Casey Thompson likely out on Saturday

Submitted by The Geek on November 9th, 2022 at 9:38 AM

According to local news reports, Husker QB Casey Thompson is listed as questionable vs. the good guys this weekend. He has nerve damage in his elbow which hinders his ability to grip the football.

If Thompson is unavailable, Nebraska will start either Chubba Purdy or Logan Smothers, who combined to complete a whopping 11 passes against the Golden Gophers in Nebraska’s 20-13 loss.

This is going to be a slaughter. Triple digit run D on one side, no QB on the other.

I think Michigan might shake off the 'slow first half' pattern this week. UConn Pt Deux

I hope Tariq gets NIL up the wazoo because I can't think of Nebraska or Iowa without turning this on ... hopefully NE finds a groove that brings them back to their glory days. I don't see a path, but I didn't see most of the life-changers of the last five years either. TikTok is one of those things.

NFT worth investing in for the foreseeable future! Certainly not Cornhusker CFB futures.

Didn't we have a QB in 2012 who had nerve damage in his elbow that hindered his ability to grip the football against Nebraska?

Losing that game because of that injury I would argue cost us an opportunity to play in the Big Ten championship game.

Remember how that game started?  Denard led them right down the field on the opening drive and we got a touchdown.  The previous season, Denard tore through Nebraska’s defense at the big house both running and passing in a blowout win.  He was just continuing where he left off.

Now up 7-0, he’s injured and Bellomy has to come in.  Merry early Christmas, Nebraska.

That sucks for the young man. It sounds a little like the issue Denard faced, and that really tanked his career. Hopefully the medical people are able to fix this and it isn’t a permanent thing.

EDIT: Like the poster above me just said. . .

Tough break - but they aren't going to stop us on D, even if they had their offense going decently.

I just want a rout that allows our backups to take the field late in the 3rd. Get ready for Illinois, which has a good D and excellent RB.

The best I'm hoping from JJ is hitting a long bomb off of PA Pass. He had Anthony so wide open - that kind of hit on a bomb would at least make Illinois and Ohio respect the deep pass. Hopefully, Roman is back as he has been a big threat at times (Iowa last year, etc.).

Perchance, might Scott Frost still have some remaining eligibility?

If so, perhaps he could suit up and play QB for the Huskers.  I'd enjoy that matchup - and, it might add meaning to being "outhit".

I miss Scott Frost...

I'm still expecting this to be something akin to 21-13 Michigan at the half, and then 56-16 by the end.

I do hope we see McCarthy start connecting on a couple of deep balls this weekend. Those are throws he's going to need to complete in 2.5 weeks. And in fairness to him, those are balls his receivers are going to need to catch.

this is going to be such a bloodbath.
I'm afraid Michigan is going to come out of this looking like the bad guys.
is there a way to politely score 70 points?
