This is the worst possible news for the Bearcats...undefeated dream season, chance to play for a national championship as a mid-major and now it'll be a non-stop stream of "is our coach going to ND" for the next few months...

Will be very interesting go forward.  Obviously CFB is now in the wild wild west v NFL.  Why not hire Saban at $25M a year if you have the right alum who has money to burn.  Nothing matters anymore - you just need 1 billionaire.   T Boone Pickens is laughing in his grave.  Not sure why Mr. Nike at Oregon doesnt pay $20M a year to anyone he wants now.

Going to be funny to see the NFL coaching scale now that college coaches make more than NFL coaches.

Economic theory is very interesting now.

Higher inflation is predicted.  Long term contracts are mostly for show.  The finance guys are looking at 10 year contracts like they are three year contracts from a risk perspective (there is always a buy out at the end if things don't work out and it will be less than most think in terms of real dollars.).

Apparently the finance guys at staee aren't too smart as they have to pay Tucker the full amount of the remaining contract as it is all guaranteed, however, his buyout is only $2.5 million and decreases each year.

So if he sucks, he gets the full $95 million, but if he is great, his buyout is chump change and he easily moves on.  Excellent lose-lose situation they have up there in east landfill.

Spartans will screw things up!

wow some major, major moves happening right now...

Lots of talk of Venables leaving Clemson for OU as well.

Some guesses:

Fickell probably leaves for ND if offered.

Freeman goes to Cincy..doubt he goes to OSU if its just to be a DC...

The MSU move set a new pay scale and a lot of schools are reupping people to make sure they don't get their coaches poached.

Honestly surprised Kelly would leave ND, but Cash is King I guess

In some important ways, LSU is easier job. ND has issues with recruiting due to their academic restrictions, and their independence is a double-edged sword when it comes to the Playoff. This year they're unlikely to make it because the schedule was weak, they didn't have a conference championship, and happened to schedule and lose to a direct competitor. If the expanded playoff reserves byes for conference champions, they're likely to have an even more material disadvantage relative to teams in a conference. Recruiting, and winning at least enough to keep the pressure off, may end up being easier at LSU than ND. At least, when combined with the money and change of scenery. Enough to Kelly, obviously, that it's worth moving.

Be funny to see who ND is able to entice.  Miserable fan base (steady state as bad as we get during periods of extended BPONE), and I don't think they are going to pay the kind of money that the Kellys/Tuckers/etc. are going to bank this year.  Time to pop some popcorn and enjoy the show!!

I have run across numerous LSU alumni/supporters in my travels, and overall they seem to be a good lot. Decent men who always bought me a drink for talking football with them and Les Miles / Michigan past trivia. Just decent folk. This move surprises me. When I brought up the rumors of Les Miles being less than upright in his relationship with the wives of his fellow coaches at M, they were deeply dismissive. Louisiana money is in the Bible belt, after all, and as a rule they wanted to believe Les was a good guy. I just can't see Kelly working out for them. The big money behind the machine doesn't want a coach who can't at least keep up the appearances of not being compromised. Maybe the leopard will change his spots, I guess....

There are no longer any destination HC jobs in college football. Yes, good for Kelly for taking the $$ but now bad for ND being in shambles, no tears there, but they have to replace the HC, assistants and lose recruits, good for Michigan.
