Wish the transfer portal was more dedicated to guys like this who it just didn't work out for but can go find playing time elsewhere, vs being a shopping mall for the highest bidders.

There is no RB news that can disrupt my Benjamin Hall hype other then BH in the portal. I think the guy is going to be a star.

Tough river to swim to PT: Mullings, Hall, Cabana, Marshall, Kapana and Edwards hasn't released his intentions. I do think he goes...

For a year and a half, I”ve been wondering what happened to Stokes. He got off to a really promising start, had a bunch of nice runs, fumbled once, and then he hardly ever saw the field again.

I think it would be interesting to experiment with Orji as a back as well - in particular if the QB snaps never materialize - has some significant upside, makes people miss, has plenty of speed and at almost 240lbs definitely makes the defense have to focus on tackling.

His carries took a flat spin of a nose dive after he missed that cut against OSU last year.  That was probably a TD left on the field, and he never recovered from it.  Call it injuries if you will, but it never felt like the coaches trusted him again.

Which is odd, because Edwards' misses a bunch of cuts in every game...

I don't think it was the missed the cut that lost the coaches trust. It's more likely fumbling and just not being productive.

DE misses cuts but the explosiveness and talent is there that he can make a huge play. The payoff is bigger, you get more chances when you can make the big play.

I liked Stokes, but he doesnt seem like a homerun threat, and if you are a guy whose value is in consistently getting 4-5 yards you can't fumble or not get 4-5 yards.

This is correct. He was never going to develop into a starter because of the guys Michigan was bringing in. He bad a tough talk with Hart and realized he wanted an opportunity elsewhere to try and be a starter. He’ll leave in good favor with the team and he has mad respect for Hart. This is how the portal should work.

Shame but not a surprise.  With Kalel Mullings onboard and Benjamin Hall seemingly up for a bigger role the room was getting pretty crowded.

Here's hoping he has the same level of success at a new school that Charbonnet did.

Don't understand the RB ball distribution this year.

Neither Corum or Edwards had their best years, yet nobody else really got a chance to carry the ball and that's with all the cupcakes on our schedule.

Mullings 32x

Hall 15x

Stokes 4x

How does Stokes only get 4 carries for the entire year after the promise he showed last year?  I guess it's Hart's way of telling the kid to transfer. Also, Hall only getting 15 carries...Hart is clearly paving the way for the 2 talented incoming freshmen.

Hall only got 15 carries so they could preserve his redshirt. they are trying to spread some of these classes out. Also CJ was hurt for a decent amount of games and by the time he got healthy Mullings had cemented his spot as the RB3. Going to be a very competitive room even if Donovan decides to go pro.

These are all the scholarship backs we could potentially have next year:

1. Donovan Edwards (SR)

2. Kalel Mullings (5th)

3. Benjamin Hall (RS FR)

4. Cole Cabana (RS FR)

5. Jordan Marshall (FR)

6. Tavierre Dunlap (RS JR)

7. Micah Ka’apana (FR) (Probably going to redshirt)

I enjoyed watching CJ Stokes getting carries and was surprised last year when his touches declined. I do wish him well at the school at he chooses and hope that he gets more playing time.

So if guys enter the transfer portal, especially if the coaches encourage it, as suggested by others here, do they get to participate in the post season games or are they basically gone?   That would suck to be on a potentially National Championship winning team and not get to win a National Championship.

I was on a State Championship wrestling team as a starter and even though I really didn't contribute a whole lot to the actual championship, I'm still really proud of being on that team. I hope Michigan finds a way to let those guys be a part of the celebration/team.

CJ Stokes has his chances. The emergence of Kalel Mullings also put CJ down the depth chart. We haven't seen much of Cole Cabana at RB and he has potential.

Best wished to CJ Stokes in the future.

This is one of the ones that is a huge bummer to me. That isn't anything towards him. I thought he had "it". Maybe not "it" enough to be a star, but enough to be a very solid contributor. This seems like one of those situations where he could just go somewhere and be a star and maybe it just didn't work for whatever reason here.

Seemed like a solid guy and teammate. Wish him the best.
