Interesting move in starting Gray over 18-6, 2.65 ERA regular season Colon.  I am going to miss Iglesias and hope that Peralta's defense doesn't cost us.

I predict Tigers roll 5-1. Thoughts? Predictions?

Aside from the JV move tonight, Leyland had a great series. Inserting Peralta at the right time, using Max in relief and getting runs from all his pinch hitters. Tip o' the cap to the Skip.

because he is starting Anibal Sanchez who has been the Tigers' best pitcher this season at Game 1.  The Tigers have 3 legit Aces on the staff. Most would kill for one....

Leyland, I was wrong on JV! It's great to  see him looking like the JV of  old. Bodes well for next year as well.

win it all please. I'm used to this, we can't beat a team with 2 great starters in a series. Taking pitches against great pitchers is a bad method, I don't agree with our hitting philosophy....not making excuses as its our moneyball philosophy, take pitches and get high obp but its flawed against great pitchers. Win it all please.

Though Moneyball is more about identifying undervalued players and acquiring them for cheap than it is about OBP, there is no question Oakland spearheaded the OBP craze in MLB.

The problem with emphasizing OBP over all other things is exactly what you said.  It usually fails against elite pitching in playoff baseball.

Over the course of a long season, playing for high OBP tends to work.  But when you get into playoff baseball, and a team can just keep sending elite pitchers at you, trying to sit and draw walks is not going to work.  Elite pitching usually beats elite hitting, but it does so even more when the hitters are waiting for the pitchers to walk them.
