DL Coach Rumblings - Board Thoughts?
Like most of the board, I have been searching for rumblings about a new DL coach after Scruggs's resignation. I hope it is a position that can be filled quickly, but the timing is definitely less than ideal.
A few names have popped up.
- Larry Johnson /s /s /s
Listening to Sherrone's comments during yesterday's spring interview was also very interesting. "All hands on deck" for coaching the D-line until a coach is in place.
What other names are on the board?
If you are Sherrone, who are you targeting?
While Johnson is a great recruiter based on name alone, he’s been a shell of a coach for 10 years or so, with his lines grossly underperforming relative to recruiting talent.
You missed the /s after Larry Johnson...
and then the two other /s after that one
I think two /s would mean serious, but three gets it back to being sarcastic. Math.
What is Tim doing these days?
Ryan Osborn
Dude illegally made the 2021 D line really good
Yeah, I'm surprised his name hasn't come up more. Plus he worked with Moore...
EJ Holland tweeted something about Ryan Osborne. Currently a Ravens defensive assistant. Former Michigan staffer.
How does this continue to be repeated?
Osborn is not a Ravens coach. He hasn't been since 2022. He is the DC for Biff at Charlotte and was all last season
Bc the Ravens official website has him listed as such (I now know that's inaccurate, but it was the top google result when I searched his name) ...
Osborn is currently Biff Poggi's DC at Charlotte. But of course he has Ravens connections. The Harbaugh brothers loved to swap talent.
Hey John...you need you boy Macdonald to get some DC experience send him my way. You can have him back when you need him.
Hey Jim...this guy Jesse Minter worked for me. Really a great young talent. Run, don't walk, to hire him.
Hey John...thanks for taking my boy Jay and helping him get his feet wet in coaching. But I need him now in Ann Arbor.
Hey Jim...you got a young coach who needs coaching up? Osborn you say? Send him my way. You can have him back if you need him.
Minter was the DC at Vanderbilt when Harbaugh hired him.
"worked"
As in, previously.
mason grahams father/brother/3rd cousin?
His HS wrestling coach. Just teach all our boys whatever he taught Mason.
Osborn is currently the DC for Biff. Curious if he would make the jump to better program but lesser role .
Has anyone heard anything about Jerry Montgomery recently? He was a regrettable loss when he left for Oklahoma some years back. Not sure there is a connection to Sherrone, but ?
Doubt the Patriots brand new DL coach wants to come back down to the college ranks
Maybe they could tell him about the Michigan Difference?
Jamison. It should've been him the first time.
I never understood the Scruggs hire, just trusted Moore.
I kinda wish he'd tap into the Michigan or OU community a bit. Brandon Moore, the new head coach at San Diego was a National Champion DL at OU, played in NFL for 8 years, and seems to be a rising star.
Moore is a head coach (albeit at FCS level), so why would he want to be a position coach?
If Moore does well there for a few years, he'll certainly move up the ranks to a MAC level HC job.
Why did Lunquist leave Buffalo for Bama? Why did Chip Kelly leave UCLA?
It happens. But those are outliers.
Plus with another Moore to go with Sherrone Moore and Derrick Moore, that could be the new Hill, Green, Hill-Green thing!
Who is this Rumblings? Sounds like a good name for a dl coach.
HOKE
HOKE
HOKEHOKE
H O K E
Ben Mason
Coach Rumblings, Coach Gutfeeling, and Coach Hearsay are all definite maybes.
Brady Hoke is available
Let’s do this. Give Scruggs’ salary to Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant as NIL. Make them their own coaches and the money makes them stay another year. Job done.
Hopefully Moore can get Terrance Jamison because of his resume. It could also solidify a commitment from DL Jaylen Williams who is from IL.
