Dinich: B1G response "coming early this afternoon"
November 10th, 2023 at 11:03 AM ^
You'd start with $25,000.? You're freer with money than I am, we've probably already incurred 100k on legal fees because of their BS actions.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:37 AM ^
Fuck, even Joey Galloway said to let due process take its course here.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:50 AM ^
He said it because he knows Michigan is going make things hard on OSU.
My brother has a former Buckeye player as an employee. He said Day is nuts to do this because OSU wants no part of opening up”
November 10th, 2023 at 8:57 AM ^
I am afraid that it is out of their hand now. Other Big Ten schools would be very happy to see them taken down.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:30 AM ^
And he's a Moron
November 10th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
I'm seeing the same unfortunately. Petiti is pissed that Michigan won't accept a fine. The injunction is ready. I'm wondering how will the Big ten respond to a successful injunction. Do they retaliate and ban us from the title game?
November 10th, 2023 at 10:14 AM ^
If you issue a penalty to resolve a situation, and then escalate it to a greater penalty when the penalized party disagrees, that is called retaliation and would be the dumbest possible move by Pettiti. So it seems on brand for him.
November 10th, 2023 at 10:30 AM ^
They sic their refs on us.
But would we even notice the difference?
November 10th, 2023 at 8:11 AM ^
That is BULLS***! Unless it is some decision to punt it or levy a fine (which UM should still fight). If they say they are suspending him that is unreal!
Enough now...it's time to fight like UM has never fought if this is a suspension. Not only is it the wrong thing to do but it would be done in a purposefully foul way.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:12 AM ^
Could also be the proverbially Friday afternoon news drop that Big Ten says they are doing nothing for now and need more time which will make a lot of the mob upset. Friday afternoons are the best time to drop things like this.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:13 AM ^
I think the most probable event here is a much smaller consequence if any at all, any response paired with a “we will respond to the completed NCAA investigation” type response.
As others have observed, a nuclear attack like a suspension would not be a good look as the team is leaving for the game. People have suggested that Pettiti has disregarded optics, but that’s not entirely true, and further he did not *publicly* float an indefinite suspension. That was a media leak, just as most of the other details have been media leaks.
My best guess is that the B1G recognizes that continuing to fuel the scandal is a bad idea, and giving it oxygen over the weekend is also bad. Better to close up the conference end of it before the weekend’s games and let an important matchup happen on the field.
Hopefully. We’ll find out.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:18 AM ^
I sure hope you are right because if they suspend him right when they are "wheels up" that is the biggest piece of flaming sh** I have ever seen. Talk about running a total amateur clown show. I was never in the "leave the BIG" line of thinking but to be honest if that happens today, the BIG is letting you know what they think of UM...we need to GTFO.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:33 AM ^
That's how I see it as well.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:45 AM ^
You're giving him too much credit. If he even said to one person that "indefinite suspension" was on the table, he is no doubt a moron.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:32 AM ^
I'm with you. Petitti is not smart. Basing his 'gotta act NOW!!!' approach on just the four pieces of "evidence" described in Michigan's response indicates that when offered the option between the obviously right choice...and a really dumb one...he probably chooses the dumb option.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:15 AM ^
The optics of a suspension announcement less than 24 hours from kickoff of a top 10 matchup would be horrible and a huge mistake, on Petitti.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:17 AM ^
If this isn't moving on completely or a nothing fine, then this man is dumber than he looks. And he's looked pretty damn dumb throughout this.
"But he's a Harvard Law grad! He must know what he's doing here!"
Harvard Law grads can, clearly, be pretty fuckin dumb too.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
fuckin arrogant and dumb!
November 10th, 2023 at 9:09 AM ^
I think history has proven IVY league graduates can be really dumb! Dan Wolken can spin that yarn all he wants. Plenty of proof to go against that claim.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
If it’s a fine, does anyone know if M can pay it “under protest” or something so that it resolves the Big Ten’s allegations without admitting fault?
November 10th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
It's only going to be as big of a deal as your next move, Petitti..don't let these crybaby B10 coaches gas you up.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
"Big Ten Response" could mean a wide range of things from a punishment (suspension or fine) to a press release that Michigan's response was received and will be considered in a formal investigation as they gather more information or wait for conclusion of NCAA investigation.
I still have a hard time believing the new commissioner will want to be taken to court by one of his members in his first year, but the response to this whole thing has surprised me.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:41 AM ^
Yes, it is true that 'response' by early afternoon does not foreclose the response being an announcement that the Big Ten will wait until after the NCAA process has concluded.
However, the rumblings from the edge of the internet indicate that Petitti is angry and that the response will be substantive.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:49 AM ^
Letting one's emotions guide decisions like this is definitely a sign of a true professional and talented leader.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:06 AM ^
That would be insane. I mean, this whole thing is insane. But that would be insane.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:25 AM ^
"But that would be insane."
Expecting rationality and common sense from somebody who called this "the worst scandal in Big Ten history" is a risky proposition.
So far, Petitti has shown zero indication that he's capable of calmly and objectively evaluating the evidence and the claims. It appears that he's a small man whose ego is easily bruised, and people like that are the very worst in crisis situations.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:26 AM ^
Well, anything coming from the “edge of the internet” is probably pretty insane.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:35 AM ^
The edge of the internet refers to something specific that, on occasion, provides legit and useful intelligence, notably during the process of hiring Harbaugh.
I don’t usually check it, but it’s a slow morning in dispatch and I just tracked it down. It’s an isolated comment from someone who has not otherwise offered any inside info but states he has “reasons” for believing that Pettiti “isn’t backing down.” He doesn’t appear inclined to provide bad info, but his post is rather vague.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
Sort of. Edge of the Internet gives more info than that... You have to rummage around a bit deeper to find it...
November 10th, 2023 at 9:37 AM ^
Yes, it would be insane. But...at every turn Petitti has chosen the insane option, from the crazy 13 school Zoom, to 'I am considering indefinite suspension.' to 'here are the four pieces of "evidence"....
Now, it remains possible that some smarter people have gotten to Petitti in the last 24 hours and he may choose the 'not insane' option. But...if past is prologue....
November 10th, 2023 at 9:23 AM ^
if he's angry, he's even stupider
grow up Tony
November 10th, 2023 at 9:31 AM ^
He should absolutely be angry. Angry at the hypocritical mob that convinced him to put his job on the line and drag the conferences reputation through the mud. He should also be angry with himself for letting the inmates run the asylum.
November 10th, 2023 at 10:23 AM ^
Is Pettiti an actual child? How does someone who acts purely off of emotion reach such an elevated position?
And if this is who the B1G thinks best represents them, then the conversations with other conferences should start in earnest. Or go independent. But if you are clearly being colluded against, and one of the parties to the collusion is the head of the organization, then you would be insane to just sit there and take the punishment, knowing that you will never get a fair shake from the conference.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
Cowards way out, They had plenty of time yesterday to figure this out. They want michigan to lose so this isnt an issue.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:20 AM ^
They waited until today so we don’t have access to a court house …. It will be a huge fine and a one game suspension.
November 10th, 2023 at 10:25 AM ^
Ex parte court hearing. Court house doesn't have to be open for a judge to hear the injunction. If that were the case, all anyone would have to do is file whatever they want right at the end of the day prior to a holiday.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
The main key here is "Response". It could be anything...
November 10th, 2023 at 10:35 AM ^
Yeah, it could be "We are taking more time to evaluate the situation."
If I was Pettiti, this is what I would say every Friday until the end of January.
Do nothing. Just let the issue die.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:22 AM ^
Finally found a guy that has less of a brain than Congress !!!!
November 10th, 2023 at 8:23 AM ^
I was reading RCMB yesterday and some were suggesting they would quit watching football if we didn't get postseason ban or death penatly... bye Felicia!
November 10th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
Based on their attendance, it looks like most quit before this story even broke to begin with.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:27 AM ^
They also think Corum and Stallions are running a money laundering scheme with the vacuums and the LLC. They are fucking crazy over there.
November 10th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
I've spent some time over there since the drop of the Tugger news. That place is an absolute cess pool. The majority of sane MSU fans think so as well. You're better off just avoiding.
November 10th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
I have 49 reasons to not care what RCMB thinks, and 0 reasons to care. We could have spotted them 48 points and the outcome would not have changed. Spoiler alert - it isn't about the signs.
November 10th, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
They've already quit watching their own football but wow not watching us that would be something. Their hatred of us would not allow it.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
Heather and Paw gonna be disappointed
November 10th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Hater and Paw*
November 10th, 2023 at 8:27 AM ^
I find it hard to believe they’ll suspend Harbaugh at this point. Wouldn’t be fair to the players who they say they want to “protect” to suspend their coach essentially as they take off to happy valley. It will be a Friday news dump that reads “B1G fines and reprimands Jim Harbaugh”.
November 10th, 2023 at 8:30 AM ^
One of the cases that the coaches have made is that this has made them change preparations for games…so a last minute suspension would go over very well with the other Big Ten schools
November 10th, 2023 at 8:57 AM ^
I think it's pretty clear they don't give a shit about the players. Michigan's or anyone else's. They just care about appeasing Ryan Day.
