Bruce Feldman Reports Harbaugh Extension coming until 2026

Title says it all! Figuring out small details I guess. Angelique and Baumgardner have chimed in with similar “confirmed reports”. These are the people who don’t throw out junk!

THIS SUCKS!! 5 year deal? Awful. Only way this works is if he gets great OC and DC guys. Better get Moorhead and Mason/Muschamp/Strong type guy.

Harbaugh did a great job at Stanford.  He hasn’t done a great job at Michigan.  It’s not like we haven’t given him a chance.  Six years is a lot longer than most major-university coaches would get if they never beat their rival, never win their division, and lose in embarrassing fashion at least once per season.

I thought this would be the decision in the end, and honestly I'm just numb to this football program at this point.

I'll support Harbaugh as long as he's here but major changes need to be made to this program.

Despite the bad season, this team still probably has the 2nd most talented roster in the B10 outside of OSU, and recruits 2nd best in the B10 every year. The tools are there for the right coordinators.

My dream scenario if Harbaugh stays:

Joe Moorhead CO OC/QB

Josh Gattis CO OC/WR

Mike Hart RB/FB

Sherrone Moore TE

Ed Warriner OL

Jay Harbaugh Special Teams/ More involved inorganizing recruiting

Bring in a DC that can make an impact like Greg Mattison did when he joined Hoke's staff. Maybe keep Zordich, otherwise let the new DC bring in his own guys and get our current defense in schemes that make sense, recruit, develop, and scheme a defense that works in the B10.

To me - UM football is just what it is these days.  Something to catch in passing but nothing to get excited about.

Fact: UM football (as an organization) is 10+ years behind OSU.

Whether you back Harbaugh or not, he is not changing the landscape in the next 5 years. Sure, maybe he ‘figures it out’ some things and moves the needle closer.  But .... the OSU machine will keep humming along.

What we can ‘hope for’ is the old Harbaugh comes back, and we get top (and I mean top) assistants to build the infrastructure we need to set up UM football (as an organization) for a massive run like OSU.

This will be remembered as a great day for Michigan Football. I am very glad that we are not taking another ride on the coaching carousel.

The current paradigm in college football must be broken. The man to do that is Jim Harbaugh.  He has the creativity and willingness to change which can make that happen. He has also proven his ability to do this throughout his career.

He also has a proven ability to put together a strong coaching staff. I am excited to see the changes that he will make this year.

Go Blue!

You are not looking hard enough if you cannot find one positive thing to say about Harbaugh and his tenure. However, at least you expressed your opinion with facts and without mocking those with a seriously rendered opposing opinion, so I appreciate that.

Look, if people want another coach, that is fine. I will not disparage that opinion. The fact that those who hold the opposite opinion are met with such vitriol is really unfortunate.

Oh Hell No.

In what universe has Jim Harbaugh, the $8 million dollar public university football coach, performed his job at the level to deserve a five year contract extension?

C’mon, he’s averaging nine wins per year! (and the vast majority of those wins are against unranked teams and/or teams with losing records. And his record absolutely stinks in bowl games and is historically bad against our #1 rival)

But look, he recruits better than all but one B1G team! (and yet isn’t it strange that he can’t  coach up all of these great recruits to the level to even once reach the division championship game in our own conference? And why are so many of our highly touted recruits transferring? What are they saying on their way out the door, and why isn’t this being scrutinized?)

I’ve been around long enough to know this is going to end very badly. The media sharks are circling, a lot of very best talent on the team has transferred, and prospective top recruits are steering clear of our football program (in sharp contrast to our b-ball program). This is a program on life support...unthinkable for this Old Boomer alumni who rode decades of success, and who remembers quite clearly when WE were the dominant team in the Big Ten.

Question: is Michigan football so far gone that the best we can do now is to cling to a washed up coach who was once considered great?

This reminds me of a joke.

After a Beer Festival in London, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer. Corona's president sits down and says, "Señor, I would like the world's best beer, a Corona." The bartender takes a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him. Then Budweiser's president says, "I'd like the best beer in the world, give me 'The King Of Beers', a Budweiser." The bartender gives him one. Coors' president says, "I'd like the best beer in the world, the only one made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors." He gets it. The guy from Guinness sits down and says, "Give me a Coke." The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask, "Why aren't you drinking a Guinness?" and the Guinness president replies, "Well if you guys aren't drinking beer, I won’t either.”

I mean, if the Athletic Department doesn’t care about results on the field, why should the fans?  I’ll still pull for Michigan to win every game they play, but the days of expecting anything positive to come of this program are over.
