Excellent coach. Loves UM, especially academics, culture, and history. Cares about student athletes and their families. Understands NIL in context of all of it. Great ambassador for our students, university, and sport. Has energy and desire for head coaching, program development, and teaching the game. He's already here, and still working in the program. It would be awesome to give him a chance for the opportunity.

When I saw the forum post I was hoping this would be a commentary on Phil's interview with Sam Webb this morning on WTKA.

He and John B are as good a persons as you will find. Great mentors to young men. Stand up guys who will never embarrass the school off the court and are universally respected. Sam was blown away by Phil's love of these kids and perspective and still wanting to help the kids now and in the future, even after he has likely been canned by the Warde, via Juwan.

I would love to see Phil in a support role to our next coach but don't think that is likely. Thanks Juwan and Phil for your efforts. Sad it didn't work out. Sincere best wishes to where life takes you.

The team has basically no players. Anyone coaching next season will either have portal miracles or be vilified.  Michigan has to start with someone who can recruit while the team loses.  Martelli doesn't seem to be that guy.

Who was in charge of the program and set the foundation for this season while Juwan recovered from life-saving heart surgery? Phil Martelli. Phil seems like a great guy, but he instilled the "defense is optional" philosophy and we never recovered from it.

The roster wasn't going to make a good basketball team this year, but the total lack of accountability on the defensive end falls back to Phil's lap. Defense and defensive rebounding were an absolute disaster from game one.

I can only hope there is an actual candidate and there have been lots of back channel discussions going on.  Most good candidates are still in the tournament and changes will not be announced until after the tournament is over out of respect to them, their players, and the current school.

If the AD has not identified a candidate and made advances he should be fired for incompetence.  Really, they should have identified viable candidates before making a coaching change.  You can't fire someone then start looking.

If you all haven’t figured Warde out yet, you soon will. The best coach will not be hired. Someone that fits within his alliances will.
