Don't Sleep On Joe

Submitted by realblue on September 25th, 2019 at 2:57 AM

Listening to Josh Uche's after practice interview from Tuesday, a couple comments he made about Joe Milton caught my ear (5:10ish mark of interview)

When asked about him, Uche called Milton a "gamer" and said "don't sleep on Joe". I couldn't help but feel like there was something more to that 2nd comment, like Uche was almost acknowledging that Milton has been overlooked, either by the media or maybe (*more importantly) by the coaches. I just found his phrasing interesting.

(Disclaimers)

***I personally am 100% on the McCaffrey train and I wish he was healthy for this week because it'd be a perfect opportunity for him to get his 1st start.

***I'm also 100% over Patterson at this point. Would love to see Milton get a shot at real game action, so... bias

Thoughts on Uche's comments and the QB situation?

i said this last year, i wish they would run plays for shae outside the pocket.  it just seems he is more comfortable and sees the field better outside the hashmarks than inside the pocket.  i guess i would just like more different looks.

By all means, support Milton but at least be up front and admit it's exclusively because you suffer from Next Man Up syndrome.  There has been absolutely NO evidence that Milton is a better option than Shea (and McCaffrey).  Nothing in hs, spring ball, or actual games.  I can't for the life of me see why people are calling for him.  If he was better, he would be playing!

Honestly, the same holds true to a much lesser extent for McCaffrey.  He's fast and can run well, but it's not like he's blown us away when he's gotten snaps.

This is also true, McCaffrey has not looked good at all throwing it in his limited time. 4 or 5 passes that could have been picked on only 19 or so attempts. And I am still  not sold his arm strength is not an issue. I really feel like this is a situation where any hope of a turnaround is going to have to come from Patterson being far better than he has been so far this year. Again, people seem to forget he was the most efficient passer in the big ten last year according to the advanced stats.  I don't think he has reached full broken Devin Gardner status yet.

With McCaffrey out it is likely that Milton will get extensive playing time against a cupcake like Rutgers. It may be that Uche is simply saying Milton is going to do well when given an opportunity. It is extremely unlikely he is advocating for Milton to start ahead of Patterson.

If you wake up he might be throwing an interception as soon as he comes in the game.  Blah blah blah.  Shea is not the guy we still don’t know if Dylan is but at least he is a threat in the run game when he is healthy he needs to play
