Chryst to his O-Line: this is worst DL you will face

Submitted by skegemogpoint on September 22nd, 2019 at 10:05 PM

Listened to Balas and Skene podcast. Pretty damning when Paul Chryst reportedly tells his O-line that “you better be able to push Michigan off the ball because this is the worst DLine you will face all year.”

So I guess a 240 lb fullback at DT doesn’t scare a 300 lb OG? Lol. So goddam ridiculous.

So here's an honest question---

Is the drop in DL performance at least partly the RESULT of the departure of Mattison?  Or did Mattison see the writing on the wall & part of the reason he bailed was because he didn't want to be blamed as being part of the CAUSE?

Titles are meaningless when they have the word “co” in front of them.  In the context of player transfers, sitting out bowl games and declaring early and not even getting drafted etc, there is at least a chance he simply didn’t want to work with JH any longer. If he did, then you have to assume Harbaugh didn’t want to pay him.  Titles are titles but money is real.    With his tenure at UM, he may have stayed for less than OSU paid him.     Washington was easy to see, he was an Ohio guy and was only briefly with UM.   Again, just my opinion, but I believe it was one of the early signs of Harbaugh losing the locker room.   I believed it when it happened, not just another overreaction to the WI game.

Mattison left because he is a defensive coordinator and had been a line coach at Michigan since JH was hired.  He also has his salary doubled by taking the OSU job.

He didn’t have to stay as long as he did, but his relationship with the Harbaugh family goes back to Jack at WMU in the early to mid eighties.

That is a super interesting question.

If GMatt left either because of the talent drop-off here, or the talent differential at OSU....

I mean, he was dead to me already, this would cement that feeling further.  Leaders don't quit on their team and flee.  Leaders find a way to bring out the best in who they have,

GMatt just looking for bigger paycheck and easier coast into retirement.  It's his prerogative of course.  It does tie into a confluence of factors that made up the end of last season.  F you Mattison

If he said that he can fuck off.  The played South Florida, CMU already and Kent State on 10/5.

Our DL isn't up to typical Michigan standards but it is NOT the worst DL they will face all year.

And Jesus Fucking Christ.

Did OSU fans melt down like this in 2017 after a shitty 8-5 Iowa team beat them BY THIRTY ONE POINTS 55-24 in 2017?

Did OSU fans melt down like this last year after an even shittier 6-7 Purdue team beat them BY TWENTY-NINE POINTS????

Ya know, sometimes one team just has a great, crisp day and the other team has an off day.

We need more data. Until then, everyone calm the fuck down.

How did a team like OSU with all the talent at every position fall off that bad though? The Iowa debacle in 2017 & the Purdue lambasting in 2018 both have something in common: they were the first road game after an emotional, come-from-behind, big-time win over PSU.

The Iowa game was the very next week after a huge PSU win in 2017. In 2018, after another emotional win in a big game vs. PSU, OSU was home the next 2 weeks but played very sluggish and was able to beat Nebraska & Minniesoda unimpressively. Then they finally hit the road to Purdue when they fell apart in the 4th quarter.

The Iowa loss smacked the team in the face enough that they didn't lose again until the repeat happened the following year. The Purdue loss smacked the team in the face enough that they haven't lost since. ...I wonder who OSU's first road game is against after PSU in 2019?

Harbaugh has seen the pattern and is throwing UM's season to ensure that history repeats itself. Harbaugh has OSU right where he wants them!

Genius, give the man a raise!

Michigan was the best team in the Big Ten in 2016 and got totally fucked over by the refs. Period.

THAT team was one of the 4 best teams in the country. I'm still pissed about that fucking game.

Last year Michigan was ranked in the Top 4 until the OSU debacle.

So in half of his 1st 4 seasons, Harbaugh had one CFP team and one that got very close.

Harbaugh is doing WAY WAY better than the last two football coaches.

Until Michigan starts using bag men we probably need to be satisfied with only having an occasional playoff contender.

Ah yes another the house is fine as every room is on fire , we are the only fanbase that constantly blames refs, bagmen or some other fucking excuse for losses. everyone hates us every ref is out for us. At the end of the day IT SHOULDN'T HAVE COME DOWN TO A SPOT. Never put the game in refs hands.

Yeah refs aren’t to get us but when a replay official that examines plays for a living says that if that Ronnie Bell CATCH was ruled INCOMPLETE on the field he would’ve reversed it TO A CATCH.  But instead the opposite happened.  Those refs called it a catch ON THE FIELD, went under the hood saw ABSOLUTELY nothing conclusive enough to overturn the call.  However, they came back and did overturn it?  Yeah that play didn’t kill one of the second best drives we had all day.  Refs have little to no impact on today’s games!

Harbaugh has won absolutely nothing of consequence at Michigan.  He’s improved the program greatly from the Rodriguez/Hoke eras, but I always have to laugh about all the the people on the board that constantly dump on Carr.  Everyone wants to dwell on one terrible game at the end, but how many times in the Carr era did you have to sit and watch a lifeless team get blown out?  It’s been happening a lot recently under Harbaugh.

Yep. It's definitely too soon to put the final nail in the coffin. But yesterday was the first time since Harbaugh arrived that I began to consider that he might not be the right man for the job anymore. That was the worst loss in his time at Michigan, and now 2017 is starting to look less like an aberration and more like the kind of season we are going to have to endure with regularity. He's five years into his time at Michigan and his team looks fucking lost on the football field. That's just not acceptable for a coach at a school that regularly pulls in top 10 recruiting classes.
