Chargers Epic Collapse Means…

Submitted by TheCube on January 14th, 2023 at 11:43 PM

Brandon Staley gets fired on the tarmac.

This guy played all his starters in a meaningless game. Gets his top WR Mike Williams injured in the game. Despite that, goes up 27-0 and blows the game against Trevor Lawrence, who threw an NFL record 4 picks in the 1st half!!!!, and the Jags.

This means Sean Payton is likely taking the Chargers’ job and Denver might back up the brinks truck for Harbaugh.

He hasn't but it was being talked about during the season that he was basically coaching for his job. Detroit can go 9-8 and have it feel like a terrific year to build on. The Chargers feel their window is now-now and anything short of a deep run in the playoff would get him fired for an offensive guy.

The NFL guys get some college moves wrong but guys like Schefter get their info from The NFL. They're media arms of The League. If they're insinuating something is going to happen, bet that it's being shared by the people making the decision.

Not to say echo chambers don't exist, just that this isn't a new rumor with Staley. I'd bet that he's fired, at best brought back on the hottest seat imaginable.

If fired, it absolutely will move some pieces as a lot of coaches will want what they have in place. If I'm Payton, I'm going there before I go to Denver. If that happens, Denver is now desperate and wild shit happens when a proud NFL franchise gets desperate.

Honestly, I think the Op missed the headliner

Per MGO common law the title of this thread must be:

OSU Alum Joey Bosa's Poor Display of Sportsmanship Helps Lead to Epic Jaguar Comeback

can you please fix this mods?

While you are right about Jerry being a meddling asshole (still, it is his business, after all), he wasn't born on third base.  First base with a good jump on stealing second, maybe, but Jerry has hustled his whole adult life.  You can certainly argue that his ethics need some scrutiny, but show me a billionaire where that isn't the case.

Anyway, this whole post (except for the Crybaby Bosa posts - HaHaHaHaHa) is playing on our collective fear of losing Harbaugh just when he seems to have figured it out.  Of course, Jimmy wants to strike when the iron's hot and that entails a) hiring an agent, and b) maximizing leverage.  But, while it's been shrouded in some vagueness for purposes of said leverage, everything Jim has said himself seems to point at how much he loves Michigan and wants to stay.

So, the question to me boils down to what level of sincerity is Harbaugh bringing into his (albeit limited) statements to the public?  I choose to believe that Jim Harbaugh is, at his core, a genuine and sincere person.  When has he ever consciously lied to the Michigan fan base, like a Bobby Petrino, Lane Kiffen, or even Nick Saban has when they were jumping ship?  Why construct scenarios that put him in a position to be someone he has never demonstrated himself to be?

Jim or not, that collapse could absolutely cause his firing and it will set in motion a run on coaching moves. Once Payton decides/is moved, other teams are going to get trigger happy. If Dallas loses it's going to cause some outright mayhem.

It means what coulda shoulda for the Lions, they smacked up the Jags pretty good when they played them at home. I think they would have matched up well against the Niners. Oh well, back to more mock drafts...

Bosa basically cost them the game at the end getting an unsportsmanlike penalty which allowed the Jags to go for 2 from the 1 which was the winning margin in the end. Although it was another horrendous missed call by the idiotic NFL refs that sent Bosa into his tirade.Funny that the ref on the telecast backed up the no call only to have Tony Dungy tell him he was wrong.

LOL…but radio hosts in LA still unintentionally call them San Diego all the time.  They are not LA and are only renters.  Raiders fans are still the more passionate fan base, but the Rams are the team the kids love (and older adults). Several polls show that of LA fans, only 10-15% identify as Chargers…the other 90% are split between Rams and Raiders (which is close to 50/50 now).  You just don’t see Chargers gear (maybe Orange County is different).  Hopefully Spanos sells and the team moves back to San Diego.

By the way, how about the job Brian is doing as QB coach for SF?  He has a bright future as an OC and eventually as an HC.  Can we say possible future UM coach?

I don't think LAC moving on from Staley demonstrably changes the NFL for Harbaugh.  The Broncos don't have much of a future with declining Wilson and no great draft capital for a couple of seasons at least, and the Chargers (from what I've gathered) have the type of meddling/cheap owner that wouldn't jive with Harbaugh.

No idea why the OP is getting negged other than people here just don’t like to hear bad news.

I had the exact same thought and it is certainly a strong possibility that is how the coaching dominoes could fall at this point.

According to Mapquest, it's 130 miles from Coronado to SoFi Stadium and from Coronado to El Segundo, where the Chargers are going to build their new training facility. You can probably get lot more use out of a beach home in Coronado while you work in LA than while you work in Ann Arbor.

I also thought about that, I think Staley may get another year, but if they don't win a playoff game next year, then he would be out, and that's a pretty good situation, given their top-end talent.
