truth in ambiguous statements. But I wouldn't be surprised if he left the class, I'm just not sure it's nearly as definitive as this post would have you believe. But maybe that's going to be clearer after this weekend.

I believe this is a very tough time for Emil. I think his heart truly wants to stay committed to Michigan and play with his long time friend Cameron McGrone, who's also from Indiana.

Though his mind is telling him that Alabama might be the best place to go for more success in college football and a better path to the NFL.

How bout they just coach up the kids they get and we stop making excuses? Sparty doesn't ever get top rated classes and they've been kicking ass for a while now.

Not worthy of its thread, but man this guy is pompous ass. Saying JIM Herman is a genius and their 97 D was never out schemed, and he would have had it out with D coordinator for putting his team in a bad spot

Can someone not named Maizen at least confirm that the Scout's board post is as negative as he makes it out to be? His podcast was most definitely not that bleak, and nothing as far as his visit schedule has changed as of the podcast (will be visiting on his own dime with the family for the Rutgers game and official for OSU game).

This isn't even a complete call-out on Maizen, but, well, he tends to spin things with very negative tones at times...

And for all things holy, PLEASE DO NOT TWEET AT EMIL. Whoever was doing that last year nearly cost the commitment of Aubrey Solomon. We thought Aubrey was toast, and he ended up at Michigan. DO NOT TWEET AT RECRUITS ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE BAD THINGS

I wouldn't want to play with this offensive line either right now. No offense to them on their characters and the tough life they live as UM student athletes but this offensive line has been getting it's ass kicked for a decade. This offense doesn't stand a chance against a quality opponent. I see kids for Ohio who are just ripped up from lifting weights and then I see Michigan players and it's like they are starved. Guys like Kyle Kalis and Ben Braden should've been monsters last year for how long they were in school and in that weight program but they weren't. They were candy asses against the big boys. Maybe something is wrong with the weight program? If you cant play with swagger and kick peoples ass by physically dominating them and getting in their head, then you aren't playing the game right. You need bad boys on the o-line who are going to pancake defenders and walk over the top of them for mouthing off. The University of Michigan offensive line are a bunch of candy asses. Plain and simple. Sorry boys but you play like pussies.

January is going to be an interesting month because this year the early signing period from December 20-22 will change it up a bit. There will be some spots taken officially and that may lead to less musical chairs, especially if a 3 star player wants to sign to take a spot he might have gotten screwed on in the past. That means some of the higher ranked players may have to make a solid decision sooner or might want to anyway. Little bit of chess match for players and coaches. Can't wait.

Any top OL prospect is someone no school can afford to lose, least of all us. But it's not like Alabama wasn't always a threat here - even if we're undefeated he's going to take a long hard look at the Tide. However, I don't see why people believe both that Harbaugh has a meritocracy for everything and that Drevno is a poor coach. If anyone is less likely to keep someone who isn't up to snuff than Harbaugh, I'm pretty sure I haven't heard of them. (Even Saban took time to push Nuss out the door.)

Likely means we finish with out a single composite top 100 recruit in the class. Who do we blame in 3-4 years when the recruiting failures in this class hurt us on the field?

When someone pays me $10M a year to worry about it then I'll worry about it.  Otherwise, I'll let the guy who makes $10M a year worry about it.
