It's dumber than that because it's conflating the conference accusations with the NCAA's. The specific activities of CS are under investigation as a possible violation of NCAA rules. The conference investigation is about a more nebulous concept of fairness. So in a response to the conference, it is ENTIRELY appropriate to discuss what other teams did, as competitive advantage is the most important ingredient in the concept of fairness at a hight level.

Michigan's response to the NCAA is not yet known. But that is where you'd want to get into the more granular elements to dispute the credibility of early reporting. Given the obvious bias toward sensationalism of the early reports, I would expect more nuance or plausible deniability to appear there.

Too bad Twitter is such a cluster right now (thanks Elon!) I can’t see any of the latest Dan Wetzel tweets - seems like Tom Mars has spoken out now too. Anyone able to thread that here?

I think he will suspend Harbaugh indefinitely and deal with the legal fallout.  That seems like the solution that will please the most people.  Which seems to be how he conducts himself.

Suspending Harbaugh is the easiest thing to do.  Not the right thing to do.

Just curious. We know Connor bought tickets to a lot of games. We know of one guy who said he took pics and left at halftime because, why not? Other than that, where is the video or photographs to show what was actually filmed? The B1G is going to do a major injustice to due process if the only actual footage of stolen signals they have is what SI published yesterday.

Others have said something similar but I really think Petitti thinks this is the only outcome that has a chance to save him.  If he knows Michigan is going to get an injunction approved so Harbaugh continues coaching, he suspends Harbaugh for whatever period of time, which appeases the other 13 schools.

Of course all that really does is potentially buy him time because it sounds like Michigan will go scorched earth on the Big Ten in response which will then sink him.  There was no obvious solution for him.

If this sounds like I'm defending Petitti, I'm not.  The obvious solution is to do the right thing.  What he wants to do is protect his power, but there's no way to do that at this point.

Why haven’t we released the dossier on all of Ohio’s and others’ transgressions? It would make much more strategic sense to  release that info ahead of our response to the Big 10 rather than after. At the very lease we should definitely do it before the conference announces its sanctions. Time is of the essence!

The best thing Pettit can say at this point is something like this

"I've taken the time to listen to the concerns voiced by our members regarding these allegations.  After strong consideration, I find it best to defer to the NCAA and their findings on this situation.  As always, we want to make sure ALL of our institutions are abiding by the rules set forth and agreed upon.  "
