Brett McMurphy Top 25, Blue at 6
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Wow. Surprised by McMurphy putting UM at #6. McMurphy has always been impartial towards Michigan.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Pitt won big at GTU. WMU won at Pitt. That is good for our SoS even though UW is crashing and burning.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
Which UW
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
Both?
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
He should have WMU ranked. Their only loss is to his #6 Michigan and they gave Pitt their only loss.
Not saying Western deserves to be ranked but neither does Pitt.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Not sure I agree with Michigan State ranked so low. It's setup for a "disrespekt" game.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
You think that's low? Where should they be?
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
Right around where UM is and UM at 6 is crazy, IMO.
Both should be around 10. I don't care who is slightly ahead or even the exact ranking but UM hasn't looked multiple spots better than MSU, IMO. One could safely argue the opposite is true.
I just have a bigger issue with UM at 6, to be fair.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
Srsly.
Like that Sparty dominance against Nebraska? Giving up 31 to a 1-3 Western Kentucky? They handled a broken Miami team that's only beaten Central Connecticut State FFS (after matching them for three quarters). But sure, Michigan has not looked multiple spots better than Sparty...
BPONE is real.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
MSU was extremely fortunate to beat Nebraska in East Lansing and then just gave up 550 yards to Western Kentucky yesterday (also in EL). Their ranking is appropriate.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
They can be #1 but they will still feel inferior and disrespected. No cure to inferiority complex. Whenever I check ESPN for scores I notice top events. MSU game wasn't on it. It is what it is for them.
I hope we show up there and smack them around. It is due after last year. Somehow I feel like rejuvenated Harbaugh is on a mission.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
I think State is ranked high considering how bad their defense is. Yesterday W Kentucky's QB had almost 500 yards on State's defense. That was his best game all year, just a bit better than he had even against UT Martin. W Kentucky also had 31 first downs yesterday, which is the most they've gotten all year:
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
He really hates OSU. It's awesome to watch.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
He's not really disrespecting them. They're 4-1. The top seven teams on his ballot are undefeated and the #8 team is the Oregon team that beat OSU.
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
Interesting. OSU obviously had a great day yesterday, as did Michigan. Amazing to see 3 teams from Big10 East in top 10 and 4 in top 13, plus Iowa from Big10 West in top 4. Quite a bit of respect for B10 there.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
There's still questions about Ohio Sts defense. So he might be dragging his feet to put them up higher just yet.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
They are his second highest ranked team with a loss (behind the Oregon team that beat them in Columbus). If they had beaten Oregon they'd probably be #3.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:29 PM ^
They're at #82 in defense, and that against a fairly weak schedule. Even Tulsa got 500 yards on them.
October 3rd, 2021 at 3:04 PM ^
good thing they didn't listen to you and benched stroud
October 4th, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
Actually, I think they are ranked #29 in defense after this weekend - at least I read that somewhere yesterday.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:30 PM ^
Feels like he put all 5-0 teams above the 1 loss teams which explains osu. PSU feels like they’re only ahead of UM based on inertia from early rankings. They have a shared opponent and UM performed better. And UM has a higher SoS.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:42 PM ^
All 5-0 teams but MSU. Disrespekt!
October 3rd, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
Based on results I guess it kinda makes sense. But it feels WAY too high. My feels say we should be just outside the top ten, maybe 13th or so. That’s just a feelings thing, can’t really justify it with data
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
Step out of the BPONE buddy. We have some nice seats on this M bandwagon.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
It’s not BPONE, and I am enjoying the ride. I’m on the positive bandwagon. I see some holes, like I’m sure most of us do and just don’t feel like we’re quite top 10 material, that’s all.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:56 PM ^
Glad you are onboard :)
Most of the teams can be swapped beyond Alabama and Georgia. That is the nature of the field this year. Key is which team improves to catch up to the top two. So, while it may feel like M needs to show more to be Top 10, I don't think there are many teams showing better play than Michigan let alone 7 more teams.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
I agree - this definitely seems too high. I doubt the other voters will have Michigan this high so they won't come in at 6th when the poll is released. Yes, I think a spot just outside the top 10, say ~13ish makes a lot more sense. I would feel comfortable if Michigan landed there. Ohio State should definitely be ranked ahead of them.
At the same time, there aren't a lot of teams that are justifying their existence in the top half of the polls - ND and Oklahoma have been bleh and Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M were products of SEC hype (happens every year!).
If Michigan pounds Nebraska, NW and State (speaking of overrated...), they'll definitely deserve that spot in the top 10. Iowa-Penn State this weekend is shaping up to be huge.
GO BLUE!! BEAT NEBRASKA!!
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
Just keep winning
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
Yessir! Let’s go! This Bigten season is shaping up to be a heckuva run.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:02 PM ^
Sure, why not. Looks good and seems to not reflect pre-season rankings. Arkansas needs to drop further down, but otherwise pretty good.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
B1G teams are going to beat up on each other and fall off. So will SEC teams. Beneficiary will be Oklahoma and Cincinnati.
As far as M, I can them anywhere from 6-10 but not below that.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Just noticed SDSt above ND. Ha ha ha. Made my day.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Although it makes me uncomfortable, we should absolutely be ranked higher than OSU. 6 or 7 seems about right.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
We aren't that good. We just beat a bad Wisconsin team and that is our best win. Our offense still isnt that good. Defense won us this game. We scored on alot because the Def gave us short fields. Glad we are 5-0 but we still need to change offensive coordinator after the season no matter what our record is. We our never going to compete for Big Ten ships and the playoffs with this offense.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:41 PM ^
Michigan just scored more points on Wisconsin at Camp Randall since 1990.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:44 PM ^
Most teams would be lucky to have our offense, and that is not hyperbole. Regardless of whether or not you think the offense is actually the number 6 offense in the country, you don't get there in advanced stats unless you're doing something right.
We just put up 38 offensive points against one of the best defenses in the country. Try to look at things objectively.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
Didnt you get the memo, its no longer hip to be a miserable UM fan. We are undefeated and havent trailed once all year. Support the team maybe?
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
I thought we were upset that Offense score FGs off of turnovers. If I remember correctly, 3 of 4 TDs came on 50 plus yard drives. I am not diminishing what Def did, but you are discrediting Offense.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:20 PM ^
I think 6 is too high for us, but then again we are better than Iowa and they're ranked ahead of us.
Also San Diego St hasn't beaten anyone notable, not even Utah is that good.
And Pitt ahead of ASU, who demolished #20 UCLA at the Rose Bowl? Their only loss is BYU (a good team) away and that game was close.
Pitt has beaten crappy teams and lost to Western.
SMU has pretty much played no one. TCU is average at best this year.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:22 PM ^
I’m not here advocating for Notre Dame but Auburn being ranked ahead of Notre Dame is a joke. NC State is ranked too high too for beating a bad Clemson team. My top 20 probably looks more like so:
1-Bama
2-Georgia
3-Iowa
4-Cincy
5-Penn State
6-Michigan 7-OU 8-Oregon 9-OhioSt 10-BYU 11-Arkansas 12-Kentucky 13-MichSt 14-Notre Dame 15-SDSU 16-Auburn 17-NC State 18-OklaSt 19-Coastal 20-SMU
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:27 PM ^
Also I’ve got Iowa beating Penn State at home so next week I’m guessing Penn State drops into that 8-12 slot with Oregon/OSU. Arkansas or Ole Miss will drop out of rankings after one or the other wins in week 6.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:44 PM ^
Do not forget how lucky ND was to be undefeated entering yesterday. They scraped by terrible FSU and Toledo teams.
October 3rd, 2021 at 3:11 PM ^
And Auburn has beaten who? And Notre Dame beat Wisconsin by more than UofM so? I guess it won’t matter after this week when Georgia beats the heck out of Auburn.
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:24 PM ^
Auburn won a night game at LSU and also took PSU down to the wire.
Even ND fans don't think they beat UW more impressively than we did. Come on man.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
I think it is:
1. Bama
2. Georgia
3. Cincinnati (not that I think they are the 3rd best team but if they win out I think they are in)
4. Who the hell knows. Everyone looks flawed. Maybe us? Maybe not.
5. Doesn't matter.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:18 PM ^
Oklahoma, B1G champion even with 1 loss might get ahead of Cincinnati. Cincinnati has one good win against ND, who may not be that good. Rest of the teams on Cincinnati's schedule do not look good.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:30 PM ^
Week 6 Coaches Poll has UM #8
B1G has 4 of the top 8, B1G East has 4 of the top 11!
How is Oregon ranked below OSU when they beat them on the road and they both have one loss?
Iowa #3
PSU #4
OSU #7
UM #8
MSU #11
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
OSU's name and score against Rutgers. Who knows. I doubt they actually think before they vote.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
Could people please be serious about Iowa and convey some independent thought? Iowa hasn't been a top 5 team since the Hayden Fry era, and they hardly are now.
