This past week I was very proud of our university for the way they banded together and fought. Now .. not so much. Regardless of what has happened behind the scenes to cause this, from the public eye it's embarrassing how Michigan just rolled over. It's just so disheartening as a life long fan and alum. All the reasons I've been reading of why the B1Gs actions were so egregious have been disgustingly overturned. The B1Gs smug statement also just turns my stomach.

If this assertion is true and the Regents gaslit their own administrative leadership under such public and exlposive circumstances.. To me it only suggests the Board of Regents were in on the job and want Harbaugh gone as well.

I'm really not sure how else you could rationalize why a Board of Regents would allow their President, AD, football coach and distinguished alumni of the media stand so vehemently on the soap box for what looked like a noble cause.

Why the absolute fuck would the Regents gaslit their own institution like that unless they've been subverting the cause all along because they want to see Harbaugh gone.

Absolute gutless and delusional leadership if true.

Regents aren’t empowered to circumvent the administration and settle legal matters. Stop grasping at straws. The school settled for the reason anyone does: because the alternative seemed worse.

This is so stupid if true.  If this was the BoR's big backstop plan when things got too real, they should have offered up Warde as the chopped head two weeks ago.  The Big Ten has been clear they have nothing on Harbaugh and are working to punish the Athletic Department, as much as they clearly want Harbaugh to suffer.

This is a political hit.  The correct response is to offer up a valuable looking head, not an actually valuable head, and say sorry that we had one crazy rogue on staff for a while as loudly and widely as possible, like in live TV press conferences.  Shying away from a camera because of the NCAA investigation is stupid as well.  You can call a press conference and talk anytime you want, just don't say "NCAA" and you are good.  "We scoured into our program with a fine toothed comb because we felt like it and discovered Stalions acting alone.  This is unacceptable and the department takes responsibility, which is why we are removing our Athletic Director as of today."  Nipped.

The fact that we're now here, having been well played by the Big Ten, is infuriating.  But it's hard to see it staying even this good.  We're assuming that there is any chance that Petitti will mount the same stage as Harbaugh to hand him a trophy in two weeks?  That image is a fool's hope.  There has to be either a knife twist waiting for us or a huge U-turn coming.  I'm betting on the knife twist.

I've been through litigations, and I know what you mean but --

Here the settlement and what happens if you lose look similar so far.

Also, there are some orgs that take a longer view and have a corporate policy never to settle.  Grind it out to the end, even if you lose.  Because they know establishing a habit of settling makes you an easier mark compared to someone knowing that, if they come after you, they are going to have to go the whole distance.

In this case, regardless of who knew what, this whole thing is bullshit.  Even if all the coaches knew about it, and Michigan paid for it, and it was an intentional program, in-person scouting was not done (unless CMU/MSU).  Transgressed "spirit of the rule"?  Sure you can argue that -- but it is then also transgressed by what other teams do routinely, apparently without any concern by anyone.  And the historical penalty for violating actual in-person scouting (Baylor) was staffer who did it was suspended for half a game.

I hope that this is not Michigan administration being embarrassingly weak, rolling belly up and whimpering submissively.

Regardless, after all of this horse shit, Michigan should leave the Big 10.

How can you stay in a conference where you are subjected to mob rule, given outrageously disproportionate penalties, imposed without due process, and a conference that gives a decision to a yellow journalist of an opponent team first, then to you while you are on an airplane to a game, on a federal holiday Friday?  You can't tolerate that level of them shafting you.  Not unless you want to take it more times in the future for whatever trivial thing comes along.

I’ve been there. Excellent case on my part and I felt 💯 % willing to destroy both of us rather than give up. But my lawyer is saying things like, “you could lose” and “how much time and $$ are you willing to spend?” He thought my chances were good too, but it’s still a risk to go to court andI legit started to get nervous even though I knew I was right. So I settled for less than what I thought was fair but enough to pay my lawyers and put everything behind me. It’s a completely different situation than this TRO, except for the part that I knew I was in the right, but I also knew that I could lose, and losing to that punk was worse than settling.

I also really needed to stop paying lawyers, since I didn’t have much extra $$ at the time. Maybe coach decided he needed to stop spending time on this. I know he said he wanted to talk but when it comes down to it, if you’re dealing with court on Friday then you aren’t coaching on Friday. And if the B1G is threatening you with more grief, it might be better for the team and program to get through this season and look at options in the future.

And if we find out that the regents did something unforgivable then at least we get to elect some new regents. (And I'm seriously considering a run.)

I doubt the regents did this behind everyone’s back. Harbaugh and Michigan must have not had a good chance to win the case. Settle now to avoid further punishment and distractions. Michigan football controls their own destiny. All of the team goals are still on the table. Win the big ten title and national championship. Look for another conference when the opportunity presents itself. Plus Harbaugh can be on the field for all of those events. He can also prepare the team as normal, just can’t be on the sidelines for the two games.

I don't think so.

Bullshit like this has caused many people of a particular personality type to do the opposite of give in and move on.  The "You want to come after me like that?  OK, now I'm fighting you to the very end." type of person.

I think Harbaugh is that type of guy.  "Harbaughs never forget."

Sure glad we hired that badass law firm W&C—they sure put the Big Ten in its place. Tony Pettiti is really quivering in fear now.

Malone: You said you wanted to know how to get Pettiti. Do you really want to get him? You see what l'm saying? What are you prepared to do?

Michigan: Everything within the law.

Malone: And then what are you prepared to do? If you open the ball on these people, Michigan, you must be prepared to go all the way. Because they won't give up the fight until one of you is gone.

Michigan: l want to get Pettti. l don't know how.

Malone: Here's how you get Pettiti: he makes an accusation, you file a lawsuit. He suspends your coach, you send your binders to the media! That's the Chicago way! And that's how you get Pettiti.

Now, do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that?

Michigan: Nah, on second thought, we don't really have any binders. I'm out. Bye.

Word on OSU site is that CMU coaches sang like birds to protect themselves and implicated two UM coaches. BIG was going to hearing with that evidence. So UM caved.

Just passing on information and trying not to be argumentative.

The OSU poster has been super accurate, and claims source is BIG broadcast partners.   For example, they said no 2 game suspension settlement was in works when there were rumors that was happening.  Same poster says Jay knew, which may explain why Jim caved.

I've always thought a body like the board of regents job was to govern not transact.  That is they do things like review and approve large contracts, but they don't enter into those contracts directly.  So, either I don't understand their role, they over stepped or this is not the complete story.

If they wanted to shut this down, it seems like they would have done so before Michigan filed.  By delaying, it cost the university both time and reputational damage.  In short, they failed at their duties.

My (hopeful) theory is the regents have decided we will be leaving the big ten, citing this egregious breach of governing rules as an out for the current contract.

That would be a bigger fight and that is the only way this makes sense to me.

are regents elected?

If not that or some other substantial plan/action/evidence we don’t know about: Vote out anyone who voted for kowtowing to Tony Tyrant.
