Dinich: B1G response "coming early this afternoon"

Submitted by Communist Football on November 10th, 2023 at 7:46 AM

Via Twitter.

sources indicate a Big Ten response is coming early this afternoon. Michigan leaves at 1 and flies midafternoon out of Detroit after getting through security checks, per usual routine.

That is BULLS***! Unless it is some decision to punt it or levy a fine (which UM should still fight). If they say they are suspending him that is unreal!

Enough now...it's time to fight like UM has never fought if this is a suspension. Not only is it the wrong thing to do but it would be done in a purposefully foul way.

Could also be the proverbially Friday afternoon news drop that Big Ten says they are doing nothing for now and need more time which will make a lot of the mob upset. Friday afternoons are the best time to drop things like this.

I think the most probable event here is a much smaller consequence if any at all, any response paired with a “we will respond to the completed NCAA investigation” type response.

As others have observed, a nuclear attack like a suspension would not be a good look as the team is leaving for the game. People have suggested that Pettiti has disregarded optics, but that’s not entirely true, and further he did not *publicly* float an indefinite suspension. That was a media leak, just as most of the other details have been media leaks.

My best guess is that the B1G recognizes that continuing to fuel the scandal is a bad idea, and giving it oxygen over the weekend is also bad. Better to close up the conference end of it before the weekend’s games and let an important matchup happen on the field.

Hopefully. We’ll find out.

I sure hope you are right because if they suspend him right when they are "wheels up" that is the biggest piece of flaming sh** I have ever seen. Talk about running a total amateur clown show. I was never in the "leave the BIG" line of thinking but to be honest if that happens today, the BIG is letting you know what they think of UM...we need to GTFO.

If this isn't moving on completely or a nothing fine, then this man is dumber than he looks. And he's looked pretty damn dumb throughout this.

"But he's a Harvard Law grad! He must know what he's doing here!"

Harvard Law grads can, clearly, be pretty fuckin dumb too.

If it’s a fine, does anyone know if M can pay it “under protest” or something so that it resolves the Big Ten’s allegations without admitting fault?

"Big Ten Response" could mean a wide range of things from a punishment (suspension or fine) to a press release that Michigan's response was received and will be considered in a formal investigation as they gather more information or wait for conclusion of NCAA investigation.

I still have a hard time believing the new commissioner will want to be taken to court by one of his members in his first year, but the response to this whole thing has surprised me.

"But that would be insane."

Expecting rationality and common sense from somebody who called this "the worst scandal in Big Ten history" is a risky proposition.

So far, Petitti has shown zero indication that he's capable of calmly and objectively evaluating the evidence and the claims. It appears that he's a small man whose ego is easily bruised, and people like that are the very worst in crisis situations.

The edge of the internet refers to something specific that, on occasion, provides legit and useful intelligence, notably during the process of hiring Harbaugh.

I don’t usually check it, but it’s a slow morning in dispatch and I just tracked it down. It’s an isolated comment from someone who has not otherwise offered any inside info but states he has “reasons” for believing that Pettiti “isn’t backing down.” He doesn’t appear inclined to provide bad info, but his post is rather vague.

Yes, it would be insane.  But...at every turn Petitti has chosen the insane option, from the crazy 13 school Zoom, to  'I am considering indefinite suspension.' to 'here are the four pieces of "evidence"....

Now, it remains possible that some smarter people have gotten to Petitti in the last 24 hours and he may choose the 'not insane' option.  But...if past is prologue....

Is Pettiti an actual child?  How does someone who acts purely off of emotion reach such an elevated position?

And if this is who the B1G thinks best represents them, then the conversations with other conferences should start in earnest.  Or go independent.  But if you are clearly being colluded against, and one of the parties to the collusion is the head of the organization, then you would be insane to just sit there and take the punishment, knowing that you will never get a fair shake from the conference.

I was reading RCMB yesterday and some were suggesting they would quit watching football if we didn't get postseason ban or death penatly... bye Felicia!

I find it hard to believe they’ll suspend Harbaugh at this point. Wouldn’t be fair to the players who they say they want to “protect” to suspend their coach essentially as they take off to happy valley. It will be a Friday news dump that reads “B1G fines and reprimands Jim Harbaugh”.
