Couches burn in East Lansing after MSU win
October 30th, 2021 at 8:03 PM ^
I wish I had won something so I had a reason to burn a couch

This.
Or the “It’s their Super Bowl“
what’s the UM super bowl? OSU blowouts?

Who cares they are college kids. Only dorks and snobs care about this
October 30th, 2021 at 8:09 PM ^
I hate to tell you but Michigan has a lot of dorks and snobs in its fanbase.
October 30th, 2021 at 10:42 PM ^
?case and point
October 31st, 2021 at 12:01 AM ^
Case in point.
I'm only half referring to you.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:06 PM ^
Trash behaving like trash. Should surprise nobody.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:07 PM ^
Look at me... I'm a 'M' fan and even though we choked the game away today at least we're still better than them.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
I mean, it is true...
October 30th, 2021 at 9:44 PM ^
It is. I was there today. That win (which, don't get me wrong, I wish Michigan had) gave the Sparties a deep happiness. I can't imagine perfect symmetry in that area with a Michigan win. It means more to Sparty.
October 31st, 2021 at 3:45 AM ^
This is one of the most embarrassing attempts at pseudointellectualism in the history of this board
October 31st, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
It sounds like he'd burn things and flip cars too if he had the chance.
I hope this story doesn't go National and bring shame to the State of Michigan.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
I’m envious. As an M fan I wish M students had a reason to burn couches. Unfortunately, it seems like we’ve been here before. Enjoy the view from the moral high ground I guess, if that is all that is left.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:17 PM ^
We do, it’s called basketball. Michigan fans still don’t burn couches when they win big in basketball. The only other place I know of that does this on a consistent basis is Lexington, KY and UK fans…and that says it all right there.
October 31st, 2021 at 4:52 PM ^
Exactly.
I don't recall Ann Arbor fans burning things, or flipping cars, over anything, a win or a loss.
Does the urge to, and satisfaction derived from, doing these things originate in feelings of inferiority? East Lansing is second to Ann Arbor in many ways. Was this some sort of response to that?
October 30th, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
Cool, at least we can be morally superior. Who needs football wins.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:54 PM ^
Yeah except for that whole abusing athletes for years thing. Thank God we save the couches though....
October 30th, 2021 at 8:09 PM ^
Kinda fun to embrace it and make it a tradition.
Not a great tradition, but at least they're embracing their identity instead of denying it.
There might even be a lesson in there for us somewhere, but today's wounds are too fresh.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:13 PM ^
Given the chance I would probably burn a couch right now.
This game was a microcosm of how absolutely shitty my life has been lately. Every little glimmer of hope is crushed having me wish I never saw the glimmer at all
October 30th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
I sympathize. Honestly, I'm feeling this same thing right now.
October 30th, 2021 at 9:03 PM ^
I hope you are a young person. I wish you well, that in time, the blessings you receive will be the things that you remember, and not the trials you go through to appreciate them. Everything evens out, and this is just a game. Carry On.
October 30th, 2021 at 9:16 PM ^
Thanks. I got a lot of good things in my life for sure. My 2021 was what 2020 was for a lot of people. It wasn’t the game, I have gotten over that. It just was the perfect illustration of how for some reason, this year has been dong punch after dong punch
October 30th, 2021 at 8:13 PM ^
Water is wet.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:18 PM ^
A tradition unlike any other
Students burn couches then they support a local business by buying a new couch.
October 30th, 2021 at 9:20 PM ^
Circle of life?
October 30th, 2021 at 9:51 PM ^
NIL for the couch manufacturers padded Michigan pockets nicely tonight.

October 30th, 2021 at 8:19 PM ^
Yeah - MSU folks are idiots. But they won the game. Something Harbaugh can’t figure out. Time to move on. New coach. New philosophy. My school shits the bed every darn time.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:28 PM ^
"They" actually didn't win shit.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
""""they"""'' actually won the fucking game
October 30th, 2021 at 9:20 PM ^
Actually, the players won. The Msu fans basking in the glory of kids winning a football game to fill the void of failing to live up to what little potential they had in life doesn't constitute "winning."
October 30th, 2021 at 10:02 PM ^
Whatever you say....
October 30th, 2021 at 10:11 PM ^
Michigan would win a lot more games if refs took 4 points from our opponents too. This win means nothing as far as I'm concerned. It's as valid as Illinois's argument for a B1G basketball title
October 30th, 2021 at 10:15 PM ^
Whatever you got to tell yourself right?
October 30th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
We pissed away a 16 point lead in the 3rd quarter because we are Michigan.
October 30th, 2021 at 10:15 PM ^
Weird way to spell "refs stole 4 points that ended up being the margin of defeat while failing to call blatant DPI on 4th on the most pivotal drive" but okay
October 30th, 2021 at 8:41 PM ^
Sparty G. Spart can kiss my ass.
Go Blue.
October 30th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
Yeah well, they won. They get to do this shit. We get another shitty fucking loss to a rival. #TheMichiganDifference
October 30th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
who gives a fuck they won
October 30th, 2021 at 8:52 PM ^
This game was 2016 OSU all over again.
The better team lost due to some absurd circumstances. No, this is not a rationalization or excuses for Harbaugh. I've been very critical of him, our recruiting, our game day prep, road record, etc. I wanted him gone last year. But today was just the universe shitting on us.
Every high leverage play went the way of MSU. We literally had a bs review take 4 points off the board for us before half time - so we were up 9 instead of 13 when the strip sack TD was reversed.
We "lost" 6 out of 6 replay reviews. They held, then interfered with our receiver Johnson and got away with it on the highest impact play of the game - 4 and 3 as we're marching down the field.
We had a bs holding call on our receiver at the 3 yard line as we were going in to score another TD.
This was just an absolutely low probability, incredibly lucky win for Sparty and it totally sucks. Does it happen to UM and Harbaugh more than other teams?- I really don't know. But this was more than a choke job of just our own errors and shit play down the stretch as has usually been the case. There was some incredibly low probability BS that needed to occur for Sparty to win this game and that's what makes it most frustrating. The better team lost today.
October 30th, 2021 at 9:01 PM ^
Your conspiracy thoughts and complaints are really not relevant to this thread.
October 30th, 2021 at 9:40 PM ^
I can go back to the 2015 and 2017 losses on here and pull more or less the exact same quote. How many times do we have to lose to MSU and others in close games to maybe realize our coaching stuff sucks and makes critical mistakes in close games? It's year fucking seven.
Amazing that MSU can play us close all the fucking time with less talent, but we get blown the fuck out against OSU with less talent. Maybe it's coaching not the refs or the weather or injuries.
October 30th, 2021 at 10:41 PM ^
Dude…just stop man.
October 30th, 2021 at 10:18 PM ^
Call it what it is, it's a "cotton candy win". It means nothing. Hard to win games when the stripes takeaway points and don't call DPI. As far as I care, it's a draw. Their win last year is 1000x times more legit than this farce.
October 30th, 2021 at 10:28 PM ^
I have been slamming my head against the proverbial wall for six hours now just trying make any sense out of this game whatsoever.
I am amazed because we are probably on the opposite sides of most arguments on this blog.
“But today was just the universe shitting on us” is the most apt description of all of this and none of the tens of thousands of words that will be written about this game will come close to saying it better.
Thank you. I may actually be able to fall asleep tonight.

F Sparty
October 30th, 2021 at 8:56 PM ^
Spartys gonna spart now includes beating harbaugh in the most miserable fashion annually. Sour grapes. Who fucking cares about the couch burning
October 30th, 2021 at 9:00 PM ^
Obviously, they don't realize the police tape and monitor these fun times. That's how they've primarily been arresting participants for at least 15 years. Inciting a riot is a common charge with a plea accepted to the nonsensical "attempted inciting a riot".
October 30th, 2021 at 9:08 PM ^
They should. They win big games. Michigan doesn’t. They answer the bell. Michigan shits the bed. Nothings changed.
I’d burn a couch if I’d won too. We talked soooo much shit after Dantonio retired and how MSU was going back to the cellar forever. All that happened was they ascended as high as Dantonio ever got in a year and a half and punked Michigan bad two years in a row.
They deserve to celebrate. Just like Michigan deserves to rub it in the face of everyone who said Juwan was a bad hire.
