Charles Woodson's nephew, James Crawford....
Could be a potential plan B candidate if UM strikes out on McQuay, who I think Michigan has a good shot at BTW. Looks like Crawford is really climbing up the UM coaches board, and they like him a lot. They've been on him for a while, but he has really exploded throughout his Senior season. Here's a very recent tweet from him....
THE_FIELD_GENERAL @ james7crawford “ @ PowellBp4 : I hope my dawg @ james7crawford get that Michigan offer” I hope so bra they coming Friday to see me"

Highlights. EDIT: Whoops I'm slow and kinda redundant. But it's his hudl profile so it has a longer version of the highlights if you're interested.
And Tremendous did a story on him just the other day.
James said he isn't sure if an offer is coming, but he is hopeful he will land an offer. The coaches told him they are waiting on Leon McQuay, but they also told him "they want to come see me in person before they make a move"

I say yes to setting up a St. Thomas Aquinas pipeline.
November 28th, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
The timing is great for a STA pipeline, too. It's not like Miami's "fence" around STA is going to work for the next 5 or 10 years.

Him and McQuay are boys too. And my fault about the video link!

Good. I saw this hanging outside 'Fort' Schembechler the other day.

Interesting

is interested in coming here. I wonder why any true UM fan would be opposed to that possibility.
November 28th, 2012 at 1:42 PM ^
Maybe go16blue is the nephew of Todd Shultz.
November 28th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
I negged for the title. I'm generally opposed to all titles that end in "..." when it could just as easily have some actual information as opposed to just a cliffhanger. Like if this one ended with "a potential target."
No problem with Charles Woodson's nephew, obviously, and the post generally is fine.

I have no issue with you and WolvinLA's critique of the OP's title; it can and should be better. He probably hasn't posted very much, and a drive-by negging without any explanation doesn't clue him in to how he could improve his posts.

Kids tape looks awesome, Could be another Stribling esque sleeper
November 28th, 2012 at 1:29 PM ^
Northwestern and Umass want him, so we can add him to the brain trust. He and Thomas look like they could both play either safety spot.

Courtney Averys brother Tre'Von looks solid, QB / CB for 2015 from Grand Blanc
November 28th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
Crawford looks like a future linebacker to me. I don't think he has the speed or change-of-direction skills to play in the secondary.
November 28th, 2012 at 6:44 PM ^
I can see him adding a tiny bit more height and 30 lbs. You can tell he's had alot of coaching on his hips and also getting low at change of direction time. Interesting.
November 28th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
The highlight reel looks pretty good - he seems to have his ability to basically be a wide receiver in the secondary, but he also made some good tackles and stopped what looked like potentially big plays, so a bit reminiscent of Kovacs, although he made some Ryan-type tackles in a few clips. My personal favorite is towards the middle of the video, where he brought someone down and they slid horizontally for a good five or six feet. There's some strength there, it seems.
November 28th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Magnus, gotta disagree with your diagnosis about Crawford. He plays in one of the toughest regions in the nation, and is showing plenty of speed to me in that video. Long and lean body type, but still built with some solid muscle at this point it seems like. Covers ground very smoothly and with ease.
November 28th, 2012 at 2:09 PM ^
When trying to change direction, he looks like Josh Furman...and that's not a good thing.
And considering he plays at a big-time school with lots of exposure but only has offers from UMass and Northwestern, I'm guessing there are plenty of college coaches out there who don't think he can play safety, either.
November 28th, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
Hey Magnus have you heard about anything with Joe Mathis? I know the kid seemed to want to commit to every school we visted, but I havent heard anything about him in months.
November 28th, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
I haven't heard anything in the last week or two, but he's generally considered to be off the radar for good reason. Some schools supposedly stopped recruiting him. Last I heard he was taking a bunch of random trips to Utah and Hawaii and Alabama, and you can't really get much more disparate than those three. I don't really think he's an option for Michigan anymore.

Why do you think Stribling who also plays for a heavily scouted team like Butler fell through the cracks?
November 28th, 2012 at 4:06 PM ^
I just think there were some guys who overshadowed him, who were a little more visible. But that was back in June when he got a big-time offer. Crawford's season is over or will be soon, so he's had his entire senior season to get offers, and he's still sitting on two.
November 28th, 2012 at 4:11 PM ^
I just re-read your Stribling scouting report. I forgot about all those other players. I guess it could be easy to be overlooked when you have that many teammates that will end up going to D1 schools for football.

Because all of these people who neg for titles and similar crap are getting annoying. Who gives a shit if every single person doesn't abide by your rules and format of posting on a message board.
It's just that --- a message board, a blog, not 9th grade English.
Besides, wouldn't it be more informative to create a post telling the orginal poster why his title sucks? Just downvoting and not explaining makes you look like a douche, and the person is just as likely to repeat the "mistake."
November 28th, 2012 at 3:03 PM ^
November 28th, 2012 at 3:34 PM ^
On one hand you are right. It can be annoying when everyone complains about titles and similar stuff. On the other hand, if people stop policing the board in that manner then it will end up being like every other low class, uninformative, crappy site on the internet.
The policing is the lesser of the two evils.
November 28th, 2012 at 4:50 PM ^
Interesting, we are having an informal contest of who can come up with the worst thread title of all time. ZoneLeft believes the title "Wolverines" is the current leader while BiSB thinks the title "Sports" would be the victor. OMG chimed in with "Stuf" but my vote goes to another short, sweet one: "News."
November 28th, 2012 at 6:49 PM ^
How about just "Title". Or maybe "Title goes here".

I think he should get an offer solely due to Charles Woodson being the absolute man..this dude has given so much to the university in both athletics and philanthropy I support hooking his nephew up who is also pretty good at football..just saying
November 28th, 2012 at 3:31 PM ^
You can't run a football program by giving out scholarships to all the nephews of your former players. Hell, we're not even offering Stan/Braylon Edwards's son/brother who has several BCS offers.

November 28th, 2012 at 4:09 PM ^
He is close to the program regardless. In May they had the Griese Hutchinson Woodson Champions for Childrens' Hearts Weekend. I think he even has a wing of the Mott Childrens Hospital named after him.
November 28th, 2012 at 3:47 PM ^
If the Michigan tradition is that important to the Woodson family, I'd imagine tuition payments would not be that big of a problem. I agree that when we're taking depth guys, legacy guys are an excellent place to look, but when we're short on space in a class you have to go for the talent, not the blood ties. Which is not to imply Crawford lacks the talent, but more as a general rule.

Love his tape. He has a very aggressive streak in him and never quits on a play. He shows this both on defense and also when he is carrying the ball or blocking. This is a natural aggression that makes good players great. He doesnt have the athleticism of Charles...but for a strong safety prospect, he is very very solid. Give him an offer Brady.
safeties who wear number 7 for Aquinas...i have a natural affinity for those brave few
