Charles Woodson's nephew, James Crawford....

Submitted by Wbolin999 on

Could be a potential plan B candidate if UM strikes out on McQuay, who I think Michigan has a good shot at BTW. Looks like Crawford is really climbing up the UM coaches board, and they like him a lot. They've been on him for a while, but he has really exploded throughout his Senior season. Here's a very recent tweet from him....

THE_FIELD_GENERAL @ james7crawford “ @ PowellBp4 : I hope my dawg @ james7crawford get that Michigan offer” I hope so bra they coming Friday to see me"

Highlights. EDIT: Whoops I'm slow and kinda redundant. But it's his hudl profile so it has a longer version of the highlights if you're interested.

And Tremendous did a story on him just the other day.

James said he isn't sure if an offer is coming, but he is hopeful he will land an offer. The coaches told him they are waiting on Leon McQuay, but they also told him "they want to come see me in person before they make a move"

I totally agree with you. It's like people think they get paid the more clicks they get. The point here is to be informational, not enticing. Let me decide if I want to click on your link, not bait me into it with a cliffhanger headline. What would have been wrong with "Michigan interested in James Crawford, Woodson's nephew." Or even "New prospect: James Crawford" and then tell us in the post he's Woodson's nephew.

The highlight reel looks pretty good - he seems to have his ability to basically be a wide receiver in the secondary, but he also made some good tackles and stopped what looked like potentially big plays, so a bit reminiscent of Kovacs, although he made some Ryan-type tackles in a few clips. My personal favorite is towards the middle of the video, where he brought someone down and they slid horizontally for a good five or six feet. There's some strength there, it seems.

Magnus, gotta disagree with your diagnosis about Crawford. He plays in one of the toughest regions in the nation, and is showing plenty of speed to me in that video. Long and lean body type, but still built with some solid muscle at this point it seems like. Covers ground very smoothly and with ease.

When trying to change direction, he looks like Josh Furman...and that's not a good thing.

And considering he plays at a big-time school with lots of exposure but only has offers from UMass and Northwestern, I'm guessing there are plenty of college coaches out there who don't think he can play safety, either.

I haven't heard anything in the last week or two, but he's generally considered to be off the radar for good reason.  Some schools supposedly stopped recruiting him.  Last I heard he was taking a bunch of random trips to Utah and Hawaii and Alabama, and you can't really get much more disparate than those three.  I don't really think he's an option for Michigan anymore.

I just think there were some guys who overshadowed him, who were a little more visible.  But that was back in June when he got a big-time offer.  Crawford's season is over or will be soon, so he's had his entire senior season to get offers, and he's still sitting on two.

Because all of these people who neg for titles and similar crap are getting annoying. Who gives a shit if every single person doesn't abide by your rules and format of posting on a message board.

It's just that --- a message board, a blog, not 9th grade English.

Besides, wouldn't it be more informative to create a post telling the orginal poster why his title sucks? Just downvoting and not explaining makes you look like a douche, and the person is just as likely to repeat the "mistake."

FTR, I posted about it, but didn't neg. And just because it's a blog doesn't mean we shouldn't have high expectations. I just seems like people are thinking "I bet this will get them to click on my thread" rather than "I bet this is the best title for my thread."

On one hand you are right. It can be annoying when everyone complains about titles and similar stuff. On the other hand, if people stop policing the board in that manner then it will end up being like every other low class, uninformative, crappy site on the internet.

The policing is the lesser of the two evils.

Interesting, we are having an informal contest of who can come up with the worst thread title of all time.  ZoneLeft believes the title "Wolverines" is the current leader while BiSB thinks the title "Sports" would be the victor.  OMG chimed in with "Stuf" but my vote goes to another short, sweet one:  "News."

I think he should get an offer solely due to Charles Woodson being the absolute man..this dude has given so much to the university in both athletics and philanthropy I support hooking his nephew up who is also pretty good at football..just saying

I'm not advocating giving a scholarship offer to the nephews of all your ex players. Pretty much Charles Woodson's. Not because of all the things he did while on the field but for all the things did once he left. Anything we can do to keep him as close to the program as possible is worth it in my book.

If the Michigan tradition is that important to the Woodson family, I'd imagine tuition payments would not be that big of a problem.  I agree that when we're taking depth guys, legacy guys are an excellent place to look, but when we're short on space in a class you have to go for the talent, not the blood ties.  Which is not to imply Crawford lacks the talent, but more as a general rule.

Love his tape.  He has a very aggressive streak in him and never quits on a play.  He shows this both on defense and also when he is carrying the ball or blocking.  This is a natural aggression that makes good players great.  He doesnt have the athleticism of Charles...but for a strong safety prospect, he is very very solid.  Give him an offer Brady.

safeties who wear number 7 for Aquinas...i have a natural affinity for those brave few

I would agree with Magnus, looks more like a linebacker prospect. I was impressed with his ability to be patient and read the play and than accelerate aud go make the tackle. Confused on the last kickoff coverage though 0_o
