I had looked at what Mattison had done by leaving as a business deal.  Perhaps he had expected to be the DC, perhaps he thought he was very underpaid.  I could have lived with these things, although I wasn't happy about it.  Football is after all a business.

But when Mattison started with his cutesy shit TTUN, that's when I said I'm done with him. That was anything but accidental and it achieved the thing Mattison hoped for, it pissed off the Michigan fan base. That was his intent and it was uncalled for.  He never had anything but respect from the fans.  Until now...

Fuck him.

To be honest, this whole situation is making me wonder wtf Ryan Day was thinking?

He buried a potential landmine in his tenure for someone who's already eating dinner by 3pm.

Kinda makes sense GMatt would try to prove Harbaugh wrong for choosing Don Brown but this is really a strange move *(edit) for a first year HC.

From what I hear, Mattison is hanging out in the men's room a lot reading girlie magazines and they can barely get him to come out and coach a little. It was all part of a deal he and Jimmy cooked up to undermine OSU. He'll be back next year after they fall apart is the secret plan. Day already senses that something is terribly wrong, but given the big buyout Mattison's lawyer insisted on he's stuck with him for at least a year.

If we want an edge back to the program, then THIS is exactly whats needed... it worked well for MSU.... let the two coaches going to rivals in a weasel way, be the motivation to bring everyone together....

bless coach Partridge.... am glad finally someone stepped up and spoke the truth.  its gonna suck when he leaves, and it'll be soon.

He will either leave to prove himself as a DC or get promoted to some assistant DC role here.

If he continues being as good as he has been, he will end up as Michigan’s DC and possibly the HC after Harbaugh. He would be perfect for it. He just needs to prove himself.

I will reiterate my thoughts on GM. He's a baby back bitch.

My kids made me listen to "The Duck Song" the other day and it made me think of GM.  "Waddle..waddle...then he waddle away."

No Michigan fan who's old enough to have been around during the Ten Year War can just wave off what Mattison did with "Eh, what's the big deal, he got a promotion etc etc."

Going directly from Michigan to OSU would have been literally unthinkable back then, and that mindset will never leave me. If all Greg Mattison wanted was a chance to be DC again with a nice salary bump, he could have gotten that at plenty of schools other than our most hated rival.

In anticipation of somebody saying "but but but Bo coached at OSU and then came to Michigan"—Schembechler spent six years as HC at Miami of Ohio before he came to Ann Arbor. If you don't think there's a difference between that and moving directly from Michigan to OSU, we live in different worlds.

I'm glad someone around the program is mad about this.  The whole reaction was just so fucking muted from everyone but the fans.  Hell, Sam Webb was defending him to the absolute hilt(and it was a bit over the top as far as how much he was trying to get people to calm down about it)..  It really does feel like no-one in Ann Arbor takes the rivalry seriously at all, and frankly, it's absolutely the reason Michigan gets their asses whipped by them every single year.

What Mattison did was unthinkable, Washington should never have taken the Michigan job in the first place if Columbus was his ultimate goal, and it't time for Michigan to take this as the mushroom stamping it was meant to be, get pissed off and finally figure out how to beat Ohio State.

Glad you brought up Sam and his general comments on TOADS..

Love Sam, the insider or insiders IMO...but his defending of this shit bag drives me crazy.  Call a spade a spade and say its bullshit and a direct jab at JH and the program.

CP is east coast hard nosed dude...love that he is saying something. TOADS

Good. I'm glad to see someone publicly mention it. Fuck Xattison (can't use "M" now that he's a toothless cooler shitter).

I refuse to believe that Mattison's departure was about money or status, not at his age. I'm pretty sure it was to stick it to Harbaugh and/or UM. To hell with him.

Since Mattison sucked @ss as a DC, thank goodness JH demoted him to his level of competence.

Gave up 42 to TUOs in consecutive years, and one of those he held them to only 400 rushing yards.

Never understood the adulation over a guy who sucked as a DC here.

Like how Chris makes clear he is only speaking for himself, but is refreshingly candid.  Everyone has the right to their own feelings.  My feeling is it would be mighty sweet to beat OSU and Matty a few years in a row, right through Matty's retirement, but of course we just need to win the next one at this point.

This is very refreshing. There seemed to be a little outrage when this all went down, but I couldn’t believe that overall it seemed to just be no big deal. It was a huge deal and whether it was towards Harbaugh or truthfully because he wanted to be a defensive coordinator, it was still one of the biggest “fuck you” moves I’ve ever seen from a coach.

To think he did this before when he went to Notre Dame is even worse. Add in all the wonderful things he said about Michigan and the rivalry and you have a guy that just dug his grave for ever being welcome by any M fan anywhere let alone Ann Arbor. Yes, he’s going to make a few million dollars yet he just tarnished his reputation forever. When he sucks at OSU and they fire him, two fan bases will despise him and karma will hit hard.

Can't wait for Mattison to enter town this year. I guess he defines this age of no loyalty. Even if you work for a company for decades, the company sees you as a number. Aka our Detroit "heros". Buy " Chinese.

At first, when he left to be DC somewhere, I understood that... sucks to be a line coach when you've been a DC so long.…   BUT... the ONE place he shouldn't go to, is their yin-yang rival.... just seems wrong, despite his history with Meyer....   Benedict Mattison deserves all the grief that's coming....

About damn time. Hoke really seemed to have the hate for OSU and it showed in how his teams played in The Game.

Know what else isn't okay?  Losing on the Saturday following Thanksgiving.  I don't know what motivates Mattison, but you got to think that perhaps he'd like to cap off his professional career on the winning side of the ledger.  As for Washington, again only speculating, but maybe he has decided that working with a program that can compete with and beat the best is a way to move his professional life forward.

One can wonder if perhaps Partridge would think differently if he was offered a position, with a commensurate pay raise, at a top tier program.

I like Partridge.  Very happy he didn’t bolt for Alabama when Saban courted him.  He will be a defensive coordinator somewhere soon, I suspect.
