This may be a little disjointed.

My wife thought she had bronchitis again. Had it last November. She has a history of chronic asthma and is prone to getting respiratory infections. Xrays were negative and she was given the covid 19 test 8 days ago as a precaution. We have self isolated since then. Today the results came back positive. Our family of four is under home quarantine. No additional testing ordered for the family. Presumption is we all have it. If we need medical attention, we are to call first, otherwise stay isolated.

No urgent medical treatment needed for any of us at the time, other than wifes previously prescribed treatment. We already own a nebulizer and her treatment was as already showing positive affects before we received the results. Turns out, just a cold can be much more.

Horrible news...prayers go out to you and yours! However, good news is that you're stopping the virus in its tracks by isolating, take comfort in the fact that you're killing it in its tracks along with thousands of other people who are fighting the good fight! *Virtual Bouquet* to ya! @--->---

Several people have mentioned California's relatively low number of cases. I had noticed that a few days ago with a WTF is CA getting so much attention with MI having more cases?

The answer is found here:

https://covidtracking.com/data/#CA

For whatever reason, CA has 57,400 tests as "pending". It's been that way for a few days. The info is direct from CA State Health Dept. If you assume the national average of ~15% positives, the number of cases are much higher than MI.

This site typically has a lag is it doesn't generally forecast, just collects and reports.

Let’s see if COVID matches this when all is said and done:

The 2017–2018 flu season was severe for all US populations and resulted in an estimated 959,000 hospitalizations and 61,099 deaths. This is the highest number of patient claims since the 2009 flu season.[10] 186 pediatric deaths were reported to the CDC.[3] It is estimated there were more than 600 pediatric deaths related to influenza. This estimation is made because every child death is not tested for influenza.[10]

Let's hope it doesn't. But you do realize if it DOESN'T, that could be due to mitigation efforts put into place, right?

My guess (because that's all anyone can do at this stage) is that the mortality rate will be closer to the seasonal flu than people want to admit. BUT, that was never the only metric. If it spread like wildfire and everyone had it in a 2 week period (as opposed to ~5 months of flu season) it would be catastrophic. Thus, the flatten the curve dialogue.

At 5.5 times the population of Italy (with over 800 dead already), it would be a huge victory for the USA is we keep it under 20,000. I'm skeptical. And yes, I realize the 20,000 are someone's mother, father, brother, daughter, son...

Still, in 2017-2018, 80,000 Americans died and close to 1 million were hospitalized, and nothing was shut down.  This is good that we are being smart about COVID now and the social distancing will be great, but we can’t keep America shut down for the rest of 2020, like many are calling for!  Friggin Herbstreit is already say he doesn’t think there will be any college or NFL football this year!  Nice hot take!
