Don Brown Will Have More to Work With at UM
(understated title on purpose)
A quick look at the 'croots B.C. fielded this year as defensive starters shows a significant difference vs what UM coaches are blessed to work with. I knew their classes were mediocre from afar but guy like PJ Fleck is outrecruiting BC at this point. Of the starting defenders in 2015, B.C. had 2 "elite" DL recruits (in their terms) who finished in 247 composite top 600 - that would be say recruit #14 or so of 20 in a typical UM class i.e. Csonte York / Jeremy Clark range.
Outside of those 2, they had a few DBs with rank just over 1000. By comparison, UM did not have a single recruit >1000 in 2012's large class - but Willie Henry became a star in the mid 900s. We do have quite a few >1000 in 2016 class due to #Harbaugh and camps and such but it is a rare thing for a UM class to have more than 1-2 non kickers >1000.
Also worth noting this was not a senior laden group (only 3); B.C. should return a very good defense in 2016. Sometimes CFB unit success at mid tier programs is due to a bunch a seniors dominating a unit -- and then that unit falls apart the next year.... but should not be the case here.
DL
- Harold Landry (So) - #595 (good offer list Aub, Tenn, Indiana, N.C. types)
- Truman Gutapfel (Jr) - #2012
- Connor Wujciak (Sr) - #461 (NJ kid w/ nice offer list of ND, MSU, Pitt)
- Kevin Kavalec (Jr) - #1865 (OH St Ignatius)
LB
- Mattew Milano (Jr) - #1314
- Ty Schwab (So) - #1247
- Steven Daniels (Sr) - N/A JUCO
DB
- John Johnson (Jr) - #1998
- Isaac Yiadom (So) - #1001 (VATech, UConn offers)
- Justin Simmons (Sr) - #1412
- Gabriel McLary (So) - #1011 (FL kid with offers of NC, Ill, AZ)
- Kamrin Moore* (So) - #1058
*Comparing depth chart of Oct to Nov, BC only had one key injuyr to defensive starters. Moore was hurt late Oct - out for season, replaced by McLary.

As an aside "the dude" lingo is all over their program. SB Nation's BC player countdown for 2015 all had titles beginning w/ "Better Know A Dude"....

OKAY. Is their defensive line just a bunch of letters strung together in funny ways?
Gupatfel, Wujciak, Kavalek? Those aren't names.

Perhaps German.

Incorrect. One is Slavic, one is Elvish, and I am fairly sure one is whatever the hell those blue things spoke on Avatar...

If it's German, it means something like "Good Apple," which I can get behind. I too am of the opinion that apples are good, especially a fan of the Pink Ladies.

but the United States is a nation of immigrants who often have names that reflect their heritage and origin. Not everyone has the names "Smith," "Johnson," "Williams," or "Brown." To suggest otherwise is to sound like a xenophobic dipshit.

and Anglicize their names. My ancestor dropped a vowel off the end of our name 400 years ago so we could fit in.
Now to be fair, it didn't really work well.
Oh well, keep your names however you want.

I'm excited to see how Brown is able to use athletes like Dymonte Thomas and Peppers in his blitz happy schemes.

You're not kidding. I can't wait to see the chaos and turnovers this will cause.

I need to get better procedures. My chest tube only translated to dilaudid, lidocaine and although at that point I couldn't comprehend what was in the actual local they gave me, it was pretty spiffy stuff. Still not quite at the level of generosity shown by Jackson's physician. Actually, hopefully anyone found being that generous gets their license revoked as well, in all seriousness.

Steven Daniels had to go JUCO, yes, but he was a 4* before that with pretty decent offers.
December 22nd, 2015 at 5:18 PM ^
Thx, 247 didnt show that at all despite poking around.
I was curious of his backgound as Daniels had an amazing yr - aside from leading team in tackles he had 16 TFL!! and 6 sacks ...as a LB. Wow. Morgan and Bolden combined had 8 TFL and 1 sack.
We need guys w/ that sort of playmaking ability @ LB.

I just can't remember hearing if it was ever confirmed that he was planning to come back.
December 22nd, 2015 at 6:37 PM ^
so the odds are good that he is staying this year.
December 22nd, 2015 at 5:20 PM ^
Fair point but I think we saw improvement in the players where coaches are remaining (DL/DB) @ UM. The unit that stalled (LB) in developing.... well that position coach left.
