Down go the BIG champs! Ha
Good triumphs over whininess.
Loyola can claim a B1G title now, right? Ramblers '21 B1G Champions!!!
Hang their “Sweet 17” banner!
Only thing better would be for us to now beat Loyola-Chicago in the championship game!
Don't let the floor slap you on the way out!
Double post. Sorry. Got my buzz on a wee bit early to celebrate the illinilni getting bounced
Don't let the floor slap you on the way out
Yep. Teams need to learn not to slap the floor. Nothing good happens after that. That’s when I texted my Illinois fan buddy and told him it was over. He asked “What do you mean?”
Tough to be the best team in the B1G when you aren’t even the best team in Illinois!
I was hoping for a rematch in the national championship game. I guess this is one way for them to duck us.
Hard to believe this team won the Big tournament .
Honestly, I believe they played better with out Ayo in the lineup.
I said this a couple weeks ago and people thought I was nuts. He's a great player but dominates the ball. They played more as a team without him.
He’s going to shoot a lot when he’s out there and if he's off his game, they can struggle. 9 points and 7 turnovers today.
He was forcing a lot today. Credit to Loyola for playing some great defense, but he (and the rest of the Illinois offense) was forcing some plays that just weren't there for a significant portion of the game.
Hard not to conclude this now. When they played us without Ayo we were able to stifle Kofi early with Hunter, but there were too many weapons and they slashed us to pieces.
But Ayo and Kofi are the whole focus when they’re in. And, well, the results speak for themselves.
and yet still be considered for B1G POY...
Some people laugh at this concept, but I think there's an element of truth to it. Ayo is so ball dominant and honestly a stat stuffer. When he's on the court, it's just him and Kofi and those are basically the only two people you need to game plan for. Ayo was awful today and they triple teamed Kofi and that was it for them. Illinois is much more balanced without Ayo
I thought the same thing when they played UM. He dominates the ball and is stoppable with decent D. Curbelo and Miller, as a tandem, scare me more.
I think it is a bit unfair to put this on Ayo. Illinois was a team where the whole was less than the sum of the parts. When that is the case, I think you put that squarely on the coaches for not putting their players in a position to succeed.
They had a lot of great pieces, but never seemed to find the right lineups and scheme. And it's not just Ayo. Cockburn is a black hole that never seems to find 3-pt shooters when doubles come. It is hard to maximize Ayo's game with Cockburn camped out down low clogging the driving lanes. Curbelo too often would alternate between amazing and bonehead play, but either way he is often freelancing and dominating the ball outside the structure of an offense. It almost felt like Ayo would have been better off playing with Bezhanishvili on the floor, and Cockburn with Curbelo surrounded by 3-point shooters.
That's the only time I thought illinois was going to catch up is when curbelo came back in!
Fundamentals are Brad Underwood's kryptonite.
Illinois looked very, very not good.
Let's hope UM looks very, very good vs LSU.
I think it's Sister Jean, anyway, my bracket is done but for all the trash talk Illinois did, not that upset.
Sister Mary Jean haha. It was actually auto correct. I still can’t believe we can’t edit a thread
I'll do an edit on the "content" of your OP.
Ditto
I had Gonzags and Illinois in the final.
My bracket is dead.
I'm happy about it anyway.
I had Illinois and tOSU in my final four, and lil bro in the sweet sixteen. Best $ I ever lost!
Me too! I had three different brackets and all three are toast. I suck at this!
Amazing. Pulling for some Wisky magic now.
All praise to Sister Jean!!!!!
and that is exactly why the NCAA's are the greatest tournament on the planet.
Right behind the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
as much as i have enjoyed the stanley cup over the years, at least when the wings fielded a men's team, the cup just doesn't have the level of chaos and lightning strikes that the NCAA's do. way more random results combined with what i'd describe as the pure (more pure?) joy of college kids on a huge stage.
I agree. I love the Stanley Cup playoffs (at least when the Red Wings are in) but a seven game series is always less dramatic than a single elimination tournament.
Olympic hockey is pretty epic though.
Just pointing out the word always being an absolute-
I'd take a game 7 over a winner take all one game most days of the week.
Back when the Stanley Cup playoffs was played by real men (“men with a pair of balls and a cock,” to use a famous quote from our own Red Berenson) rather than every ticky tack thing being called, it was the best. Maybe not the most highlighty, but the best tournament.
Pundits: "College sports is just big business now, where only those that pay the most and have the most NBA talent (and no academic restrictions/requirements) win."
Sister Jean: "Watch this."
Unlike any other.

Karma’s a bitch
Both B1G title game teams are out.
Wow
Loyola Chicago is the new Big Ten champion!
I don’t think I’ve ever been happier with another team’s loss that blew up my bracket. Except maybe State a few years ago against MTSU...
Or Ohio State's loss to Oral Roberts.
Did you sleep all day Friday? LOL
That one only cost me one game.
