Dude, Do You Even Go to Work Anymore? When Was the Last Time You Were At your Normal Place of Business?

Submitted by xtramelanin on April 28th, 2020 at 9:41 AM

Mates,

Curious, when was the last time you went to your normal place of business?  I know some of you/us have been going in regularly, but for others they have been either WFH (true name: Work In Pajamas and I claim the patented acronym: WIP) or have unfortunately been furloughed altogether for some period of time.

So the questions are these:  When was the last time you were at your regular place of work?  Is it going to be weird getting back into a routine that has been disrupted for going on 2+ months?   Do you think  you might wear your PJ's to work by accident?

Hope you and your families are all well,

XM

I'm jealous I had to keep working while the rest of you bastages got to sit home in your pajamas playing Skyrim while "working at home".

My factory is located a few miles away from where all the cooler trailers are parked in Detroit to store corpses from morgue overflow.

I'm at my desk right now. I won't say "working" because I'm a government employee. Nothing has changed here since the outbreak. The dumb thing is, we might be required to wear masks when our building opens back up to general population. I know they're to protect the other people, but apparently protecting the public is more important than our coworkers. Also, the mayor is threatening that we may take a pay cut since we can't shut customers off for non-payment right now and revenue is down. We're all hoping it's a negotiating tactic since this is a contract year.

Enjoy your F-ing PJs everyone!!!!!!

I'm not bitter.

March 13th was my last day. Was working from home and then got laid off on April 1st via google hangout. Will only be back to collect my personal items and return my key fob whenever they’re permitted to be back in the office.

Last Thursday.  I usually go in once a week to take care of some paperwork, or gather supplies for a job site visit.  There's usually only a few people there.

The answers here (which reflect that most have not been negatively impacted financially, let alone, completely lost their job and in fact like working from home) go a long way to explaining some of the responses on the other 1,000 threads.

I think the last day I was in the office was March 12th, but I don't remember for sure. Its been even longer since I was there on a regular basis, because prior to this all going down we were having our bathroom remodeled and I was home with the contractors pretty much every day.

I was already working from home two days a week before this happened, so no huge transition for me. It may be a little weird going back, but only because it is going to be a while before I go back (assuming I'm not picked for layoffs before then). With my wife giving birth in July, I've already told my boss that even if our office opens back up before then, I don't feel comfortable coming back there anytime soon. Simply put, I can't afford to get her or the kid sick. The earliest I see myself back in the office is after my first segment of paternity leave ends, which won't be until late August/early September. Hoping that by then this will have died down enough for me to get back in.

I really do miss the camaraderie of being with the team several days a week.

I travel pretty frequently for work, so it was not uncommon for me to not go into the office for 2-3 weeks at a time anyway. The last time I was in the office was a couple of days after shelter-in-place in IL started so I could pick up a couple of items (headset, webcam, a couple business-related books, etc.).

Before that, it had been about 2 weeks since I had been into the office since I had been traveling. In fact, the IL order was issued a day after I returned from a business trip to TN.

Even now, I at least try to "dress up" a little - or at least my top, anyway - since I am on frequent vid conferences internally and with clients. I do sometimes just wear warm-ups or sweats on the bottom, but usually jeans.

Working from home in t-shirts or long sleeve polos, jeans, and walking shoes since March 16. The last day I went into my office was March 13.

My last day was March 13th.  Im more productive in that basically all of the bullshit of my job is gone. Im “working” less but getting the same amount done.

I read the Bloomberg article the other day and Im not sure whether these people are actually being more productive because they send emails at 3am or are just workaholics who wear crazy hours like a badge of honor

March 17 was my last day in the office. I worked from home until April 2 and then was furloughed. Since that time I’ve been full time stay at home dad and also job searching just in case. My work has a plan in place to bring everyone back (about 50 percent of the office is on furlough) but who knows If that will actually happen. Fun times.

I am a Doctor, I go into work three days a week.   In March it was five days a week, in April my mother in law moved out so I went to three days a week.   People are getting antsy/comfortable so work is getting busier again.  It won't be long until I am back to working four days a week.

March 20th.

Get up everyday at the same time as when I went to the office.  Dress a little warmer as my "home" office is in the basement.  Wife same, except she works upstairs.  So she gets the office with the window and I get more out of the man-cave than I ever thought I would!  Being at home does not bother me...try being on a ship in the US Navy for 3 six-month deployments and you would agree this is a piece of cake. But she is going nuts.

I am betting we go back next week ( I am in Indiana) but I sure will miss shopping at Kroger during senior hours. No Joke.  No worries about PJ's.  Can't work in them. Don't want to, they represent something more fun.

Take Care XM and don't take all the trout since I can't be up there to fish just yet.  But soon, very soon!

Your description of your Governor is very apt I think. Just noticed you were extended for another month. I just bought my non-resident Michigan fishing license and I am going fishing in Michigan this weekend. Do what they will with me.

March 11th.

I work from home 2/3 days a week already, so this wasn't a huge change initially.

I am in the DC area so the real benefit is not having to sit in traffic at least 80 minutes each way.

A retiree's perspective here...I retired a year ago (April 26, 2019) at age 61, so I'm very fortunate to be riding out the pandemic at home without having to worry about my job or what comes next for those who have been laid off, especially those who had employer-paid health insurance, like my neighbor across the street, who was laid off three weeks ago and whose health insurance ends on April 30. A few days ago, the director for planning and coordinating our county's response to the pandemic submitted his updated plan, and then promptly submitted his letter of resignation and announced his retirement, effective immediately! I can't blame the guy, he had to have been working 80 hours a week the last two months while he watched his retired colleagues and family members sitting at home doing nothing, so he probably decided to join them!

To my actual office, mid-March. I drove to work because our recycling was overflowing (work has an on-campus recycling center), but I didn’t go into my building.

Last was in the office in mid-March.

I was working in a company in Asia. I now am unemployed at my parents' house.

Turns out global pandemics suck.

- And yes, I realize that since I have my health, a bed, and food security my situation is still miles better than many -

March 10 Redwings game. I have not worked since all sports were shut down. I live in Troy MI, working in Detroit and travel for college football for ABC/ESPN. I am a freelance camera operator for Fox Sports Detroit and ESPN. Sports might come back in some form, but I don’t think it will come back to Detroit for a while. The teams might go to Florida, Minnesota, Phoenix... And if college doesn’t come back. I don’t know if I will work until 2021. I hope I am wrong, but looking at it realistically. Scary times for me and my family, for 25 years I have been a Camera guy, I love my job but now what? I am thankful that my family is healthy. Be safe everyone. Go Blue!!
