OU fans are saying that they have a hyped 5 star freshman - Jackson Arnold - who is expected to be the starter next year. Gabriel, apparently is not quite good enough to meet their requirements, so he saw the writing on the wall.

Article I just read said that he went through Senior Day festivities and wasn't expected to return. Seems like OU is going all in on Jackson Arnold (who was very highly rated).

Mississippi State has to be considered a possibility given that's where his OC just went. Gabriel is from Hawaii so maybe he goes out west to be a little closer to family?

I remember watching the Final Four last year with surprise teams like FAU and SDSU and being like "wow good for them developing a strong team that probably was years in the making and this one class changed the trajectory" just to find out basically all players of note on those teams started elsewhere. It's beginning to get that way in CFB especially at QB.

If there was a 12-team playoff this year, here are the starting QBs and just see how many are transfers (I know technically Liberty would be in over Oklahoma, but for this exercise just going to use the top 12 teams).

1. Michigan- JJ McCarthy (Michigan recruit)

2. Washington- Michael Penix Jr (Indiana transfer)

3. Texas- Quinn Ewers (OSU transfer)

4. Alabama- Jalen Milroe (Alabama recruit)

5. Florida St- Jordan Travis (Louisville transfer)

6. Georgia- Carson Beck (Georgia recruit)

7. Ohio State- Kyle McCord (currently in the portal)

8. Oregon- Bo Nix (Auburn transfer)

9. Missouri- Brady Cook (Mizzou recruit)

10. Penn St- Drew Allar (Penn St recruit)

11. Ole Miss- Jaxon Dart (USC transfer)

12. Oklahoma- Dillon Gabriel (UCF transfer and currently in the portal)

Welp. Ohio driving a Honda was a one year aberration. McCord is in the portal as well. He's been informed to make his money now while he can and thanks for the memories.

There's a lot of good QBs in the portal now and Ohio will pay more than anyone.

I think that if kids get profit sharing and are getting paid in some form, as harbz says they should, then they should enter contracts to play. This is becoming College FBs Jump the Shark moment... its just too much shit going on and becoming an utter mess.

That said, of all the names I've heard, this is the most intriguing to bring in. After winning a natty - YEAH, A NATTY - hopefully we can pick the right fit.

I don’t understand this one. Isn’t Oklahoma going to the SEC next year? So with that and the 12 team playoff, where is he expecting to go to get more coverage or opportunity?

It isn’t about opportunity to play for lots of these guys, or opportunity to compete for a championship.  The system is now in place where if you have a solid year and you are not a sure fire NFL prospect, you can fund a solid retirement account by going to the highest bidder once or twice.  E.g. I suspect Day wanted McCord to stay and McCord would prefer to stay.  But he and his family probably said they would like $1.5M for this season from the collective and were told no.  In this way, the fans have a huge effect on the team because they partially fund the collective.  It would suck to have to try and manage a roster now.

Seeing all of the transfers and portal talk, one thing that stands out for me regarding the success of our team over the past few years is the striking lack of impact transfers out.  Aside from Cade and All (Cade had been decidedly been passed by JJ who most people had dubbed a future superstar and All just seemed salty that he was losing snaps to freshman Loveland).  Aside from those two, I can't really think of an impact player transferring out in the past few years . . .
