David Shaw out at Stanford. Could they come after one of JH's assistants?

David Shaw is out at Stanford.

I would not be surprised if they call Jim to help them with the search. Perhaps recommending one of his assistants or someone from John's staff.

True enough, they could.  This is a first world problem and one that we’ll certainly hear about all off season.  It stinks to lose top assistants but Harbaugh has proven extremely adept and bringing in good replacements.  Top people want to work for bosses that grow and promote, so in a way it also helps to get poached.

Already posted.

And usually you go away from whatever you were before.

I'd expect them to go with a hot name at OC. I suppose that could've been Gattis last year, but again, I'd think they go away from the Harbaugh well and try to do a 180.

Alex Goelish at Tennessee is a random name that comes to mind.

Lots of coaching jobs are open every year, including NFL ones, I see no reason why we should be extra special scared of Stanford in particular wanting our coaches.

edit to add: Also they suck so it doesn’t seem like a great career move.

Was inevitable, but I'm sorry to see him fail. Shaw is a super high integrity guy, really open and thoughtful in interviews. Did everything the right way...until he stopped winning.

His first few years post-Harbaugh he seemed like the perfect successor, but it was clearly time for him to go.

I don't have any connection to Stanford (other than proximity), but I always root for schools that prioritize academics. Would love to see Stanford and Cal become more competitive - NW too. It's good for the sport when non-football factories succeed.

And as for how this impacts us - maybe Shaw is a possible assistant candidate? Smart guy, knows Harbaugh and his system, can recruit fertile NorCal.
