Emil Ekiyor Not Visiting

Canceled visit for RU game per Nick Baumgardner. Pretty much confirms his decommitment is near. Big bummer.

While he may not commit to us, this confirms nothing. He could just have cold and couldn't make it for all we know. If he cancels M and shows up at AL then there is something. I think I read he was supposed to show up for OSU game. If that doesn't happen then the chances are bleak.

Without him, we still would have 8 four stars committed and a top 15 class. Do you know how many programs wish that was “a severely lacking” recruiting class? Yes, it is true that Ohio State is annihilating us on the recruiting trail, but that kinda happens when you’re always 11-1 and win the biggest rivalry in college sports 14 out of the last 16 meetings.

For the life of me I cannot understand it at all, as we seem to be recruiting every position on the team well except for the offensive line? Obviously the coaches know this, but I'm still stunned that the results are not panning out well for us at year 3 as this is one of the most, if not the most, important position groups on the field.

He's not coming here. Sam Webb mentioned that he was planning to bring his entire family up for this visit. My guess is that there is a perception with recruits that we are unable to develop OL. Until we can field a quality OL, I fear this perception will continue to manifest itself.

There's a problem with the Ann Arbor water supply that specifically targets offensive linemen.  Apparently everone not connected to Michigan football is well aware of this affliction and uses the knowledge as a very well honed recruiting tool.

My guess! These posts are useless! See Aubrey Solomon. Nobody knows. It's so easy to start pointing fingers! Recruiting is not a science. So what if he doesn't come? The earth will still do its thing. Just keep spinning.

If you are going to lose a recruit, losing a recruit to Bama is fine by me. It’s another thing if Illinois is taking them. Recruiting does involve the decision of a 17-18 yo kid. If he feels Alabama is a better fit then I hope it works out for him. Rather have someone that wants to be here than one who burns out because it wasn’t what they thought.

The debacle in Happy Valley was just the coup de gras.

Ekiyor has made a sensible decision based on the information in front of him: for whatever reason, Harbaugh's OL coaches have yet to prove they can build anything more than a marginally mediocre line. There's no such perception of Alabama's OL coaching.

How do you figure? Teams having it coming off if bad seasons, much less bad games, have good recruiting classes all the time. Just last year- Georgia, ND. Texas is near the top for 2018 and is 3-4. Oregon, Florida (3-3) Florida State (2-5) and Tennessee (yes - TENNESSEE) round out the composite top 10. If losing to a couple good B1G teams was enough for Ekiyor to decommit, he was never staying until NSD anyways. Winning doesn't hurt, but it isn't the end all of recruiting.

The under development of our offense of line, why do top linemen want to take a chance on coming here if they feel that they will not be ready to go pro. Maybe they are starting to see that our offense of line coach is not taking boys and turning them into men who are ready for the pros.

What ever happens, nothing is lost until the kid signs his LOI. Michigan will still recruit him but, yeah, this doesn't look good at the moment.

It is why winning and playing sound football matters. Michigan still can't find consistency and that hurts in recruiting, especially when you are going up against Alabama or OSU

I will add that an article I read said he won a playoff game last night, so while I doubt it's the case, he could simply be tired and not dying to drive up to Ann Arbor for a noon game. He's probably still gone, but it wouldn't be the first time a recruit just didn't come up because of timing. Though I'll admit to being overly optimistic.

He may be a average OL coach, but he has hit his Murphy's Law ceiling - you advance until you reach your level of incompetency.

He is not college material, neither from his limited playbook as OC, nor his recruiting misses that could have stocked a playoff caliber team.

UM's offense will be more of same, until we get a Don Brown caliber OC.
