Michigan has had quite a few great duos but Corum/Edwards is the best combo IMO and that's saying something. We've had:

Gordon Bell/Lytle

Lytle/Huckleby

Huckleby/Stanley Edwards

Hoard/Boles

Wheatley/Biakabutuka

Just to name a few.

Mike Hart / David Underwood

testament to how great Hart really was as a freshmen....

Kidding Aside

Richardson/Ingram Bama

Bush/White USC

Maroney/Barber

Thomas/Sanders Ok St

Were all probably better at this stage of what Corum and Edwards have done. Now if they both put up similar or better numbers than last year while playing together all season I think you have an argument to put them in that category.  I expect Edwards to factor into the passing game greatly. I think he is our big play guy in several other roles while Corum grinds you. Edwards will get his carriers as well but good luck covering him and Loveland with LB's. If you bring in an extra DB Corum and this oline going to go ham. Beautiful problem to put on our opponents. LETS GO!

Wheatley / Biakabatuka

Wheatleys - 15 c / 225 yd rose bowl while experiencing cramping was beyond belief. Love that superman hands on hips pose!

Biakabatuka - 37 c / 313 yd vs. OSU

Dickerson / James - SMU

McFadden / Jones - Arkansas - 487 yds vs # 23 south carolina, both 1st round draft picks

How refreshing is it to have two of the best playmakers in the nation at a skill position? We've been waiting a long time for this 🥹

What a time from 2003-2006 to watch running backs though. We got to watch Perry tear it up here in 2003, Hart get going in 2004.

You had Williams/Brown and Adrian Peterson at in 2004. Reggie Bush/Lendale at USC and Darren McFadden/Felix Jones in 2005.

I think what makes Corum & Edwards such a great combination is that they are such good complimentary backs. It's not just having two excellent running backs on the roster simultaneously. It's not even having two backs with distinct running styles. Corum and Edwards don't just have different running styles--they can actually play two different positions given Edwards' ability to play WR as well as or better than most actual WRs.

I think the Reggie Bush/Lendale White combo might have been the closest I can remember. Bush, like Edwards, was kind of an all-purpose back on steroids (not actual steroids) and then White was the bruising power inside runner. Corum is certainly a more versatile and dynamic runner than White was; I would say the margin between Bush and Edwards is closer but overall that's a pretty good comparison.

I never really saw the Sanders/Thomas combo in action. That was back in the day when out-of-region games were seldom broadcast, and anyway I was like 11 years old and wouldn't have really understood what I was watching anyway. But seeing as Thomas was one of the greatest all-purpose backs in NFL history and Sanders one of the greatest RBs period, I can't imagine you could do much better than those guys.

I will say that Corum is the most Sanders-like of any RB I can recall watching since actual Barry; Corum dominates college competition the way Sanders dominated NFL competition. If Corum can do the same thing in the pros then someday people might say he was as good as Sanders but for now Corum is plenty good enough.

I mean, Maroney and Marion Barber were amazing at Minnesota, had a good running QB too.

James White and Montee Ball (?) at Wisconsin as well were awesome and ripped us a new one when we had RichRod.

Also, McFadden, Peyton Hillis and Felix Jones at Arkansas was an unbelievable backfield and they consisted of 3 guys

All these above teams just weren’t championship caliber elsewhere so their incredible running back rooms are overlooked

I am so tempted to say Curtis Dickey and George Woodard...for those who witnessed the great '77 game against Texas A&M.

Or Eric Dickerson and Craig James....if it weren't for all those dead hookers.
