I am expecting a 2008 Tom Crean/Indiana style rebuild, where its an entire gut and rebuild job.

Considering the toxic environment Howard and the existing players seemed to have created, flushing out everything might just be best for a true reset.

However, with the amount of transfers going out, the inability to get high end transfers to come in, growing pains, and more, next season should be pretty scary bad...like 4-5 total wins bad.

It can get worse.  Who the fuck transfer is coming here next yr to play with Cheddar and... a ghost.  Reed should get the heck out of he wants to have any chance of a future.  Reed Cheddar as your 2nd best player and vaporware is the team.  It's a complete enema.  Thanks Juwan.

Great note. Yep, Crean had to rebuild nearly a full roster (thanks to the shady guy who has since rebuilt Houston) - at least we have the portal to make it a bit faster.

I used to think the 2020 locker room for Football was a toxic mess, but now believe just a few bad apples spoiled the mix and the rest of the woes were transfers and opt-outs. We still had Aidan, Josh Ross, and Hassan who refused to let that happen again in 2021, which led to one of my favorite teams of all time.

I'd personally like Reed and Will to stay around. Even with their limitations, I liked their character and work ethic.

Dug should sign for the bucks (Arizona or Kansas?) since at 5' 11" he's not going far in the pros.

Writing has essentially been on the wall with Dug since this whole suspension went down. Now that his coach is gone, what reason does he have to stick around?

I don't really blame him for wanting a fresh start. Maybe he's not a good student, but this has been a rough year for him and the basketball team at large. He's also got talent, and there will be plenty of programs that could use him. He'll have no shortage of offers, and likely at schools with much more lax academic requirements.

Best of luck to him.

I naively thought Dug would be a 4 year guy for UM and would improve year to year. Oh well. Separately, it seemed like Dug was often responsible for opposing guards getting to the hole with relative ease. I won’t miss that part of his game.

Once he was suspended I sort of assumed he was gone, so not a surprise.  He has some limitations but showed improvements at UM and I suspect he'll be a solid contributor on a team that can hide him defensively.

Good luck to him and whoever else decides some adversity isn’t for them. It’s going to take a year or three to rebuild this program. Buckle up and support the team. Here’s to hoping we get a basketball coach who knows how to coach, and can develop a culture that isn’t toxic.
