Dave Wannstedt Just Put Michigan on "Upset Alert" vs. MSU; Michigan now Virtually Guaranteed to Win

Submitted by FauxMo on

On "BIG Football and Beyond" on BTN, Wannstedt first said we are on "upset alert," then flat-out predicted MSU will win. Based on Wannstedt's coaching resume, this guarantees that Michigan will win in a blowout. FYI Dave, Don Brown also has a better "Salty Retired Police Captain Who's Seen Too Much in His Life" mustache than you do...

I assume we will be a lot of people's upset pick. Our offense will struggle against their blitzes, we won't be able to run the ball, and so the score will remain quite close even if our defense contains them. They will have a couple scripted drives that dantonio has planned all offseason with plays like the FB wheel with which he will manufacture a score or 2. Remains to be seen if we have a different playbook for okorn with some read option, bootlegs, designed runs, etc. given the extra week of prep.

RB may be the only position category that MSU has an edge in.

As long as the team doesn't come out flat and our offense doesn't look like a monkey fu#$*ng a football, then I'm predicting a controlled win.

SHIT

It's only Monday afternoon and I'm dying for this game to be here. It's going to be a long week.

I'm just preparing myself for the frustrating Lewerke scramble(s) for a first down on third and long. I've accepted it will happen a few times. And I'm okay with it becuase it likely means he's under durress most of the day.

Still nervous. Shouldn't be, but I am.

While you are preparing for that, I am already prepared. It will annoyingly happen and I'm gonna want to grab him through the TV and rip his legs off for doing it, even though I knew it would happen in the first place.

I feel better about Saturday already. Thanks Dave. We in Chicago don't miss you at all. Now if only we could eliminate the McCaskey influence ... hopefully the McCaskey's have MSU up by 1000 points.

has a really eclectic group of personalities, and Dave Wannstandt might be the worse. On another note, I kinda like James Lauranitis on there. I think he is very knowledgeable and pretty fair. He loves Devin Bush.

Bottom line if the offense can be servicable and JOK can hit the passes that will be there given how sparty likes to play D we win period. Barring the D just having a melt down which I doubt I don't see how Sparty scores points. And BL can do all that running around if he wants to, won't make it to the 4th

Unless and until the offense starts rolling over people, some media chucklehead or other is going to have UM on upset alert in every game they're favored.

Mone, Hurst and maybe Mccrae. That is how many players Lewerke can out run on Michigan's defense. I really do not understand all the nervous nellies on this blog. Michigan is going to dominate this game as they should. Name me one starting player on msu you would take over the Michigan starter at the same position

The game is not played on paper. Especially not this game. We have better talent than MSU at just about every position, but this is what Dantonio's teams relish: the "us against the world" mentality. He's going to play that disrespekt card in his player's heads all week, and it seems to have worked well for them in the past.

They wouldn't have beaten immensely more talented OSU teams if it didn't.

Hey, Dave, remember when Pitt won the Meineke Car Care Bowl?

That's fine, no one else does either outside of Pittsburgh.

I can't do B1G Football And Beyond much anymore, and he's one of the reasons.

Is 10-0 against the spread vs Michigan. I don't see that changing this year with how wide the spread is, but I still think Michigan wins comfortably. Probably keeps MSU at bay and Sparty scores a garbage tuddy late to make it seem closer just like last year. Dantonio teams never seem to get blown out by us or Ohio State, no matter how good or bad they are.

Talking head gonna talking head

If it were last year I would have agreed that he should be tarred and feathered, but there are some question marks around our O and Lewerke can make things happen with his legs

This is not a guaranteed win.

All fumbled balls will bounce Sparty's way, weird things will happen that will benefit Sparty and regardless of all this we will win....not a gimme game EVER

after a bye week, rested and hungry...ya good luck with that.  Our offense is the offense, its just bla to meh...our D and special teams are top tier.  Thats what wins games.

flip the field, give Okorn a short field, let him do his ting with the TEs.....win

I don't see how people on either side can be over confident. As long as Mork is at Staee I don't see Michigan winning by more than 10 points. He is obsessed with Michigan and will find a way to keep this close. Staee has talented players and Lewerke will cause trouble for the D. The O-line for Michigan is a complete tire fire and we have no idea how JOK will play. I hope I am wrong but if Michigan does win I think we will be sweating out until the very end.

A "nice guy" post coaching career but always struck me as not the sharpest tool in the shed.  It's now confirmed.  My guess is he probably picks a lot of upsets in big rivalry games.  Sometimes it happens.  Not this year.

At this point in time you've got every reason to believe MSU has a solid D so you'd think that with our offense being not exactly explosive, it's gonna be a low-scoring game. In a low-scoring game the 'underdog' always has a shot. And this 'underdog' is a Big Ten team and not some bad FCS team. It's not exactly Wannstedt going out on a limb here.

Wqnnstedt and Harbaugh do have a history. They are supposed to have mended fences now, but at one time Harbaugh said that Wannstedt was the one coach he would never play for again.

I suspect this has more to do with a lazy hot take than anything else, though.

Before the Purdue game, quite a few talking heads had Michigan on upset alert as well.
