Bring out your dead - cleansing NEGBANG

Submitted by fergusg on January 5th, 2024 at 9:12 AM

All -

Reading the game thread in real time last week its clear there are some amongst us who (must) regret their real-time comments.  This neg-bang is to provide redemption for those fans who wish to cleanse themselves ahead of the Championship Game.  You know who you are.  No judgement, just redemption (and hopefully a championship).

GO BLUE.  Neg hard and just win

On 4th and 2 in Michigan’s game tying drive, my mom mentioned “oh it’s night time over there now!” I think I snapped at her a bit.

Yeah, I got snippy with my fiancee because we missed the first quarter while we drove to a nearby hotel. For the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter she went off snorkeling, which was fine, she wanted to see the turtles. But then in the fourth quarter, she went to the grill and while she waited for her food watched the game from there as Wilson scored the game-tying TD. When she got back to the cabana, she said Michigan does better when goes to the grill. So she went back to the grill and watched Corum score a TD. She returned to the cabana, thinking the game is over, and I said "No, you have to finish them! This is Bama and Nick Saban!" She got back to the grill just in time, thanks to the Burton injury and the two timeouts.

Game threads are cesspools!  We're either the greatest team on Earth, or the worst.  Everyone shows some doubt in games like that - myself included.  But there are a handful of people that are just awful.  The comments these people make are beyond anything that should be said in the heat of the moment.  These are the people that cannot take a minute to settle down, take a deep breath, or otherwise calm themselves.  Probably 5 or 6 of them, and the people that frequent the game threads know who they are.

I think it was MGoUser Bluewings that was calling people out right after the game.  Funny thing was that he also made some comments that were call-out worthy!  LOL - we ALL did at some point during the BPONE-y part of that Rose Bowl...

(I'll self-neg to get it started...)

I don't know how to search my post history, but I made a few comments in the game thread.  I THINK (emphasis on THINK) the worst one was simply me saying something like "This is just so sad to watch." in the first quarter, likely after the bama TD when we were down 7-0.

EDIT: found out how to search comments and i am proud of myself!

The game could have gone either way. Time and again we watched this team rise above the mistakes and miscues, not to mention the fact that they were playing Alabama. It would have killed lesser men.

I understand being disappointed, but I have generally had to stop reading the game thread at some point.

It's probably my fault the game was as close as it was.  I did not watch the OSU game or the B1G title game, but instead listened to the games on the Varsity Network.

For the Alabama game I broke down and watched it.  We probably would have beat Alabama by 21 if I had stuck to the plan and just listened to the game.

Negbang away, but watching from the sidelines live:

Washington was absolutely robbed by the officials in 2002 in AA. Edwards did NOT have possession. That was an incomplete pass and not a fumble recovered by M. And Lloyd, whom I respect greatly, shouldn't have gone into their locker room after the game. Poor judgment, coach.

Oh, wait. Wrong thread???

I said that if Harbaugh leaves I want Sherrone to be head coach so he will relinquish play calling duties because I was growing tired of bashing our heads against the wall and continuing to use Donovan incorrectly. I still kind of stand by it.

Michigan beat PSU in spite of the offense’s poor showing. The OSU gameplan was fine. The Bama game showed we had spent a lot of time creating new plays with a great scripted drive, and the gadget plays were well conceived but poorly executed. No fault there. I just think a more creative offensive coach could get more out of the talent Michigan brings in. And I hope after we move on from Harbaugh we have a more exciting offense to watch

We tried a more exciting offense once, but Rich Rod fell on his face.  Besides, you don't think averaging ~37 ppg is exciting?

BTW, the all-run all the time offense against PSU was a stroke of brilliance.  Those guys were tearing through Henderson and Barnhart like a cat through a mouse.  A strip sack was on its way.  And the outs and slants that JJ could throw quickly were going to get picked off at some point, for 6 the other way.  Boo all that noise...  PSU had no semblance of offense, Iowa-ing them to do death was the way to go.

I'm proud to have actually watched the entire game, but I wasn't planning on it. I was scheduled to work and didn't ask off (I DID ask off this Monday, thankfully). But then I got sick Sunday and had to call out anyway. I totally understand the people who cannot watch games. My grandpa was a big Yankees fan, and he would record their games on VCR and then look up the score afterwards. If they won, he'd go back and watch the game later. I relate to that man more and more as I age.

But damnit, this team just has me hooked!

My brother and I were texting across the Atlantic in the second half about all of the New Year's Days growing up spent watching the sun set behind the San Gabriel mountains with that sinking feeling of losing yet another Rose Bowl.  We could both hear Keith Jackson speaking in our heads...

I said pregame discussion with buddy we are gonna get boat raced! He had claimed all week and all day ours to lose and after Morgan had one go through his hands without touching it said looks like we are gonna find a way to lose.

My redemption was jumping out of chair and running to the TV yelling Blake MFing THE GREAT CORUM on the OT score!

Then claimed that Mildo (my clever nickname) was going to have to make a play or two to get into the endzone and that didn't seem likely

Its ok to be negative and positive. IMO excessively positive people are more annoying than basic negative people. The positive people only make threads calling out negative people when they were wrong but never admit when they were right.

Let's just hope JJ plays another clean game minus the heart attack first throw

Sooo…

I have to preface my petition for absolution with the following:

  • I became a Michigan fan at the age of 12 in 1970.
  • I had three older brothers who had, by that time, helped me to assimilate a broad and deep collection of curses.
  • When I watch Michigan games, my vocabulary reverts back to my 12 year old lizard brain.
  • The comments in question were made just after M gave up the first touchdown of the game.
  • In that light, my comments, while heartfelt and predictable, were also breathtakingly sexist.

With no further preamble here is my offending post:

“FFS - there is no fan base as soft as this - sack up bitches.”
